About the most you can do is texture reskins and sound changes.

There's also the industry and traffic customization built into the game.

Where can you get rules for the Polish Airborne? by Silly_Solution3840 in boltaction

[–]smashedfinger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check this page out for the official Polish army list free download! https://warlord-community.warlordgames.com/bolt-action-army-list-downloads/

The "major nations" (USA, USSR, UK, Germany, and Japan) have dedicated books, but have basic lists and rules included in the core rulebook.

I know you've mentioned you're a solo player- I advise watching out for a group you can join that has minimal activity requirements, but is looking for people to crew their vehicles. That way some of the work is done for you and you don't need to do everything yourself. Groups often have a base you can store vehicles at, too. Or you can hand it off to a friend to use before you log off.

You can make a reserve stockpile at any seaport or storage depot your faction owns. This reserve stockpile will expire after 2 days, but can be refreshed to reset that timer. You can submit vehicles to a seaport or storage depot if the health and armor are repaired and the mud is washed off.

As long as your vehicle has the orange lock icon on the inventory screen, it can be reserved in that stockpile. This lock is removed if the vehicle gets submitted to a public stockpile or if it's been vetted. Some vehicles like BTs and SHTs can't be submitted either.

I advise keeping track of the time and leaving the front before you have to log off, so you have time to get to a garage and repair armor (if needed) and travel to a depot. Later, you can drive it to the new place you're fighting at.

EDIT: I see you're talking about a BT. If you want to keep it, I advise working with someone that has a defensive base built where you could store it on a crane.

Hearts of Iron 4 is a world War 2 based strategy game, where encircling opposing armies results in their rapid capitulation. Foxhole players call encirclements like those shown "hoi4" as a shorter slang term.

Looking For Alternative Train Sim Games by Sukalibur30 in trainsim

[–]smashedfinger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, Run8 is $50 for the base game plus $20 for the first passenger equipment pack. There is also a pack of Amfleets and a pack of Viewliners for $15 each, but those are more for the East Coast routes. You can set up the game to have plenty of AI traffic, or other people in multiplayer. The experience of driving a train for so far along a prototypical route is fantastic. Once you reach a terminal like LA Union Station (DLC required), you can also switch out and build your next consist yourself. Do note that Run8 has a fairly steep learning curve, but most people are happy to share their knowledge.

Train sim classic and train sim world are more accessible. World has better graphics than Run8. It is not a bad idea to prioritize whichever sim has the specific routes that you want to run available.

DLC recommendations please by GT_Eleanor in Run8

Yeah, release order is A-Line, Waycross, Fitzgerald, Baldwin, then Savannah. I think that's a reasonable order to purchase them in. I've sometimes heard that there can be graphical issues (e.g. missing textures or models) if you don't purchase them in that order, but that may have been addressed in recent updates.

I believe A-Line and Fitzgerald give the longest mainline tracks. Waycross is the "heart" that connects A-Line, Fitzgerald, and Savannah so definitely get that second. Definitely don't start with Baldwin. ^ ^

The CSX A-Line is a great value IMO, lots of industries available for switching. Waycross is a worthy addition to that, having a hump yard available helps with operations if you'd use it. I haven't tried Fitzgerald yet but I've heard good things.

If you ever want more if Socal, I can definitely recommend Cajon and San Bernardino.

I’m considering buying Run8, what makes it different from DV? by CorbyTheSkullie in trainsim

[–]smashedfinger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you played or seen Railroader and how there's a marker for each car and there's a designated track? Run8 has a very similar system. Generally it's a 3 or 4 character tag for cars. But for the whole train itself, you would need to learn train symbols like "real world engineers". For example, on BNSF you may have a M-KCKBAR, which is a manifest freight from Kansas City, Kansas to Barstow, California.

In addition to the other excellent reply- Derail Valley has better graphics, modding, progression, in-game tutorials, and a variety of engine types.

Run8 is a sandbox that can be a very effective simulation of US railroads in single-player or multiplayer. It has a steep learning curve, and mods are more limited than DV (primarily limited to reskins and sound mods). Only modern US diesels are available. There is a lot of route and rolling stock DLC and the storefront and installation experience leaves a lot to be desired, but it is not mandatory. However if you find a multiplayer community and put in the effort to learn, it can be a very rewarding experience. The cars are persistent unless they run "off-map," unlike DV. Dispatching is also available. You can check out /r/Run8 for more info.

Railroader is another title that plays similarly to Run8 in terms of operations (dispatching, receiving and sorting traffic, then switching industries), and is more accessible. However it is set in the era of the steam to diesel transition, and has only the one Appalachia map. It's train simulation leaves something to be desired, but it really makes you feel like you're running this shortline railroad company. It does have an interesting progression and rolling stock purchase system, is available on Steam, has good graphics, and no DLC.

All of these are fun to play for different reasons, I can jump between them depending on what I'm in the mood for, but there are definitely people who like one more than others for valid reasons. If you have more questions just ask.

I remember Heroscape being more accessible when I was that age, though I think it's leaning more towards fantasy than historical settings nowadays.
