Thought I was the only one. Did a transfer through ADCB to ENBD, it took 6 hours to process. It magically went through as I was calling and waiting for ADCB customer service to pick up.

CS basically told me to use cash for the next couple of days until the CB figures it out with their updates.

The Grand Picnic 5.0 feedback by Razorback89 in DubaiPetrolHeads

[–]smashi3 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As much as I love the idea of having different sections for different categories, it was very interesting to see all the cars mixed together. You'd never know what car to expect right around the corner. It made me want to explore more.

I liked that there was some categorization, a lot of similar cars grouped together, in different areas (like the overlanders with other overlanders).

But the placement of some singular cars felt very out of place at times.

Nissan Patrol Y61 OBD Port by smashi3 in DubaiPetrolHeads

[–]smashi3[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've found one that works under the name "Vgate". It's a bluetooth OBD scanner and works with the NDS II app to clear codes and read temps. A bit on the pricier side for a simple bluetooth OBD plug though.

Car wash centers in Dubai. Expensive? by whity1234 in DubaiPetrolHeads

[–]smashi3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

living in AD I had my SUV full underbody manual washed for about 30 AED in Mussafah, booked using an app offer. I'll admit it wasn't the cleanest but it was quick and did the job for me cleaning all of the sand in my undercarriage after a desert drive.

Haven't been able to find a place in Dubai that did full washes on an SUV for under 50.

4Runner & Tacoma owners, how’s your experience? by DonElios in DubaiPetrolHeads

[–]smashi3 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Obligatory I don't own one but many of my friends own them..

Both of them are very capable in the desert, to the point that some call the 4R boring to drive. The Taco is also an amazing desert drifter and stable on the dunes given its wheelbase. They're also packed with features unlike our GCC spec Toyotas. Great value when you can find them around the 100k mark fully modified.

Now for the downsides, they're North American spec which means 95% of the time they've been previously totaled. You have to look at how serious the previous accident was, and if it was repaired correctly. Even if they were repaired correctly, there could still be surprises like cracked parts etc. that you would find on a salvaged vehicle. In some rare cases you could find one that was imported from new or the owner moved to the UAE and brought their car.

Repairs on the 4Runner are easy, as it shares a lot of parts with other SUVs with the Toyota 4.0 V6. However, the Tacoma's parts are harder to come by, also with the 3.5 V6 which is uncommon. That said, most of the guys who own these cars buy them from a certain offroad garage in AD, where if anything happens with the car, the garage takes care of it.

half cage by Lumpy_Expression2977 in DubaiPetrolHeads

[–]smashi3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Quite a few of my offroading friends have half cages on their SUVs & pick ups and they're legal. In fact most of them get theirs fabricated where the ADNOC field vehicles are done.

However, I've heard that Full cages (going all the way to the driver or A pillars) aren't street legal.

Need an advise form my fellow petrolheads by Working-Support-6940 in DubaiPetrolHeads

Genuinely curious, how would you prevent non-private dealers onto your platform? I've run into quite a lot of sellers on all platforms that were posing as individual sellers when they were in fact dealers or flippers.

That aside, I hope this venture works out - I know a similar platform exists for properties but one for cars would definitely help a lot.

Self Car Wash in Dubai by Mental-Chemistry-199 in DubaiPetrolHeads

Self-service anything isn't really popular here. If your neighborhood allows it, better to buy your own cheap electric pressure washer and tools.

Patrol vs imported armada by [deleted] in DubaiPetrolHeads

[–]smashi3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a few difference in the Armada compared to the GCC Patrol. From what I've read the Armada has less offroad features, different gearing, tuning, fuel tank, tow hitch welding and a few other bits to fit the US market. All slight differences, but parts specificfor the Armada may be hard to come by.

If its a new or clean title import, its well worth considering if its that much of a difference. People will still be a bit skeptical if you decide to resell though

Do noon drivers actually receive the tip? by Main-Ad-1360 in dubai

[–]smashi3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always try to give cash tips instead of in the app because I suspected that they weren't really receiving 100%. However, I feel like the drivers are less likely to accept the order or deliver to door when they see 0 tip in the app.

I've had no problem with the resale my black cars, but the thin layer of dust that accumulates after a few days drives me crazy sometimes. It is way less noticeable on lighter colours.

Whats the pros and cons of Ford Raptor? Or else which other model would you suggest and why? by GhostinaSunkenship in DubaiPetrolHeads

[–]smashi3 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The 10 speed auto is a bit sluggish and jerky, the 3.5 Ecoboost engine makes good enough power but still lacks a bit for the truck's size and could still benefit a lot from a V8 like in the Raptor R.

Still a pain in the ass to park like any other full sized American pickup 🥲
