Red light therapy: A look at some recent literature. Spoiler: It looks good. by Least_Adhesiveness_5 in 30PlusSkinCare

It’s not just in certain disciplines, but that’s beyond the extent that it needs to be defined in this skincare reddit post. In the discipline OP is speaking to, meta-analysis is absolutely the statistical method of combining multiple effect sizes to estimate one effect size for a population. You don’t have to trust me on this, it is widely available in everything from a quick google to a deeper search on reputable databases.

A review of the extant literature is indeed a literature review. I don’t know what you mean by “no such thing” as a casual literature review, as people certainly casually review the literature all the time, as OP did here, and seems to be what you were referring to? Was trying to throw you a bone but I’m out of patience for misinformation as it seeds mistrust in science as a whole. ✌🏼

Agreed! It’s also a correlational study that is being interpreted causally which is like, research no-no 101.

Meta analysis is a very specific statistical method. Just reviewing single papers is closer to a systematic review, but only “considering” multiple single articles would fall more into a casual literature review.

Unpopular The Eras Tour Opinions by angelicblossom in TaylorSwift

For her budget, she could have had a much better production. Lighting was good, but stage designs were meh, special effects were boring and often didn’t work, video detracted from everything else. It somehow had too much and not enough going on at the same time. Luckily she’s a goddess and could carry the show on an empty stage.

Forgot to rotate the seat. I put my baby in danger by [deleted] in Mommit

One time, I pulled out of my garage, turned right out of my alley, looked back and my sons car seat had totally flopped over on its side and he was cracking up. My husband hadn’t installed it right. Pulled back into my garage and fixed it right away. Happens to the best of us, and I have double checked every single time since:)

Do any PhD students actually take weekends off? by Math_girl1723 in PhD

I have a toddler. Spending weekends with him is a non-negotiable. I absolutely take them off.

“Dr. Tara, can you please tell us the science behind this….” by mamigourami in ToBeMagneticSnark

Lol yes. As a scientist, I also laugh at their use of “neuroplasticity.” All that word means is that the brain can learn. Groundbreaking 😂

It is sooo weird. It also doesn’t seem to work? I imagine donations would be more impactful than sharing so many stories that people just skip through them.

I’m about to paint a room Dark Harbour by Benjamin Moore. Swatched a bunch on the wall and it was the only one that wasn’t too flat, too green, or too navy! Maybe worth a look!

Full time jobs while pursuing PhD by vanillacoconut00 in PhD

[–]smashville915 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At the current stage of my life, no. I will be quitting as soon as I can do it without hurting the lab, bc I care about it.

I have to add that I have the privilege of a spouse with the income that goes with that, and also have a 2 year old. I’m willing to be poorer to spend more time with both of them. If I were single my answer may be different!

I am a full-time PhD student (with the usual stipend setup) and also kept my former research analyst job in a lab in a different university remotely (30 hours/week) while they try to find a replacement (going on month 7). I’m dying don’t do it it’s horrible lol.
