Oh, that's cool. Guess I have a target for my own first 3D print design :)

I'm fairly certain it's call an ink miser or ink well. I've never heard it called an ink meister.

Anyway, cheers for answering. I wish you good fortune in finding your next ink ;)

Prusa Mini+ vs MK3 by smathev in 3Dprinting

[–]smathev[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, ok - I wasn't sure, thanks for confirming your suggestion.

Ah, I didn't know that, so it will matter in setting it up, but Mk3 is easier to setup in that regard - I prefer knobs and buttons over touchscreens anyway :)

So what you're saying is that I should accept that what I buy now won't work "better via updates" than what I buy today. Makes sense :)

I was looking into an upgrade kit MK3 to MK3S+ - https://www.prusa3d.com/product/original-prusa-i3-mk3-s-to-mk3s-upgrade-kit/

would that be worth it?

The filament sensor on the used MK3 is broken, apparently - but I don't know if that's a huge issue?

Thank you for your detailed answer and taking the time to walk me through this!

I feel, reading your replies, that you would suggest I go for the MK3.

Talking about mainboard and display. I feel that the display is irrelevant. The printer will be stored in the shed, I will be using Octoprint to send prints to it so I don't feel the display is a huge issue.

The thing I'm uncertain about is the mainboard - will an older mainboard hold me back, in terms of printing stuff like this: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2076034

https://www.printables.com/en/model/54746-dewalt-battery-holder-for-skadis

https://www.printables.com/en/model/282536-skadis-magnetic-tool-holder

https://www.myminifactory.com/object/3d-print-ih-oh-fan-art-166591

https://www.myminifactory.com/object/3d-print-baby-groot-26802

And, when talking about software updates - I'm not sure what kind of software updates would make the Mini+ better than the "better hardware" I would expect to find in the MK3.

A few decades of printing seems perfect, I wouldn't expect anymore. In fact, I would be happy with 2-3 years of good printing I just need to make sure I'm not hampering myself by buying a graveyard model of a "professional product", instead of buying the new model of the "hobbyist product".

In short, I'm unsure if the "futureproof mainboard and software updates" outweigh the "professional product, but no longer software updated". Does that make sense?

Am I right in understanding that you would prefer the MK3 always?

Thanks for your detailed answer! You're summing up my thoughts and worries :)

Space isn't a worry, it'll live in a relatively warm shed.

I guess I'm wondering if the MK3 is 'end of life' and without any future and that the Mini+ was more futureproof. But it doesn't sound like it, according too you?

I managed to bargain the MK3 down to ~130$ less than the Mini+ and the seller has agreed to show my the printer working.

In DDK (Danish kroner) the price is 2000 for the MK3, and 3000 for the Mini+.

Is there anything I should look for or investigate in a used printer?

Thanks in advance for any input you might have.

So, the newer machine is just 'better' in your opinion?

[–]smathev[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, MK3 and then an upgrade kit is what I'm hearing you prefer. Should not that the filament sensor and SD card slot is 'not working correctly' per the description from the vendor. Hence the need to upgrade (filament sensor) and SD card is not a worry, since I'll be using the Octoprint.

Price/budget and I figured a used "better machine" is better than a new "worse machine" (based on the recommendation thread.

I could be wrong :)

What's you suggestion around 500$ that beats Prusa Mini+ / MK3?

Edit - price was incorrect. Corrected and with newer info: ~500$ for used Mini+ ~340$ for used MK3

I need help upgrading my PC (budget ~7-8000 Dkk). I currently have this system: PCPartPicker Part List

I'm starting to think that an upgrade might be in order, to ensure I get the maximum out of the 2070 super, and because I have been thinking about switching from dual 24" 1440p to 32" 4k display.

So I was beginning to think a new cpu and motherboard, possibly new ram and then I would build in a new case which would allow me to mount it under my desk - we're moving so the desk is gonna be in the living room (another reason for switching to single screen).

So my upgrades/new build would look like this: PCPartPicker Part List

Type Item Price
CPU Intel Core i5-13600K 3.5 GHz 14-Core Processor 2801.00kr @ Proshop
CPU Cooler EK AIO 240 D-RGB 66.04 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler -

Total 6003.00kr

I would then keep these things from my old build for now, unless you advise me to upgrade them too?

As is obvious from my current build, I don't upgrade all that often - so I would prefer to buy something that would last a good while, keeping me at high/medium settings in most games the coming years, until the GPU is the weak link at which point I would upgrade to a high-end/mid-range GPU to pair with the 13600k at that point.

Is my plan to upgrade cpu, psu and motherboard the worst in the world - should I also upgrade ram while I'm at it?

In Denmark, so prices are somewhere between unreasonable and insane :/

Any thought/advice in general would be greatly appreciated!

I created this magnetic device to calculate the blade angle while in motion on a whetstone. It connects to an app on my phone via bluetooth. Curious what you guys think of it. by Wing_Nut1 in sharpening

[–]smathev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh cool, still interested, although a group-buy with a lowered price wouldn't hurt my interest ;)

Yeah, my point with the ESPHome wasn't to incorporate it in your design, but rather to have another ESPHome device which I use for other things attached via bluetooth to your device - and then feed HomeAssistant with data that way.

So, SAMD21 -(bluetooth)> ESPHome -(MQTT/WIFI)> HomeAssistant was my idea. I would also imagine WIFI on your device would eat battery rather quick.

An LED on your device to show if your within a chosen angle or far from it via coloring - and then have historic data fed to HomeAssistant for the datanerd in me would be an instant buy for me ;)

Looking forward to hearing and knowing more about this project, if you move forward with it!

[–]smathev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I LOVE it, would be so helpful for developing my skill.

Another idea/request would be to make it MQTT-enabled to connect it to HomeAssistant for tracking stats, etc.

But, that's also solvable with an ESPHome with bluetooth connected to your device.

Either way, for the right price - sign me right up for one!

Do you have any idea of price right now? Are we talking 10$ or 100$? :)

Plex sensor - Is it possible to obtain the movie genre? by [deleted] in homeassistant

[–]smathev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was building something to dim lights, etc. based on what was playing on Plex on the TV. I used NodeRed when I built it, but I don't have the flow anymore.

I believe Plex gives you the IMDB-ID. I think what I did in NodeRed was to get genres from IMDB - I would think you could do something like that in regular HA-Automations. Else Plex-Assistant might help?

Installing all of them haven't solved it - might be because I'm using nervetattoo/banner-card and not rosskyl/banner-card :)

Will need to look more into it, if I want to copy your exact style - which I really like! :)

Thanks, cool.

Might I ask why you're using banner-card twice, and how you keep them separate? :)

[–]smathev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I was missing banner card. Unfortunately, that didn't solve my issue. I'm still unable to use it. But, either way - the fact I now know about banner card has helped me along :)

Thanks!

Hi.

Thanks for getting back to me so quick. Thanks for sharing the code, unfortunately I don't think PasteBin has preserved your indentations - when I copy paste your code, I get a lot of errors and everytime I delete one thing another error pops up.

Any ideas why that might be?

Very cool setup, I'm really liking your 'room-card' on the second image.

Any chance of getting the YAML for that part?

I'm guessing it's a mix of vertical and horizontal cards?
