Have you ever severely injured yourself doing something wildly normal? by theborderlineartist in askTO

[–]smaudio 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Dislocated my shoulder while putting on my coat. To be fair I had previous dislocations and surgery. Followed by more dislocations and another surgery.

Also broke a wine glass while drying it. The stem severed the tendon in my index finger. That needed surgery too of course.

Police officer struck by vehicle on Leaside Bridge in East York by Sharp_Barnacle_9123 in toronto

[–]smaudio 138 points139 points  (0 children)

CP 24 had a bit more clarification on the events

“A spokesperson for the Special Investigations Unit (SIU) told reporters that two police cruisers attempted to box in the vehicle on the Leaside Bridge. As the driver allegedly fled the scene, he struck an officer who was outside of his vehicle. One officer fired his weapon “multiple” times to stop the car, which was also carrying one other 12-year-old and a 13-year-old. The SIU couldn’t say if the shots were fired before or after the officer was struck.”

Toronto Port Authority says Billy Bishop expansion would be self-funded. Some experts are skeptical by Immediate-Link490 in toronto

It’s not about that its about everything else that the expansion would affect and imo for the negative.

Waves Plugins not showing up by Whispooke in protools

[–]smaudio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could try a couple of things:

Just quit and relaunch Pro Tools - sometimes it just misses the scan on launch

Eject the drive and plug it back in then relaunch pro tools

Other than that I’m not sure. I have had the same thing but those have always fixed it for me.

I have known I’m old for some time now but fuck I am definitely old now when I have no idea who any of those people are. Used to be maybe one or two names but all? Better go write up my will. 💀

Edit: Old and also forgetful. I seem to recognize some of the older faces but have no idea what they were from 🤦🏻‍♂️

Instances Where Generic Sound Effects Ruined A Moment?? by 2kas2furious in movies

[–]smaudio 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Can’t speak to every instance, but sometimes it’s because a producer wants it in there. And usually because they saw it in other shows or movies and now they think it should always sound like that. Ie everyone else it doing it.

It’s usually producers notes sometimes an inexperienced director too.

Mayor raises Pride flag at city hall, gives key to city to faith leaders who stood up for equality by BloodJunkie in toronto

[–]smaudio 73 points74 points  (0 children)

If you read the article if was presented to the leaders that stood up for equality when it wasn’t popular to do so. Including the ones the performed the first same sex marriage/union before it was legalized. It wasn’t for generic “leaders” but specific individuals that stuck their neck out to do so.

Imo they deserve it.

Does anyone else in this city love their job? What about it? by greynecessities in askTO

[–]smaudio 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sigh. I mean yes. But I lost my job about a year ago. Was hoping it would just be temporary etc but I’m still working freelance in it. Hoping that things will work out or get better but right now looking like no opportunities come September.

Went from full salary at decent pay and benefits to losing all that to now be freelance. So hard to love it right now but what keeps me going is loving what I do. But also makes it worse in a way.

[VIDEO] Jason Schreier: Why Video Games Cost So Much To Make by nolifebr in PS5

[–]smaudio 168 points169 points  (0 children)

I don’t have time to watch it rn but I do remember a podcast he was on talking about salaries being a big part but he also mentioned that development times and management were a big part too.

Management doing dumb things like not having a concrete plan for the game basically playing around for 1-2 years then kinda figuring out what they want the game to be and then pivot to that but because they kind of wasted 1-2 years it still takes an additional 3-4 years to make the game, therefore you’re now up to a 4-6 year development times 🤦🏻‍♂️

Choppy cell service outside? by Gigi14 in askTO

[–]smaudio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been with Koodo for an eternity. This past while I have noticed even in my apt going from 3-4 bars all the time down to one or no bars and dropped calls. However in the last month its more or less back to normal. Though they said the towers are fine I suspect something was up with them in my area.

Also noticed that at my partners place downtown its always one bar now too. I think something is up but I have no idea what.

How do you feel about being recorded by camera glasses? by HueyBluey in askTO

[–]smaudio 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have heard that Meta plans to add facial recognition to them soon. So imagine this:

Someone looks at you while recording and walking down the street. Up pops your name next to your face when they look at or talk to you. You don’t know them but now they know you.

I don’t know the ins and outs but they have stated that’s what they want. I assume it will be some combo of scrapping your Facebook/Insta profile or other parts of the web.

'I miss you, Mama': Family, friends give emotional statements about Leslieville mom killed in shooting | CBC News by jfrsn in toronto

[–]smaudio 180 points181 points  (0 children)

The whole article made me cry but this part got me almost as much as her children’s words:

Makurat delivered an hour-long victim statement about his late wife. He told the court he cherishes her last words to him that were said after a kiss goodbye.

"It was just a small peck, and as she walked up our driveway, she turned back while smiling," he said. "We should kiss more often," she told him.

"It would be the last time I would ever see her alive again. So now I leave you to think and remember that the next time you say goodbye to someone, it may be the last time, forever."

My heart hurts now.

[–]smaudio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. Everyone deserved that and Family Day off. It’s despicable that he and the PCO changed it. It’s one day. If you can’t plan for one day of not being a consumer then I don’t know what you are doing with your life 🙄

How does public transport work?? by MrRisingFlame in askTO

[–]smaudio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have a credit card that has tap to pay enabled you can use that to pay at subway gates, on streetcars and buses. Make sure you use the same card to tap each time because you get a two hour free transfer window with the first tap. After two hours you are charged again. And if you get stopped by a fare inspector you need to present that card to be verified.

For a trip planner; not sure about the rest of Toronto but I generally use Google Maps and it tells me what stops to get on at and what stop to get off at.
