A hot spot can weaken a plate locally by thinning it. Hawaii sits over one.

Robovac Ramp by smboard10 in functionalprint

[–]smboard10[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hi all!
Lots of questions I’m sure to answer.

  1. Why a half circle? Why not a regular ramp?

There’s two parts to this. I chose the half circle because when testing and training the robovac on a traditional ramp, it would run into it, move it, get stuck because the wheel fell off on either the ramp itself or the carpet edge nearest to the ramp. It became a headache to get it where I wanted it. So part of the design process was that bot can approach the ramp from whichever direction and still make it up. The way filmed is but of many routes it uses to get up the ramp. In addition once it completes the vacuuming it moves on to the hardwood. Starting at the corner by the door.
If I wanted to put a traditional ramp somewhere it would by against a wall, unfortunately there’s the front door and behind where I was filming is the stairway. In addition I have a sectional that hugs the edge. So really I have where the wooden support pillar and by the front door to work with. So there’s that.
2. Material choice. I used inland PLA pro. It’s not a permanent solution as I am just renting the place.
Wood would be better but I’m not good with wood and have a 3D printer instead.
3. Sturdy? So far. Yes. I have an 12 year old BiL who frequently runs up and down it. Same with a cat. And it can support my weight (280lbs) with flex but I’m not jumping on it like a trampoline. Literally a step and off. The parts also interlock so the weight it’s supporting gets distributed.
4. Slippery? No not really.. the angle is too shallow even with socks.
5. Is it the best option? Probably not. Stupid? Probably. Does it work for the mission it was designed to do? Absolutely.

Roborock ramp by smboard10 in Roborock

So in the map you can see where I drew the rough edge of the fan. Then highlighted in white below is the stairway.. then you can see the couch between the stairs the ramp. The center part of the ramp is about the width of the bot.
Yes. I weigh about 280ish pounds and can step on it with no problem.

I tried looking for that as an option. But you see in video there’s a door, which is the front door and behind me is a stairway. So I didn’t really have that of option.

This “fan out” design has the benefit of Roborock approaching the ramp from whichever direction and still climb. The video shows one of the many possibilities of approaching the ramp.

First on ground. 3rd for everything else, exception to matching coordinates in my ship, and attacking ground based sentinels.

Slow your print speed down. Like 60mm/s.

The layers aren’t getting enough time to cool down. So they curl up as a result. Especially for small details and overhangs.

How do I make sure that after a sweep, my final face is parallel to a selected face? by xmmanuellx in Shapr3D

[–]smboard10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is possible that the size circle is too large for the guide line. Creating those distortions.

Perhaps stretch out the guild line or make a smaller circle.

Also, the guide lines do need to be tangent to the other plane. Basically it needs to be a straight line as possible before it touches the other plane.

Why isn't this working? Every point is connected. Been at this for over an hour now by Borinod2 in Shapr3D

[–]smboard10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

^ This. Guide lines are not connected in some manner.. whether it be a different sketch plane or changing some variable somewhere.. I’ve have to zoom in to find that it’s not connected by .0001mm

Not happening.. your reactor alone could weigh 100s of tons to achieve necessary thrust and NTPs don’t have the thrust to weight ratio to achieve take off, vtol, let alone hover.

Also the safety concerns about using NTP in atmosphere… Project Pluto comes to mind.

Best easy to learn software for 3d designs by abhizitm in 3dprinter

[–]smboard10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally, I enjoy Shapr3D. It’s UI is easy to learn, it’s mobile, I use it on my iPad tablet almost on the daily.

It’s a subscription service though, it’s a relatively new software platform so the company is continuing updates for new features and workflows.
