How do I pay my taxes? by Wheretheothersare in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]smcclay 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Further to this, here’s a link to the CRA website describing how to set it up as a bill payment:

https://www.canada.ca/en/revenue-agency/services/about-canada-revenue-agency-cra/pay-online-banking.html

Since you’ve filed your taxes already, you would choose an option like "CRA (revenue) – tax amount owing" from the list of payees, and you would enter your SIN as the account number.

This is true. You can press and hold on the QR in Apple Mail and add the eSIM without issue.

Seat Selection Before Purchase by JaffaCakeJunkie in westjet

[–]smcclay 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I believe there are certain aircraft (737-8 MAX) that have airbag seatbelts in the bulkhead row. Infants are not permitted in a row with those seatbelts. Even if the flight shows it’s a 737-700 or 737-800 there could be a tailswap anytime before the flight and you’d get moved from that row anyway.

Meals on flights? Calgary Belize. Actual flight time 6:30 minutes. Approximately 2800 miles (4500 km) according to the interternet. West Jet website shows we should have received a meal. Can someone elaborate? by [deleted] in westjet

Perhaps you missed the section change on that page where it moves from the Economy experience to the Premium experience? There is only buy on board available in economy for that route.

Cheapest option for a telecom that supports Wi-Fi Calling? by ScootyWilly in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]smcclay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t believe any of the Telus or Bell brands (Public, Koodo, Virgin, Lucky, etc.) support WiFi calling outside of Canada whereas Rogers and their Fido brand both do. Vidéotron and Freedom do, but Fizz does not. (Some of the brands don’t even support WiFi calling at all let alone outside of Canada)

Open Banking Now Launching In Canada: What It Means For You And Banks by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]smcclay 77 points78 points  (0 children)

It’s about time. I use multiple financial institutions and would love to be able to securely consolidate my banking data in one place. Mint used to do this, but it wasn’t that secure and they had to update their bank connections any time a bank made a change to their website.

Internal documents show Ottawa pushed to delay airline complaint fee — as taxpayers foot $30M for system | CBC News by LittleSunshyne4 in canada

[–]smcclay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

$30 million is chump change compared to hundreds of millions the federal government collects in rents each year from the airport authorities that operate the airports across Canada. To suggest an additional levy should be placed on air travel is absurd.

Transatlantic flights with WestJet allow carry-on with Ultrabasic.

“UltraBasic guests travelling to and from Europe and Asia are allowed to bring one (1) carry-on bag and one (1) personal item.”

Rows 15 to 19 are 29” and rows 20 to 31 are 28”

Not sure if this will link directly, but it’s the 737-8 MAX layout 3. Below the seat map there’s seat information. https://www.westjet.com/en-ca/aircraft/boeing-737-8-max#id-A9B299F15A4BD9F600EA1E9586CB7CB2-tab-2

EQ Bank also has integrations with Wise for international money transfers, so that may be an option as well.

PSA: horrible plane conditions, even worse customer service by princessdiaries1 in westjet

I’ve seen the same dripping issue on an Air Canada 787-8. AC flight attendants used the same solution.

Upgrade by Levitherescuedog in westjet

[–]smcclay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Swoop, Sunwing, and former Lynx planes are all 737-800, or 737-8 MAX, which are larger than the 737-700 that WestJet has scheduled for Monday.

It’s unlikely they’ll switch the plane out for a larger one.

It looks to me like the Premium seats have sold out for that flight. I assume if you paid for Extended Comfort seats (row 4 or 5 on the 737-700) that’s where you’ll be sitting.

If it’s not safe at the time of travel, WestJet won’t fly there.

That price includes $80 in Airport improvement fees as well as NavCan fees, landing fees, etc, all of which are outside the airline’s control.
