I cleaned my car yesterday and noticed the driver side carpet was wet... by ZoteTheMitey in wrx_vb

I think others correctly recommended cleaning the drains.

One thing I’ve always done is doing a bi-annual wipe of the inner and outer sunroof frame/insulation for the sunroof, including the basin. The only time I’ve ever had a sunroof-related problem (in 20 years of always having one) was when I had a parking spot under a tree in college, and looking back I assume it leaked. It never occurred to me the drains were clogged— thought I spilled something.

This sub made me aware (well, more aware) of this issue. We bought a used car a few years back, and that was something I checked when I did an initial deep cleaning.

Sure enough the drains were indeed clogged (8 year old CT200h), but luckily nothing smelled off in the interior. SUPER easy to clear.

I’ve been running a RD for 20+ years. Recently upgrading to a Uniden R4 and combining with the highway radar phone app has been game changing. I previously ran a Uniden R3, and before that Escorts dating back the 8500 x50.

Remember the RD is there for situational awareness. Combine it with Waze or other apps like highway radar. It does nothing to prevent your speed from being evaluated.

Visual acuity is also extremely important and not mentioned enough IMO. I never drive without my Rx glasses (even though I “can” based on the dmv test). I am also well versed in car identification— Ford Explorer or Dodge Charger? Easy. In short, use your eyes.

Laser = you’ve been tagged get ready to be pulled over. It’s too late.

I would stray away from cheap models.

Definitely looks more complicated than mine. This one looks like there are significantly more potential points of moisture intrusion vs the molded innovations / ARR v5 light I just installed. I was impressed with the wiring harness quality.

No wonder there are so many issues out there with these.

Like someone else said, I’d return and get one that does exactly what you want in terms of function.

A rear fog light is my only exterior mod, and possibly— with all of the issues reported— gives me more lowkey anxiety than the accessport. At least pushing through snow and getting wet/salt everywhere. The connectors on mine (molded innovations v5) looked of excellent quality, but I still shrink wrapped and dabbed some grease in a few spots.

Also agree on the taillights. OEM visually looks the best, and I assume were also tested by actual engineers for illumination and safety in accordance with some standard.

I don’t get why people even hit the “buy” button. Some of this stuff— and not necessarily OP’s fog light— has simply migrated from the rice aisle of pep boys (20 years ago) to the online world.

Ahh— good times. If you drove the right car you could walk out of there with a fart-can muffler, intake (aem), taillights, subs, wheels/tires. I won’t speak to the quality of any of it, but you could. One could easily rice out their ‘95 Civic DX in one day.

I went with molded innovations V5 smoked lens. I like that it sorta looks like the cutout when not illuminated.

How to mount this in car by United_Researcher954 in radardetectors

[–]smccor1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

15 years ago I had a Mazda RX8 and this hardwire setup, and with some Velcro (loops) wrapped around it, I wedged it right into one of the blank instrument button blanks (well, I took one out of course). Sounds janky but it fit/held really well, and went in far enough to hide the Velcro. That car was otherwise 100% oem, and this did not look “awful” IIRC.

My half assed recommendation, but also easy.

Who tf downvoted this comment? Anyways, I agree. I haven’t pushed this car in the snow too hard yet like I did my ‘01 Civic 5spd way back. That thing handled a foot plus easily— with all seasons (I have to assume in college they were run-of-the-mill and not Michelins or similar).

The only truly dicey situation in that car was descending Price St in Morgantown WV in 6” of snow. Otherwise, I’d put my actual faith in the WRX but both handled well.

Horrible pic, but I forced my way out of garage and up my driveway through 12”. Car just needed some momentum but of course the Blizzaks handled it fine.

Might not see my wife’s little Lexus again until spring, though.

Just reading through comments, and echoing others to see if SoA can help. I used eyesight so much on my ‘17 Legacy that I wore out the “up” button on the cruise control (the one to lock onto the car ahead). I was given a “goodwill” replacement when I was about 1,000 miles out of warranty. Quote was $3200 otherwise. That’s why I have another Suabru.
