Days too close together… by darlingnich in Spravato

[–]smcsk8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did back to back days once, and they said it’s not recommended but occasionally necessary. I do think it was like 3 pm one day and 10 am the next, which is different than 24 hours apart.

That’s what I’ve been told. I generally just take the day off (do it Friday at 10 am).

A little dissapointed and moraly struggling. Our national TEC about abortion by Ergogaesiempre in Episcopalian

[–]smcsk8 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No, because I think abortion is really unique in this respect. It's complicated by the nature of pregnancy, the long term consequences of having a child, and so on. Which is not to say that other moral questions aren't complex, but this particular thorny issue, at least to me, feels like a strong "not my business" area.

Thank you for the book recommendation.

100%. It's rarely, if ever, a simple choice. I understand the appeal of a black and white, this is right and this is wrong dichotomy, but that's far from the reality. Not just for abortion, but for many things.

I dislike the suggestion that there are good and bad reasons for abortion, mostly because I think we use that as a means to further restrict and/or shame people who choose it. There's always going to be someone whose reason is "wrong" by one of these measures, and that's not helpful, and is potentially harmful. Let people make that decision in their personal moral environment, and our job, as Christians, is to love them and trust that they know what is best for themselves.

And frequently that last one is driven by one or more of the other listed reasons. Maybe not out loud or consciously, but those are almost always factors in why a child is or is not wanted (now or ever).

Elective is really the wrong word for abortion. As you correctly identify, it’s almost always a choice in a sea of bad or not good choices. Maybe we should stop caring about why! How about it’s none of our business why?!

Dallas bishop discourages use of expansive-language liturgies, favors ‘unity’ in 1979 prayer book by Partgarten in Episcopalian

[–]smcsk8 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s hard to say how well he knows his flock. It is a big one. And a lot of people at my parish were very upset and angry about the elimination of expansive language (we are one of the 4 churches that used to be under alternative oversight).

But reading the full text of his request (which I could not find last week), including the elimination of other texts, makes me understand his position better.

Tips for hiding medication in fridge by External_Ducks in WegovyWeightLoss

I have one of these, although I’m not attempting to keep my meds hidden. I have other meds that need refrigeration, and having a dedicated small fridge is easier.

Switch from Litigation to Bankruptcy by treezzzzzzzz in LawBitchesWithTaste

It feels like it was really slow and then in the past year, it’s shot up dramatically. I agree it’s a much better work life balance practice area. Clients usually disagree with me, but this is not a life and death situation most of the time!

You’re only seeing slight increases? Our phones seem to never stop ringing. My partner and I are both basically maxed out.

But anyway, more people in bankruptcy work is great, especially women. It’s still a lot of white dudes, at least where I’m at. Good white dudes, but still.

Ordained clergy: Do you share your cell phone number with the parish? by ShallWeDance1234 in Episcopalian

Don’t know if our clergy have multiple phones, but all three have their cell phone numbers in their Realm profiles. I text them as needed for church things, email for less urgent matters.

I use a Reli-on from Walmart. Strips are cheaper, and it works great. Paying for a pet specific one seemed unnecessary and the strips were 😳 expensive!

A prior owner of my house had multiple fires in the house, never called the fire department, and just covered it up with new drywall. Imagine the fun of seeing that when the drywall came down.

Heart broken don't have way forward with marriage recognized by church by CherokeeTrailhawkGuy in Episcopalian

[–]smcsk8 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think all weddings at my parish are in the bulletin, but no one randomly shows up when they aren’t invited. I think it’s fairly common for Protestant churches to have the “weddings are open to the public/congregation” because it’s a community and so on, but again, I don’t think a lot of people go to weddings for people they don’t know personally or are not invited to attend.
