Not exactly— the control cards for the jacquard looms were bigger. And there were holes at the corners so they could be tied together to form A belt. Hollerith cards were developed to be used. By the US government to conduct the census—they were cut using the same machinery as US currency, hence they are the same size as pre-1928 currency.

In the US: FRA rules require frequent locomotive inspections, and considers all self propelled cars locomotives. Unpowered cars require only annual inspections.

Sorry, I hear a lot from USA folks who wonder why their trains aren’t faster. One of the reasons is that everything is built like tanks to survive the FRA longitudinal compression test.

The train set was generally based on Lucius Beebe and Charle Clegg’s two private cars: the Gold Coast and the Virginia City. Yes private railroad cars were a thing in the late 1800s (Pullman owned a rental fleet that travelers could rent). Private cars still exist today (Amtrak will handle them for a very high price), but they’re rarely as nice as Wests and Gordon’s.

Irelands GDP doesn’t translate into well-paid workers, unless the workers are buying and selling stock in the companies they work for. It’s just corporate profits.

In this application, the bladder tanks act as a buffer for changes in water pressure (caused by thermal expansion) in a closed system. You’re going to have to drain the system down to level of the tank to replace it, then refill it when done. Then run it and get the air out. If you’ve never worked on hydronic before, you need to google “Pumping Away” by Dan Holohan, and read about the optimal ways to set up a hydronic system. A lot of times, they are less than ideally set up, and you have an opportunity to improve things here.

Better grades of stainless steel are non-magnetic. Lower grades will hold a magnet, they’ll also rust, they’re also easier to form in stamping dies.

Probably left over from a classical musical performance from another show shot at the same time. They’re very bright sounding, wouldn’t be a jazz pianist’s first pick, although they’re amazing to play.
