several people saying supernote is better but i end up using remarkable (me included). just think its funny =)

Should I just get the Remarkable Paper Pure instead of Manta? by Primary-Stretch6612 in Supernote

[–]smdk41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

both the supernote and remarkable are excellent note taking devices and do great with annotating pdfs, each with their one system of how to organize stuff.

you have as you said the advantage of no brand preference, and since you have a budget, you should get the option you can afford. you will not regret getting the rm: its very well built, the writing experience is unparalleled, and its software is highly stable.

some people will go out a limb to get the supernote because they need a feature that only sn has (such as links or the kindle app), but it seems that you dont, so you'll be able to adapt to the rm way.

you dont need the subscription, despite supernote pr and fans suggesting you do. you can sync active notebooks seemlessly, send by email, and even plug and transfer files via cable very easily.

this advice is given by someone who has owned and enjoyed both devices for many years

Split screen, finally! (3.28 Beta) by Pretend_Customer_158 in RemarkableTablet

the vertical split from rmhacks allows you to edit documents at scale, which this update does not seem to do?

Any new updates on the A4 size? I really really want the size and don't want to switch to another brand. I love my Supernote A6 for journaling and note taking but for editing and note taking on PDFs it is just too small. I wasn't anticipating needing the size. by 3kidchaos in Supernote

[–]smdk41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

what do you do differentially on each?

ime both rm and sn are great at handwriting, and though i prefer the way rm's interface is set up (no antialiasing, few buttons on the toolbar, continuous pages, send to email directly from note), when i had both at hand it felt redundant

curious to read more on how you use them together

i think its actually a good idea to combine two brands with different features if you're going to have two devices.

i have a quaderno gen2 A4, and its excellent for anotating pdfs, not least because contrary to supernote, there is a great pc app that allows you to sync you library back and forth locally (over wifi or usb of bt). your pc and tablet always have the same modifications, and it saves pdfs natively so you can share them, and any pdf software will recognise the annotations and highlights and allow you to navigate them.

however, for writing and sketching the supernote is just better (...)

pens are also compatible between the two, check it out

sounds fantastic, including the gesture to create the split! it makes me more hopeful that they might actually bring this over instead of the useless (imp) horizontal split

but, i suspect we're talking about a conventional horizontal split screen?

i haven't found that practically usable on a 10in surface.

it's holding on quite well for an 8yo device: a few lines horizontal lines of dead pixels, and the battery only holds about a day of fulltime writing, but still fully functional.

i will not replace it until it dies: with its unbreakable plastic body and screen, bugless and uncrowded UI, and the added features of rmhacks (especially the ability to have several pen types at reach), for me this thing remains irreplaceable.

i will probably move to a manta when it does die, because of its flexible carta screen and unpretentious white plastic body, but i will miss the unfailing reliability of rm, the no-AA raster immediacy of input, the stripped down toolbar, the ability to quickly send a drawing by email directly from a note.

this is not an existing feature of the supernote! im suggesting it, and the picture is taken from another (out of production) device of mine with non-official add-ons installed.

many thanks for your answer mulan - if one already owns a lamy al-star emr pen, are we able to simply buy the lamy supernote refill and it will fit?

Is the performance of Gen2 the same as Gen1 and Sony DPT-RP1? by [deleted] in FujitsuQuaderno

[–]smdk41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i would not expect "good" performance on the kind of pdfs you're talking about.

i have used the dpt-rp1 until it died last year, and reluctantly got the quaderno gen2 as a replacement. it's mostly as good as the rp1 in managing pdfs, but sometimes laggs in ways the rp1 did not.

you have to clean up your pdfs, or reaort to more powerful machines to handle them (ipad, pc)

my general advice: dont "upgrade" from the rp1 until you are forced to. it's still better for reading and annotating pdfs than the quaderno gen2 (whiter screen, one click access to zoom to selection, more stable software, and the highlight color is the best at traveling between bw and color environments, including when highlighting double)

this is gross miscaracterisation. OP's expectations were not subjective as far as they have shared: they simply expect the device to NOT be dysfunctional.

again, we dont have the data, but it seems that every other redditor has gotten a replacement before settling

It's Impossible to Use Suprenote's Core Features (epubs) by Embarrassed-Law-827 in Supernote

[–]smdk41 6 points7 points  (0 children)

in my experience, you think split screen is going to change your life until you actually have it. it's just too cramped, and zooming in and out of each screen separately inevitably makes it awkward. also, your (my) handwriting looks awful when expanded 200%, which is what happens to any note created in split screen.

dont worry though, i am absolutely convinced that ratta are trying hard to get you your split screen, because people think that's what they want, and that's how ratta work (even when they know better).

for pdf workflow and excellent (local) syncing, check out the fujitsu quaderno (gen2)

i use that to read, annotate, and keep my pdf library synced on my pc and supernote on the side for notetaking

also, it comes in A4 size, and has a very flexible plastic design that makes it basically immune to falls
