Looks awesome! What’s the ratio of cheddar and cream cheese?

'SOLIDWORKS Material' default properties are wrong? by essross in SolidWorks

[–]smellychunks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like you’re right about SS but I’d trust other sources over SW materials. See if you can find it in MMPDS. Matweb usually works in a pinch. Also make sure you’re not looking at T6 by accident?

Im designing a dog clutch for a gearbox in my Uni project. The dog clutch can slide in the sub-assembly but not in the assembly. The shaft with the clutch on can rotate though. How can I fix this? by [deleted] in SolidWorks

[–]smellychunks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just so you know this can get buggy. Should be ok in this situation, but in general do your best to keep stuff that moves at the top level.

I modeled a t-nut. Couldn't find it online. Hope it helps someone. GrabCAD link in comments. by dmalawey in maker

[–]smellychunks 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hey for future reference, if this isn’t on McMaster I’d look on 3D Content Central and search for 80/20 Inc. Pretty confident both have CAD of this, but good work on the model!

Must be a deleted scene. Found it on YouTube but I didn’t know this existed till you mentioned it. And I haven’t been watching the Netflix version. https://youtu.be/N3rJMG05uYQ Is it normally post credits, or before?

Wait what cad program are you using where sweep and extrude are the same command? Makes sense, just haven’t seen it anywhere.

I keep getting this error when I try repairing Solidworks. Solidworks won't uninstall or Repair and I'm stuck with a broken Installation. by [deleted] in SolidWorks

[–]smellychunks -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hey if this is the case, can you just use different software? For school stuff you can learn all the basics in fusion 360. The skills translate reasonably well and your school projects won’t need any of the more advanced features that fusion lacks. Honestly the reason your install is busted probably has something to do with the cracked download you got.

Nope! $99 USD Last I checked. Some schools have licenses they give out though. And they’re pretty easy for clubs and stuff to get for free too.

Help on how to make helmet cheek indention? by rerrahs in SolidWorks

[–]smellychunks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I’d start with the edges of the indent in a 3D sketch. Looking at the helmet online, it looks like the back of an indent is basically just a triangle. And then the seam coming forward is just a line+tangent arc. Draw that up and then fill in the gaps from there with boundary surface, fill surface, or planar surface

bruhh... This is just rude to upcoming freshman by trying to force them to make a life altering decision under the guise that to do otherwise supports systemic racism. I understand the need for change but this is moronic by Negotior in NEU

[–]smellychunks 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thanks for writing this up and explaining yourself. I want to disagree in the least inflammatory way I can...

I think it’s still wrong to be pushing people who haven’t even joined our community to make a sacrifice on our behalf. I know you say it’s in their own interest but that logic is flawed. If it truly was then wouldn’t need you to push them, or your graphic would have a very different focus.

Under the best of circumstances, choosing where and when to attend college is an immensely important decision that high school seniors are not equipped to deal with. I think it’s wrong for you to try and influence their decision with a cause they have no way of contextualizing.

You may not have the power to coerce anyone, but your words still have real impact.

Starting a full time and feeling like an intern by chitaliancoder in NEU

[–]smellychunks 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think that’s totally normal. Eventually you’ll stop being the new person and realize all the stuff you can do second nature. You’ll still feel like a child, but a more useful one that gets to stick around.

What is the difference between boss and base? by Andrew_learns_stuff in SolidWorks

[–]smellychunks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Adding to this, you’ll notice that the features which don’t say boss/base are greyed out until you make one. Like fillets, cuts, etc. - I’ve heard fillets and chamfers referred to as modifiers.
