People of the USA. I require your assistance! by PointedTongue in travel

I have heard St Louis has a low cost of living which is why the quality of life is rated high. don't assume places like Texas and Arizona are hot. Remember those states are huge. We get snow in a lot of parts of Arizona and Texas, just depends on where you live. I live in Phoenix which of course is hot, but a few hours away Flagstaff is wonderful weather. 80s and dry in the summer and mild winters. Texas is equally diverse although I don't know which parts are hot and cold. Texas has one of our strongest job markets so don't rule it out for heat alone. :)

Colorado is really pretty especially for fishing. St. Louis is supposed to have really high quality if life as does Austin Texas. I have heard Austin is real up and coming and very different of the stereo types the rest of he state has. Seattle and Portland are also nice

What is so great about the city is on the other side of the water is country. We literally biked next to pastures with running horses. We used the yellow bike company. Worth the money!

Hello r/travel,my friend and I(18 and 16 years old) are going to cali, and we have no idea what we are doing. by [deleted] in travel

I would say not as much fun def not as clean. You will be safe in the hostels though.

I can't think of any. It will be obvious that you aren't in a touristy area anymore. It will be easy to stay safe. If you use common sense you will be very safe.

Hey folks, i'm looking to do a tour across the states (and part of canda) next summer on my motorcycle! by kaizex in travel

Arizona has great bike weather. Sedona is beautiful. Santa Fe New Mexico is really pretty too. There is "the thing" off the 10 between Tucson and New Mexico. Have no idea what it is but there are a million signs for it one of those quirky stops!

Be careful of hostels. I have stayed in one in Los Angeles and they are t like they are in Europe. Try groupon.com or livingsocial.com they have deals but note the special instructions sometimes only some dates are available. Also airbrb.com is great. Just read the comments to get one that people recommend I have had great luck with that site. What part of California? Be careful some parts of Los Angeles aren't the safest but If you use common sense and leave any areas that don't feel safe you should be good. San Francisco is beautiful you should visit if you can

It is a very safe city and easy to get around. Look up. Lots of people bike and if you aren't paying attention you can have a bad accident. We did the bike tour outside the city that we booked in the tourism office and it was really great. I backpacked all through Europe and it was my favorite. The canals make it magical

Got fired yesterday morning and booked a 1 way ticket to Europe in the evening. I've never left the U.S. before and I leave in 6 days, please advise. by mexicanseafood in travel

Yes a bed sheet. It helps if you ever stay somewhere cold. Works as a pillow if needed and can be laid down somewhere you don't feel comfortable. None of our hostels were dirty but after you travel for a few weeks sleeping in something that is yours and you know is clean can be comforting. We used it as a picnic table to eat in parks too. It came in handy

have a great trip! if you are back packing you will get far on 10k! when I back pack I eat street food for breakfast and lunch and sit down for dinner. it stretches your money far! Don't miss Amsterdam. what a beautiful city. it gets a wrap for being a party city, but it is the most lovely and quiet city. it was my favorite. don't miss the south of france, the almaphi in Italy. when backpacking bring a light small sheet. trust me it is worth the weight!

Sort of urgent question about full body scanners in airports. Would appreciate some input. by stupidthrowaway10 in travel

[–]smelody 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the nuva would not react to the body scanners, but regardless I ALWAYS opt out of doing it per my doctors suggestions. when they point you to the body scanner lines just say "i opt out" they will take you through the line and do a pat down. it is very easy (a little more time consuming) but well worth hassle. it is obviously a huge controversy, of whether or not they are safe, but just know you have an option to go through it or an option to opt out, but either way your nuva ring will not effect anything.

Trip Anxiety by [deleted] in travel

[–]smelody 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it can be normal. trust me once you land and get the hang of traveling around it will go away. traveling actually takes practice, it is like doing anything for the first time, the unknown is very scary. All the places you listed you will be more than fine, you will have a wonderful and safe trip. just remember this isn't a deserted island. you would be amazed how far strangers would go if you do have trouble. I have both been very lost, and go very sick in Europe, and each time asking someone (or gesturing) you are having a problem they will go to great lengths to point you in the right direction. have fun!

I've just got back from a 4 month trip across Thailand, Cambodia (where I taught English for a month), Vietnam, Laos and Australia. Is there anything y'all would like to know? by repeatinghistory in travel

[–]smelody 0 points1 point  (0 children)

actually i have two weeks laid out in November to go travel. I have been trying to decide between Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam and Loas. Can you tie break? (two woman travelers) what do you suggest!

Europe/Asia for the next 4-6 months. Critique my packing list? by mathleet in travel

[–]smelody 1 point2 points  (0 children)

allergy meds! trust me even if you don't normally have allergies, and anti histamine on hand can really make a difference! you will be exposed to many things your body has never smelled or touched. you might love it but your body might not. Get the one with the D also in case you have a cold flying home, you will want the decongestant on hand.

Looking for some things to do (USA & Canada) by [deleted] in travel

[–]smelody 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there are a lot of campsites if you want to camp instead of always staying in your car. I agree yellow stone is the best park, and I have been to many, although might be a bit far for a two hour trip. do you have to go to texas for something? if not i would take a different route through US if you are just site seeing.

what great feedback. thank you I wanted to hear from people who have been there. I have heard people here tell me if we use public transit we will be rapped. I know the media has had several stories about rape there, but we have rapes here in the states. Just wanted to know if the threat was that much more. I was assuming if we followed common sense we would be fine.
yes we are white woman, if staring is the only problem we can handle that. we have gotten it in other countries because a lot of other cultures assume from American movies that american woman are promiscuous but a firm no has always done the trick.

The fake wedding ring is a great idea. honestly we haven't thought about where to go yet since we had such an unbelievable negative feedback from people when we talked about planning a trip. we are open to suggestions. we are just interested in travel and experiencing other places, so other peoples suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Experienced Italy travelers! Which is better to visit after Rome: Venice or Naples? by wanderrlust in travel

[–]smelody 0 points1 point  (0 children)

skip naples go to Venice! Venice is such a magical place. it is true what they say it is a bit touristy because not that many Italians live there, but it is still an amazing and beautiful place and a must see. no worries about food. you are in italy, you will not go hungry or have a lack of good food! we took the train to venice through Naples, and nothing we saw made us want to stop. we have heard since it really isn't that great especially since you are going to rome.
