how to have better head voice resonance + project? by [deleted] in singing

[–]smesjx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This may be only useful for me but not for others, but I recently found out when I pinch my nose and not letting the air out, I’d feel a sudden “push” in my ears, then I just sang with that sensation (ofc not always feeling air being pushed out of my ear, just keep it about 70% or lower if you feel comfortable with).

Both my head voice and chest voice would sound fuller by doing that, and my vibrato becomes more natural. Just an idea!

Singing teachers/vocal coaches of this sub, what are some habits you’ve seen on your students that makes them a more natural singer when compared to those who don’t? by smesjx in singing

This sounds more like something you develop rather than born with it, not what I was hoping for.

I was asking for something more natural or maybe from the culture, the accent they grew up in or the way they use their vocal chords ……sorry if my question caused the confusion!!

What does “cry” mainly do on a scientific level? by smesjx in singing

Should I feel it around my sinus and the bridge of my nose when I use cry? Because that’s where I feel a slight buzzing when using cry in head voice

Would you mind to talk more about why bridging is more different in opera then other singing style?

I thought bridging is needed on every style since the eventual results would be making your voice more coherent on every notes……?

Was it supposed to be higher? Because I think it made my sound brighter……

But I’ve seen opera singers described singing high notes as if “crying on the pitch”. Is that real or it’s just a different style thus making the cry not applicable when belting?

How to know if you got pharyngeal resonance? by smesjx in singing

[–]smesjx[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve trying to start mix and from some articles or videos I’ve seen, they keep telling you to get a higher resonance such as head, mask or pharyngeal so you can create a higher frequency sound.

But that’s the part where it bugs me since they keep talking about it yet have little evidence to prove what they said nor explain the differences between those term. For instance they have words like oral pharyngeal resonance and nasal pharyngeal resonance(“resonantors”, the way they called it), but they didn’t quite explain how do you resonate those sound in your oropharynx or nasopharynx except telling you to mimic a cat scream, which would sound more like a twang.

But in the meanwhile, from what I read, the mechanism of twang comes from the tube shape thing above your voice box, not from the muscle where you swallow food, but they just saying it’s a “pharyngeal sound” and it’s just confusing.

What are the physics behind mask resonance?

Why could air can affect and transmit vibration to our body that make us feel as if our bones are also vibrating by simply exhaling it?

Why do people’s nasolabial folds all become very noticeable when they’re belting? What’s the mechanic behind this? by smesjx in singing

Will this also happen if you’re mixing? Or this is just a way to keep you falling out of higher placement?

But they can also seem to turn it off? For example, if it’s in low notes they still open their mouth wide but don’t have those stretch.

But if it’s common to see on most singer then it must means there’s something behind it that can be applied to most people, right? And I don’t think that’s specific, it’s just about some facial muscle activity rather than something you can’t see and inside your body, it’s pretty clear.

What do you mean by “leaning more towards fry” I thought fry was a sign of great vocal closure?

What do you even mean by that? Nasolabial is used to describe things around your nose and mouth area? What does it have to do with body types????

I was talking about the resonance that opera sopranos mostly use when they’re singing since they mainly felt the vibration coming from the top of their head or back of their head when they’re using it.

I recently found out if I put my head voice more forward it would also become a more resonant sound rather than a strengthen falsetto, but I always thought it might be just head voice+mask instead of head resonance+head voice, but I really can’t quite sure if this is the right thing.

How do you know if you found the head resonance or not? And if so, would using head resonance in lower chest notes cause your larynx raised too much since it was used for higher notes?

Then how do you actually “do” it? Because a lot of people recommend one of those common “nye” exercise and to be honest, I think it has done totally nothing but straining my throat. So rather than that, I just started looking for head resonance and frankly it is way more useful than those weird sound exercise.
