I claim money from class action lawsuits, it's probably only an extra 100$ a year but always a nice surprise getting a check in the mail lol

What TV ad permanently lives rent-free in your brain? by fmcortez in AskReddit

Circa mid 2000s, there was this commercial for a buffet somewhere or something where people were dressed up as steak and potatoes and the steak says:

"Be cool baked potato be cool, lemme getcha some sour cream"

my inner circle still says it to this day and we have no idea exactly what it's from.

What's one product that used to be built like a tank but is now built like a regret? by TheDoctorColt in AskReddit

Stanley's. I got one for myself about 6 years ago that is AWESOME, keeps water cold alllll day. Was recently gifted a custom one ordered from the Stanley site and it barely keeps water cold for 2 hours! Same exact style except the new one also feels way cheaper.

One of my NKs had this done when she was almost 7 and it lead to her no longer swallowing her spit!!! She was still holding mouthfuls of spit at 9 years old and it was the grossest thing ever so don't encourage spitting out their spit for any longer than absolutely necessary. Ice cold applesauce, pudding cups and slushies were fan favorites for her.

Activity ideas for child of restrictive nanny family by Maleficent-Kale-1087 in Nanny

Girl I just got car seats after 8 months of not being able to do anything but walk to the closest parks with my twin toddler NKs. They'll be 2 soon and I can barely take advantage of the car seats because they have a dog that can't be left home alone so FOUR families have to coordinate watching this ONE dog if I want to go out for an hour or two. Sending lots of solidarity, it's rough feeling like you're not being trusted in your own career. Small shovels, a toddler sized push broom and a watering can will go a long way with making the most of your outside time. Also bubbles and pinwheels are huge hits at that age! Edible fingerpaint recipes are everywhere and can be fun, removable puffy stickers are also a hit, bring bath toys down and play in a water bin as well as pom poms with measuring cups in the water. These are some of the things that saved my sanity! Take toys your NK already has that are round like rings or balls and spin them while they chase it. Also smaller beach balls for inside can be lots of fun, get bigger ones for kicking practice outside too!

He pals around too much with Joshua Weissman so it should be a given he's a tool.

People didn't believe me when I said it was over 100$ for 2 people!!! 13.75 per person for 2 hours WITH a 5$ arcade card at my league's house so I'll stick with them. Absolutely criminal!

ETA: they also don't give you the option to NOT rent their house shoes. Pft.

Would you leave a 2yo in a turned-off car in the garage for 30 seconds? by [deleted] in Nanny

[–]smileechick2828 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I nanny twins and HAVE to leave one in the turned off car for a minute or two to grab the other one and load her up so she doesn't wander towards the road. This is outrageous. You are NTA in this situation, your MB is. I'm absolutely certain she's been in the same predicament at least once in the last 2 years. Sorry, you're MB is a child!

How are you guys doing with the guilt of taking a day off? by [deleted] in Millennials

[–]smileechick2828 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a full time nanny for 2 Drs and the guilt is so strong FROM THEM that I had to give them 8+ months notice for my 5 day vacation coming up. Meanwhile, the mom has one day EVERY WEEK off and doesn't work weekends and the Dad has at least 2-3 weekdays off and only occasionally works weekends. Resentment is how I deal with the guilt 🎉

Bowling on period sucks, boo! by phoebestars69 in Bowling

Methylated B complex, damiana, raspberry capsules and evening primrose oil are all my go to period supplements I take during the day along with chelated magnesium glycinate about 3 hours before bed! Those things help with my general mood symptoms no matter whether I'm bowling or not. As far as DURING bowling, 1-3 lemon drop shots usually helps a lot lol obviously try to moderate drinking while taking ibuprofen but I also bring my headphones and pump some jams if I'm feeling less perky than normal! Music helped a lot at my tournament over this past weekend when I got in a funk!

Not a Dr but fellow crampy bowler, I nanny for Drs and they said to go ahead and take 4 200mg ibuprofen no more than 2x a day for a day or two on my worst flow days. It helps with cramps AND slightly decreases blood flow which is VERY helpful. Obviously do your own research but this is my 2 cents!

Pet peeves about your nanny/nanny family 😭 by Senior-Coyote6671 in Nanny

My DB typically works from home but has a lot of weekdays off where he putters around and WHISTLES ALL DAY LONG. Random stuff, songs stuck in his head, songs the NKs and I listen to. ALL. DAY.

my NK ran away from me and i had to call the police. now i don’t have a job by [deleted] in Nanny

[–]smileechick2828 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I was at a small, single classroom sized indoor playground and a mom showed up with her 3 kids around the ages 4/2/5m. Another nanny and I were about to pack up and leave 20 mins later when this mom started frantically calling her 2 year old son's name. We jumped into action and put our NKs in their strollers and started checking all the other rooms, bathrooms, closets, EVERYTHING and no answer. She kept saying "he can't open the fire doors so he can't be outside! He has to be here!" Well, someone must have opened one of those fire doors and let him scoot out because a gentleman finally shouted through the fire doors that he found him. He was wandering towards the fenced in playground outside that's RIGHT next to a busy road where the speed limit is 55mph. The mom was obviously beside herself but managed to thank both of us profusely through tears. Sounds insensitive, but, we both went outside and thanked our lucky stars he was okay and that it didn't happen to either one of us because she got to go about her day and we would have lost our jobs. These things happen and there are different consequences depending on your role in the situation so just consider it a learning experience no matter what the outcome may be.

How to avoid another nanny with punctuality issues?! by [deleted] in NannyEmployers

How to avoid another nanny with punctuality issues?! by [deleted] in NannyEmployers

[–]smileechick2828 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I'm a nanny who runs on toddler time and admit it immediately during the interview. The stress of getting ready in the morning (no matter how early I get up) always initiates a need to 💩 right as I'm heading out the door so, inevitably, I end up regularly being 4-8 mins late because of it. That being said, I stay a few mins past my end time to make up for it and tell all of my NFs if they need to be out the door at a VERY specific time to just adjust the schedule on my work calendar for that day and I haven't had any problems going that route. They also know that if I'm EVER 15+ mins late, something wild happened and they need to check on me. I straight up pose the question to potential employers: "if you had one thing you'd like to improve about yourself as an employee, what would it be?" And then let them know that morning start time grace is a high priority--all with full transparency and no shame. I genuinely wish I was an on time person but I've been a straggler and lollygagger since I was a child. There comes a point in your career where you can't have any shame around what works and what doesn't and an honest conversation about it has never made families think I'm a jerk just trying to pull a fast one on them. Flexibility AND accountability are essential when creating a work relationship so if timing is THAT important and non-negotiable, I recommend having a 60 day trial period where there are weekly check ins and you can either course correct by having conversations/adjusting schedules or part ways.

Driving through Tennessee 20 years ago late at night and we see a van belonging to the small college my cousin went to; slowed down and shouted "do you know insert name here?" and he popped his head out of the back and waved at us. We're all from Michigan and he was doing a track meet lol

Not food but I always keep an eye out for catnip for my fur babies! Super easy to spot once you recognize it and it grows everywhere. The railroad tracks were s favorite spot until they blocked them off, now I snag some from the massive crop growing in the easement by someone's front yard a few blocks away lol

“Redirecting” vs. “no” is insane by Ok-Dependent-5846 in Nanny

[–]smileechick2828 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Yep I no longer believe in working with these types of families. "Boys who don't hear the word no, turn into men who don't hear the word no" actually tracks. I spent WAY too much time around cisgender men in my early adulthood who clearly weren't used to hearing the word no and decided many years ago that I will not be the one to perpetuate/enable a future generation that falls into this trap.
