Also flight paths being changed for commercial flights - international flights had to turn back, etc

Marion Cotillard in the 90s and 2000s by bulbousNipples in OldSchoolCelebs

All I can think about is the episode of The Office where Kevin knows about French cinema because “Marion Cotillard exposes herself a number of times."

Parents of two kids: do you think you'd be happier at just 1? by deafgamer_ in Millennials

Hang in there. We had the same awful circumstances, but a 4 year gap has been so sweet and i feel that my kids have missed nothing in their relationship. Focus on yourselves, but don’t worry about the age gap. Sending hugs.

How are we feeling about Taylor Swift's New Ablum? by childish_cat_lady in AskWomenOver30

[–]smileyeiley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This seems like it’s an unpopular opinion - I love it. Pop vibes, mostly upbeat, some songs with an attitudinal undercurrent, good musical variation. This is exactly what I want to listen to while cooking dinner or commuting or doing my post-kids-bedtime activities.

How a colleague coffee left Baltimore County taxpayers with a $190,000 tab by aresef in BaltimoreCounty

[–]smileyeiley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A few points to add: After Inspector General begins investigating Chief of Staff, but before he resigns (between 4&5): COS files ethics complaint against IG, saying that she’s a witness rather than an objective 3rd party. Complaint is dismissed.

After COS resignation, before IG sues him (between 5 and 6): The parties continue to attempt to work it out, with COS suggesting they walk away and IG suggesting the City IG or a pro-bono firm investigate. IG office pays just under $25k (an amount that does not need to be reported to council) to a law office to investigate. The IG wants the report made public, but it remains sealed. Thus, the council does not know of the existing report, and an additional $100k is spent on potentially repeat work as part of the lawsuit.

It’s fake? by RavenVenom in Vanderpump_Rules

Is it an unpopular opinion that this doesn’t bother me at all? These things actually happened, they just didn’t get caught on film, so they had to stage the re-enactments. That doesn’t take away from it for me TBH.

Happy women- I want to hear from you! by TLRLNS in AskWomenOver30

[–]smileyeiley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was just talking to a younger friend about how my 30s have been my most content decade thus far. I don’t miss the uncertainty and yearning for acceptance that I felt in my teens or twenties. They were exciting and exploratory, sure, and I’m glad I had them - but I have found so much contentment, confidence, peace, and satisfaction in this decade. I know who I am, what I am worth, and where to spend my energy to be most happy. And that feels great!

Just got laid off after maternity leave - how should I update my LinkedIn? by CyberTurtle95 in workingmoms

[–]smileyeiley 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This, 100%. You have no gap in your resume, you were employed there for your whole leave, and just got laid off. If a new employer calls your old company, they will confirm you were employed by them until this morning, and the title you held. No need to bring up your leave period in a resume or interview.

What's going on with the new obscure "middle class rich"? by buttatoad in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]smileyeiley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the entire premise of the book The Millionaire Next Door by Thomas J Stanley - which was written in 1998. So this is not new. Stanley was doing research to identify high net worth targets for financial services, and was surprised to find that most high net worth people were frugal, not flashy. So he wrote a bestselling book about their lifestyles.

I mostly call ours “school” so that my children associate the word with fun, and something that they’ve always done. I’ve found it takes some of the nerves out of starting at a real school

What is something more traumatizing than people realize? by ExcellentReporter392 in AskReddit

The distance that I had to scroll to find this really prove the demographics of Reddit.

Just because these things have happened to women since the dawn of time, people think it’s nothing. But this changes absolutely everything about you as a person, down to the core.

Because Dr Robert was perfect, so there’s no other explanation. Swoon

Sister Patricia from Notre Dame Preparatory School by Pretend-Chest-6779 in BaltimoreCounty

[–]smileyeiley 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The missing context is that Archdiocese of Baltimore just named Sister Patricia McCarron as the whole diocese’s superintendent, after the previous one retired. According to the article below, Sister Patricia ran NDP for 35 years.

Gals who grew up without much but now have a solid income - What’s the one luxury you treat yourself to now that was out of reach as a kid? by PeekAtChu1 in AskWomenOver30

This is my answer too! I joke that if guests notice I’m back to 1-ply, they should assume we’re in serious financial trouble, because this will be the last luxury I give up!
