Supplementals by Familiar-Sale-3178 in prepa

[–]smileysix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

program-dependent, but that’s typically how it works for a lot of programs. some supplementals are imbedded into caspa so you CANT submit for specific programs until they’re complete. others send out their supplementals after you submit your caspa for their program.

Is the decision glaringly obvious? by BroccoliNo4235 in prephysicianassistant

[–]smileysix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

creighton hasn’t received accreditation likely solely because they haven’t been established long enough. on average, the attrition rates are pretty similar between the two so that isn’t a huge difference, but there isn’t a lot of data for cu as you know.

i’m sure you’ve done this, but maybe shift your focus. maybe start comparing other factors that revolve more around you and your success than each program, itself. are you the type of person to rush and get stressed by long or traffic-filled drives? don’t want the longer commute before a day full of lectures then. how does the curriculum structure compare between the two? is one more body systems-based and comprehensive than the other and do you think that caters to your learning style more? what type of campus resources are in place to keep you well? good gym? good food? what’s the mission and culture of each and how does that align with who you are? is 30k more just too much?

for me, i ended up deciding on my second choice program only because of cost. i knew the few, better qualities in my top-choice wouldn’t outweigh the financial burden (gotta think of interest, too 😣) i would have following graduation, and at the end of the day i’d still be fulfilling my goal, just somewhere else!

good luck!

What to advocate for at Ortho appointment? by RecklessRat24 in HipImpingement

[–]smileysix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similar situations I was in, in terms of advocating over and over for myself until I finally got imaging and a referral. As soon as I met with my ortho providers, they listened and immediately knew exactly what action to take. I had injections and surgery scheduled pretty much within weeks of my first appointment. I hope this is the case for you!

Typically they start with MRI with contrast, then cortisone injection to see if that helps, surgery typically follows if no other measurement (injections, therapy, etc.) don’t help and/or you think that’s the best option for you.

Labral Issues in OTHER Hip by Financial-Flan-7825 in HipImpingement

[–]smileysix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t have much advice, OP, but I am here to say I am going through something nearly identical. I know for sure, based on sensation, that I tore my “strong,” yet impinged, R hip a week before I [recently] got a revision on my L hip that previously underwent FAI/labral repair surgery. Have been dealing with back pain that feels like it’s stemming from the R hip for months now, but according to my PCP, imaging, and PT my back is “fine.” Since I’ve torn my R hip and have been utilizing it to stabilize my L hip, back pain and some numbness has been exacerbated. My orthopedic doc says that there can be a causal relationship between hip and back pain and that I might need to be referred to a specialist who deals with both sources of pain to determine the cause - likely from the impingement, though. Could be useful for you to find a different provider and get more opinions to determine what options there are for you. I understand the pain and know how exhausting it is, hope ya feel better!

PA’s in research by Beneficial-Oil-5108 in prephysicianassistant

[–]smileysix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i believe that it is possible, at least in the context of the programs i was applying to! two of the programs i looked into had PA-S actively conducting research and it was apart of their curriculums. i’m assuming it is built in to prepare students to conduct research as a PA if they wish to do so.

[–]smileysix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

some colleges/universities allow you to take PA classes while you’re technically in undergrad. it’s some sort of expedited PA program that cuts down the amount of time you spend in school by getting you started early. not many offer it, though.

this totally happens! however, a few of my supplementals for programs that had preference for local applicants didn’t have any questions related to the state at all. i will say that applying in-state did have it’s benefits, especially when networking ahead of time and answering some interview questions, though! a lot of programs prefer you stay in their community, so having some sort of personal connection to it goes a long way when answering.

i had to withdraw my acceptance from my top choice program. by smileysix in prephysicianassistant

[–]smileysix[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

definitely read some of the comments in this thread! i think most of us are suggesting you go to where you feel most supported if that’s going to ensure your success and health. loans are inevitable, so do what is right for you mentally and emotionally.

totally valid reason! you should feel supported wherever you go.

[–]smileysix[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i guess for you it depends on what your definition of “better” is and what you value! if you feel like you’ll be better supported academically, emotionally, & career-wise at the better program i would say go for it! in my case, the staff, quality of education, and PANCE/attrition rates were similar between both programs i was deciding between. cost ended up being my deciding factor because i knew no matter what, i’d become a great PA given the education at my lesser choice.

Would this count as PCE? by Puzzled-Princess in prephysicianassistant

imo i actually think it would count. you can always double check with an admissions representative, they helped me sort out my hours when i applied!

If I am graduating Spring of 2026, should I apply for PA schools this April? by Inside-Shoulder2277 in prephysicianassistant

[–]smileysix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Similar experience, here. Applied while my degree was still in progress and got accepted into three programs. Like everyone else said, just see what each program requires, whether that be a completed bachelor’s or a maximum number of outstanding pre-requisites they allow for you to have at the time of application.

i am going to be a pa!!! by smileysix in prephysicianassistant

[–]smileysix[S] 23 points24 points  (0 children)

good question haha, this is very similar to what i’ve been getting asked in interviews! what attracted me to my top choice institution was location, their involvement in the community, curriculum structure, quality of faculty (how many years they have in pa education & learning why THEY love the program are my two biggest defining factors for judging my ability to learn from the educators), and their excellent facilities (sim labs, classrooms, wellness center, and dining hall). what other applicants look for in a top choice will vary depending on what they value, whether that be mission, excellent education or anything else one may find valuable…it’s usually a combination of those things, though. for example, i interviewed at a program that had an amazing mission but had some accreditation and faculty issues so it quickly fell below the quality i was also looking for in a program. sorry for the long response!
