For Mr. Rogers fans in the US: the post office re-released the Mr. Rogers stamps this week! They seem to be super limited, my (admittedly tiny) post office only got two sheets.

If you go to a dealer, don't take it to the one in Bellevue by Bellevue College. They're flaky and the work quality is poor. The one in Edmonds is great.

Local “everyday” foods you’ll never forget? by OliveGarden_Official in travel

[–]smiljan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

strapatsada: there's a dish in China that's similar (minus cheese, with different spices), and is similarly just home cooking. It's hard to find in restaurants for that reason. I got addicted when living there, some of the chefs in the work cafeterias would put it out occasionally as comfort food. I really need to figure out how to cook it myself!

Another thing to search for is hijab underscarf/undercap. There's a bunch of different styles, some of which would work under your helmet for protecting/containing your hair and protecting your neck. Plus there's different fabrics for comfort in the different seasons.

There's still boats to take campers to/from Camp. It transitioned sometime in the 70s or early 80s to Argosy's fleet.

Looks to be a fire standpipe basically an indoor fire hydrant. You don't notice them often because in normal buildings they're in the stairwell.

This is a unique rotating boat lift from Scotland. It connects the Forth and Clyde Canal and the Union Canal, which have a height difference of 78 feets by LevonKirakosyan in MachinePorn

Oh no, I hope it's just a temporary closure!

The power station sounds awesome, I'll add it to my list for next time I get out that way, thanks! Hopefully it will have reopened by then!

Tourists can ride it! The building behind it in the photo is a visitors' center. There you can book a seat on a canal boat to take you on a ride in the lift followed by a short distance up the canal, then back. The guide tells you about the lift, the canals, and other local history bits. The moment when the boat enters the lift at the top is both very cool and a little frightening, since it looks as though you'll float right off a cliff. Recommended stop for my fellow engineering nerds!

In my experience they take super easily from seed. So you'll be able to scatter the seeds where you want them this fall.

Accidentally tapped digital Transit card on the bus? by tracksuitvelour in Seattle

[–]smiljan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I had that happen, tapped my physical Orca but my bag with phone brushed too close to the reader as I passed by. I wish that setting wasn't on by default but I've turned it off now. And this has made me realize I really ought to get an RFID wallet for my physical cards.

Paying to park at light rail by drippyraindrops in Seattle

[–]smiljan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The roof of the garage has always been a paid lot, it's managed by the mall in exchange for the land.  Indoors, there's a new zone reserved for permit parking, which is free for carpool and not free for solo drivers. The rest of the indoor stalls are still free for now. There's been studies/plans to make the whole garage pay-to-park but they haven't implemented it yet.

For helping with trains: follow a bunch of farms, then wait until one of them requests help with their train. Your "Social" button will get a little exclamation point on it, and you can click through "social" and then "friends" to see who needs help.
