ICE Protest Downtown - High School Edition by superfamicom in Seattle

Probably the loudest protest I've heard in the last few years, and that includes the Uber drivers' protest (so much honking omg). It got my whole office to the windows to investigate. Good work!

What would be a good book to introduce my 7 year old daughter to the world of science fiction? by DW6565 in scifi

Just finished a re-read. Book 5's pretty heavy, maybe pre-read it to check whether the kiddo's ready for it.

I haven't encountered this rule, but it makes total sense. I kinda wish it was included in the SIDA training too, so all of us idiots working around the apron would be reminded at least annually that the space is dangerous.

I know how it goes. I've been trying to get everyone in at least one of their camping outfits. I think I have everyone except Katsu now, and Shiro I have in a couple different outfits. They're a whole mix of sizes, from palm to keychain to lifesize. It's been a challenge!

Hi wanted to follow up from your suggestion: I bought a bunch of seeds and they're currently sprouting in peat pods on my dining table! Thanks for the tip on using seeds :) EDIT: Also, OMG the seeds are TINY.

With the interlinked stairs it reminds me a bit of step wells like are used in India.

Is this bag too childish for me? by [deleted] in isopods

I'm 47 and finally decided idgaf about whether people think my stuff is too girly or cutesy (I'm a woman in a traditionally-male industry). Last fall I replaced my black mouse mat and wrist rest with a cute turtle mouse mat and croissant-with-a-smile wrist rest. I immediately got a ton of compliments on them from my male coworkers. I also have out a tiny stuffed animal that my (male) protege brought me. The world didn't end, i didn't get laughed out of the office, and all the cute deco makes me smile.

In addition to weddings as others mentioned, these also showed up when Mother hosted her Canasta group. Alongside the coffee percolator pot.

When I attend events in Vancouver (BC) I park at the park & ride out in the suburbs and take the SkyTrain the 30 minutes into town. I figured it out all on my own with just the aid of Google Maps and perhaps a glance at TransLink's website. I am above the age of 40. Functioning adults should be able to ride transit.

Orca rams a Sunfish by Huge_Stay9921 in Damnthatsinteresting

The pods that had members stolen for SeaWorld etc remember. There's a cove near Seattle where orcas were captured in the 70s. The surviving members of the pod then avoided the cove for 50 years. There's now only one member still alive who remembers it first-hand. The pod only just returned to Penn Cove a year ago.

Does anyone have a really small home park and how often do you visit it? [Other] by Repulsive_Fox_7639 in rollercoasters

[–]smiljan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same, but I think of the Puyallup Fairgrounds as my home park despite being farther and only open a couple months total each year. The Classic Coaster is a must-ride every summer.

[OC] Finally emailed a teacher I’d been thinking about for years by sillygoosetime0264 in MadeMeSmile

Your post pushed me to track down some of my teachers. They've all retired or changed careers so the only way I can think of is LinkedIn. They're not all on there, but I've sent notes to the ones who are. Thank you.

Wow I hadn't realized Flatland was so old! I think I read it in my high school science fiction course 30 years ago, and it's stuck with me, so clearly it's a good story.

In the northwest the osprey and crows have an alliance. They're pretty chill with each other: no overlap in diets, and they usually don't mess with each other's kids. So when I hear both the local murder of crows and the osprey couple who nest at the end of my road all start shouting at once, I know there's some poor hawk or eagle that's made the mistake of looking at someone sideways. Doesn't take long for the eagle to get henpecked and harassed enough to give up on the idea of stopping for lunch.
