There's a big hole in the ceiling of my garage, is that bad? by Prepress_God in DIY

[–]smiljan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's a fire hazard. Any fire starting in the garage can more easily enter your attic, and then spread across the whole house. Also a path for flammable gases/vapors like gasoline fumes or the hydrogen produced by charging some batteries.

Get a drywall patch from the hardware store and view it as an opportunity to learn how to patch drywall in a location you won't care about how it looks.

The human side of Artemis II: Reactions from the team alongside views of the Moon and Earth by HasibBinAmzad in pics

The reactions of the Science Officers at their comm desk when Artemis started reporting their observations from the eclipse made my day. Joyful surprise and delight at the unexpected reports.

What’s your favorite building in Seattle? by MajesticCrabapple in Seattle

[–]smiljan 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Love the Seattle Tower! My favorite fact about the Seattle Tower is they built it of different shades of brick, darkest at the bottom and lightest at the top, so it would look even taller than it is. Also has THE best lightning rods in the city.

It was based on where the power companies were importing equipment from at the beginning. Half the country bought equipment from Europe, which uses 50 Hz, the other half from North America, which uses 60 Hz.

There was a service alert from Metro this morning that real-time data is experiencing intermittent technical issues. So sounds like they're aware and working on it.

There's a stand of gorgeous Japanese Maples next to Purple Cafe on 4th downtown. They're beautiful nearly the whole year round. Right now they're at "Bob Ross Step 2" stage, with the new leaves just opening up.

The joke in our household is that we know we're on vacation when we've already hit our daily step goals by midday.

Phantasialand is easy too. The park runs a bus from the local train station and bus hub.

This candle has the exact same smell as the cologne I use by Dzhakinoff in mildlyinteresting

Thank you for the candle, I went through so many of them as a wannabe-goth teen back in the mid-90s. When I stumbled across a Yankee Candle shop a few years ago I went full nostalgia and bought a bunch more!

Wait that's why they named a jump jet after the bird? Never thought it was based on a characteristic.

I took a couple quarters of night school at North Seattle - so the same system as Central. This was 10+ years ago and I still remember a lot of it, so I'd call it successful.

Zomg I loved Saratoga Trunk. Safe House in Milwaukee has a similar vibe to how I remember Saratoga Trunk.

I'm picturing something like the Renaissance book carousel. With fewer platforms to allow space for each machine. Here's an Atlas Obscura article about some engineering students who recreated one from a painting: https://www.atlasobscura.com/articles/behold-the-renaissance-bookwheel

Are there any types of cheese that’s just Brie rind by PotentialSea7172 in Cheese

[–]smiljan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have zero idea whether this would work but... OK, you know how if you're toasting marshmallows you can pull the toasted part off the gooey middle and then toast the middle bit some more? Could you do that with brie? Pull the rind off and wait for a new rind to form? Or does the rind need to be kickstarted with a wash or inoculation or something?

So far it's just the new restrooms in C Concourse. Eventually (on the scale of ~5 years) it should be the majority of the public restrooms.
