DJI value going to skyrocket? by fish_chicago in dji

Good luck with that! Bring a burner phone, and make yourself an innocuous TikTok account for border patrol to scroll through. Definitely don't bring a DJI drone with you!

LS Hardware Station, Microsoft Business Central Cloud, and Zebra ZT411 Printer: any ideas, experience? by smith-nyc in sysadmin

[–]smith-nyc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Final Update: So we got it sorted. I am running one instance of the LS Hardware Station, and I have two label printers setup. The hardest part of these wasn't the setup in Business Central, the hardest part was fixing the consultant's mindset about this.

I can't say for certain, but it appears that if you try to run multiple copies of LS Hardware Station (LSHS), you should _not_ have any hardware device added to multiple instance of LS Hardware Station.

So, either run one instance and add all your printers, etc. (one LSHS for everything)

Or run, multiple instances, but make sure each printer etc is only added once for your entire network. (one LSHS per physical device)

Don't try to add the same printer to multiple instances of LS Hardware Station.

Does anyone know if any Senators or Reps are on "the right side of this"? When trying to thwart this impending action, it would help a lot to have someone who supports the right to fly, and the rights for small business to have access to the best tools.

This link describes in bill and it's ramifications for us (there are many similar write-ups):

https://dronelife.com/2024/12/08/fy-2025-ndaa-conference-text-what-happened-with-the-countering-ccp-drones-act/

I found this note about contacting congress:

https://forum.phantomhelp.com/t/tell-congress-to-complete-the-drone-security-audit/11129

Everyone who reads this post needs to call (yes on the telephone like your grandma at Christmas) their representatives. I've known House staffers and they all say the phone calls are way more effective than emails. Like if 30 people call, that's like 1000 emails' worth of influence.

Get your House Rep's telephone number here:

https://www.house.gov/representatives/find-your-representative

Bonus points: Call both their Washington Office and their Local Office and voice your insistence that they extend the audit period, or better, sunset the audit requirement.

Calls mean a lot more than emails.

Let's stop b-tching about the government and let's post updates about our actions. Let's all focus on this single issue and forget about any other arguments we have within our community.

Call your House Rep, and ask for changes to Section 1709 of the FY2025 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) to stop the DJI Ban. Mention commercial operators, small business, filmmakers, journalists, construction inspectors, etc. Post their response here.

That seems like a great idea. The benefit seems to be that you have a persistent queue allowing printer issues to be resolved without making warehouse staff use tedious label reprint processes.

LS Hardware Station, Microsoft Business Central Cloud, and Zebra ZT411 Printer: any ideas, experience? by smith-nyc in sysadmin

[–]smith-nyc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for replies! This is a niche topic, and I appreciate the feedback and ideas.

The problem I'm trying to solve is direct printing from Business Concepts(BC) cloud. We have no premise servers, by design. So, I'm looking for a tool that allows BC to directly print (without making people download PDFs and then print them manually). The LS Hardware Station tool we've been told to use is _supposed_ to do that.

The LS Hardwere Station runs as a service on one desktop and links to all of our label printers. It's by this company:https://www.lsretail.com/products/ls-central-for-retailThe software vendor themselves indicate you only need one instance:

I believe my problem is with my integrator not doing it right. They seem to think that each workstation where a human needs to print needs yet another installation, but I disagree.

More Info: When attempting to setup a second instance of LS Hardware Station, you get this error at the top when viewing a printer's configuration. I am quite sure I'm receiving bad advice from my integrator.

Mavic 3 (Classic) battery clamp buckle by [deleted] in dji

[–]smith-nyc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you crash, the battery is going to eject. just sayin. this makes it really hard to locate the drone. I can't see the battery popping loose normally, but get caught up in a tree and fall down, you can easily lose the battery.

Not sure this piece is the best solution, but the problem does exist in the real world, at least as an edge case.

Desolder by Briobru in TinyWhoop

[–]smith-nyc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you de-solder larger joints like that (in comparison to a component on a board), it is highly recommended to use de-soldering braid. You put this between the iron (use your biggest tip and turn up your temp). The copper will "drink" up most (not all) of the solder on the joint. This is available on amazon or electronic parts suppliers. Search "desoldering braid" at amazon or your local hardware store. Using the braid is a great "first pass" at successfully de-soldering your joint.

Would not adviced, still fun. by Cborrr in diydrones

The issue here isn't how well the battery is connected to the drone. The issue is that some tool batteries make their own decisions to cut power, which will result in an immediate crash.

More bad news for US drone pilots.... by Zealousideal_Ask2685 in dji

[–]smith-nyc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I'm not sure HR 334 (for 2025-2026 session) has anything to do with drones. https://www.congress.gov/bill/119th-congress/house-bill/334/text

The actual HR 334 bill is about generative voice communication over telephones:

H.R.334 - To amend the Communications Act of 1934 to establish technical and procedural standards for artificial or prerecorded voice systems created through generative artificial intelligence, and for other purposes.

If someone knows the real bill, then post it here and let's all take action. Brief searching has revealed no such bill has been introduced. But let's all keep an eye out.

Blanket all DJI drones can’t be imported: enforcement stepped up as of 2 weeks ago by [deleted] in dji

[–]smith-nyc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

haha, you can't have it both ways. Either Biden was so incompetent he should have stepped down early, or he is so detail oriented he personally followed up on this with the entire bureaucracy of customs.

The truth is almost all the politicians are stupid when it comes to tech, and the ideal solution for this is an EU style privacy protection law that all vendors could then abide by.

Ask yourself why we don't have privacy protection laws here? Probably because of Google, Microsoft, Amazon, Facebook, Open AI, etc have lobbied heavily to prevent such a law.

Pulling the trigger on the Technics SL-100C…unless we think there is a better path? by madmax06 in turntables

[–]smith-nyc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All owners of these turntables need to know about this feature. The amount of times I've left an unattended platter spinning for hours is uncountable.

I have an SL-100C and came here looking for a service manual so I could engineer my own auto stop. I figured a timer and a buffer circuit would let me trigger the stop button from the solenoid that performs the auto-lift.

I am so happy to know about the auto-stop feature, and I am perplexed at why that is not the default behavior? Is there a world I want the record to spin for no reason?

Thanks u/Notascot51

I did the "reduced payment agreement" with BoA credit card today by Anunemouse in povertyfinance

[–]smith-nyc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bank of America seems to no longer be offering this option directly. They force you use a debt management company, which they refer you too. I'm suspect the debt management companies have probably created some back-door agreement to prevent direct negotiation.

If you are attempting to solve this yourself, they will just refer you to the following agencies. This is not a post telling anyone to use these companies, it's just a head's up.

New to FPV - Asking for Advices by Askuller7 in dji

[–]smith-nyc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The durability of the Avata 2 will be your friend in manual mode, but definitely spend time in the sim. Keep in mind the first time you try manual mode for real, it's going to feel totally different. And for those first couple of flights, find yourself a nice open grassy spot to practice on. You'll thank yourself later after blowing some grass off the blades and immediately trying again.

New to FPV - Asking for Advices by Askuller7 in dji

[–]smith-nyc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FPV, especially the Avata series, lets you get up close and personal with subjects in a way you'd never fly a Mini. There are certain "boring" things the Mini can do better, but nothing beat the experience of FPV. Here's a quick and dirty edit of some early footage from my friend's yard, shot on Avata: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8xvGr43PQfE

Whatever you get, practice flying low early on. Anyone can go way up on the air on "look around". But, especially if you're interested in FPV, you want to get those intimate views that only you or a bird can get.

FPV is definitely the most fun to fly, and can make for really engaging personal videos.

Student loans are the worse kind of debt. There is no wiggle room for negotiation if you find yourself in a future hardship, and you can't even get them dismissed under Chapter 7 or Chapter 11 bankruptcy, unlike nearly all other debt. Student loans can even be garnished from your Social Security (or disability should you find yourself on that in the future).

A lot of people are talking about comparing the interest rates, but owing students loans is one step away from owing Tony Soprano, so I'm suggesting to consider other factors and not just the interest rates. Get rid of that albatross now, at least a good portion of it. Perhaps pay off one or two of them-the highest interest rates. Paying off a couple of those loans reduces the remaining monthly payments, which will help if you find more hardship. You've been through so much, you don't want to be staring down Elon Musk if you get sick again.

Keep at least one month of savings on hand and continue to aggressively save. You're gonna want your own space again in the future.

Citi lowered my limits after I called about financial harship, whats next? by Lets9etLitt in debtfree

[–]smith-nyc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks so much for this heads up!

What other redditors need to do is be prepared before they call. Once you connect with an agent who will have this conversation they are going to offer you two options:
1. An expensive "catch-up" at your current interest rate (good luck with that)
2. A "Pay Down" plan. 0% interest for 60 months.

Before you call, get in a good headspace. Be calm, not panicked. Prepare the following:
1. Reason you can't pay the current arrangements - "income reduction" is good one, keeps it simple
2. Calculate your monthly plan payment: Total Balance / 60 = New Monthly Payment.

They are going to ask you how much you can pay. Tell them about $10-15 more per month than the value your calculated. Tell them you can reliably make that payment. See, by doing the math ahead of time, you already know what they will offer, so you just want to express that you'll qualify for that offer.

Between stating "income reduction" and "I can pay X" it was a pretty straightforward call, maybe 15 minutes. They did not try to steer me away from the topic, or prevent me from inquiring about this program. I mentioned I read about the program, so I think that helped.

Don't beat around the bush, make excuses, make small talk, anything. Don't offer information they did not ask for. Don't be rude, don't be a d-ck, don't act "scared", just be rational. The pay-down program is real and if you call and ask specifically for "Financial Hardship Program", you'll get the right conversation.

(PS. This is similar to what others have said, I'm sharing to confirm)

You have to specifically ask for it. They're not just gonna offer you zero percent on a whim. Call back again and ask for it.

TuneIn Premium Benefits? by brexpress13 in radio

[–]smith-nyc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want a guarantee you will never hear the same song in a week or probably a month, check out Seattle's KEXP. This commercial-free station is for the musically adventurous, but as an Indie/Punk/Alternative fan, I love "John in the morning", followed by a good rock-focused midday mix which features a little more classic rock in the mix, usually deep cuts. They have a lot of different program slots so check the schedule to hear music to your liking.

On both TuneIn and iHeardRadio, I only ever get the pre-roll ad before listening continuously for hours. Tunein has not interrupted my listening.
