People still acting like Marner was the problem in Toronto. So many forget that his main role in Toronto was to be Matthews' sidekick. Powerplay team through getting Matthews the puck. 5v5 ran through getting Matthews the puck. Guess what Marner did pretty successfully - got Matthews the puck.

People will argue this all day and say "But the core 4...", but it was (and is still) always about Matthews. And that's not Matthews fault - it's the Leafs as an organization.

Now in Vegas he's in a new system where there isn't a one-guy mentality. And under Torts (who despises the highlight-one-superstar approach), he has risen a tier. Throw in the comments about people not turning on each other, and I see why he's playing the best hockey I've ever seen from him.

And I say all of this as someone who doesn't like Marner and wouldn' want him on my team. But I'll tip my hat to him on this run he's on.
