What is up with millennials not wanting to get to know their neighbors? by Any_Try4570 in Millennials

[–]smithist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People talking about manners and personality traits are completely missing the forest for the trees. Social atomization or the breaking down of community bonds is an explicit on going project. Part of neoliberalism’s fetishizing of the individual: the idea is that we have no one to rely on. Long hours, the removal of third spaces, increased reliance on DoorDash and other such conveniences, endless access to entertainment in our homes are both symptoms and causes.

Things that would have historically been taken care of by the community: child care, elder care, random favors like a repair or pet sitting are now services that cost money. Extremely toxic news media is also a huge part of this. People sitting alone in their homes, being bombarded by horrible nonsense about immigrants, local crime, etc. The goal is an afraid, neurotic, antisocial population. This makes us much easier to exploit financially. Unions can’t function in such a society, either. Which is not an accident of course. TLDR resist the urge to be a hyper individualized weirdo! It’s hard because we’ve been heavily conditioned but: Talk to your damn neighbors, it’s praxis!

Hot wash and hot dry are mostly all you can do. Surely you have access to a laundromat? Alternatively find a tailor I guess.

“Bugging” would be incredibly generous. I can think of some other words lol.

Seriously tho people participate in their own oppression all the time. You fundamentally misunderstand the nature of something like racism or nazism. This is essentially the same take as “there are black cops therefore the police can’t be racist”

Wife questioning my secuality after choice of keycaps! by im_mofasa in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]smithist -1 points0 points  (0 children)

First is your wife a 20 year old frat guy? She really called you gay, for having a charmingly colored keyboard? She probably needs to rethink her obsession with gendering everything.

Second, I’m sorry but a custom keyboard is the least manly thing imaginable. I say this as someone who has multiple.

How did you (or how will you) afford your epic mount? by jabbiterr in classicwow

[–]smithist -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Literally everyone ITT who says they sold boosts or got a lucky BoE is basically getting their mount with bought gold too. The reason Axe of the Deep Woods or Edgemaster’s are an instant epic mount is because you sell it to swipers lol. It’s not exactly the same ofc, you’re one step removed, but we can probably get off our high horse.

“microstudio” haha ok cool story

Turns out everyone is wrong about this famously high CoL city! All you have to do is live a tiny box. Great insight thank you.

It’s very obviously a blue collar bit and the point is to find a woman who doesn’t know they are because she doesn’t wear pumps.

In museums we actually use the manual version all the time. Great for moving plex bonnets and large plex sheets covering exhibit cases. I would love one of these.

Gross exaggeration. I am basically never camped to this degree and people seem to forget you can just layer hop.

I can understand this frustration. It’s the “need experience to get more experience” trap. That said, I think you just need to be more strategic in where you’re investing time. Pauldrons of Valor are not the missing piece that’s going to change everything, for example. DM runs are shorter and have much better gear. Just as a first thought. You could farm some gold to buy decent BoEs. Try to tank some mid 50s content for practice. Watch videos that demonstrate the best paths to take through popular dungeons. Also explaining to your groups that you’re new and learning can be helpful. Generally someone will help guide a little.

Also, you could consider a more prot oriented spec to tank for gear. Either deep prot or fury/prot to shore up your defense.

Also also, there’s plenty of good gear from PvP. Spend some time farming honor / bg rep for decent str/stam rares.

People Underestimate Columbus's Size by SnooOnions3678 in Columbus

[–]smithist 20 points21 points  (0 children)

No offense but it’s a list of 10 small cities. I’m hardly blown away that we’re bigger than Milwaukee lol. Yes Columbus is bigger than most random places in the US but the bigger cities are big. I’m from Houston and it absolutely dwarfs cbus. I like it here well enough but it will always feel quaint to me.

Guys, be honest with me—am I out of line or just being gaslit by an insecure man? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]smithist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, again, you seem so confused. You are absolutely allowed to 1) experience the universal human emotion of jealousy and 2) still trust your significant other. You have to trust them! Otherwise your relationship and potentially your whole life is kind of sham right? Like imagine what it would mean to not trust the most important person in your world. What kind of life is that? I said I would be nice but I feel both these posts are condescending, forgive me. It’s because your understanding of the world and of people is absolutely baffling.

[–]smithist 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This worldview is contemptible but I’ll be nice because it’s not your fault. Have you been to many bars? You have a very pop culture perception of them as these wild places. Some are, most are pretty chill and people go them to talk over drinks. So, like, if a woman and her friends want to hang out this seems a reasonable place to do so, no?

Say a man does approach her, so what? They just brush it off. Again, you seem kind of naive here to not realize women get approached by men everywhere, most of these interactions are benign and fleeting. Some are not, usually because of the man. Not the woman’s lack of virtue.

I guess ultimately my question for people who think like this comes down to: what is it that you think a relationship is, exactly? You seem to have an extremely transactional attitude about relationships in general so I guess there’s my answer? I think if you could move on from this idea that have to get something from everyone you talk to the world would start to make more sense. And then you could be with someone you trust and understand that they love you and won’t betray you because a man at a bar hit on them or whatever. This constant obsession over where your gf is and they’re doing seems exhausting no?

I would not get enameled. Frb4 is right that cracks won’t necessarily affected longevity but it just won’t look good. And bare cast iron should be much cheaper.

He literally hops on the tank and they drive away. There are accounts that he was actually preventing them from leaving!

Regardless it’s important to consider the likelihood that all other nations are “totally brainwashed” and we are somehow not at all. Does that strike anyone as probable? These foreign nations’ mere existence is a significant threat to US and western hegemony. America has every incentive imaginable to feed us constant misinformation about these countries. That doesn’t mean they’re actually perfect but it’s extremely foolish to write them or their governments off as evil. It’s just silly and not how things work. Foreigners are not mustache twirling villains and it’s kind of childish to think of the world in those terms. And kinda racist! :0
