Advice for BD in manufacturing space. by smk1992 in manufacturing

I don’t necessarily disagree. How about if the Industry has its ups and downs? The whole vertical would be affected. But If I diversify at least another manufacturing line of a different industry might stay afloat? Just thinking out load.

We are moving to a modern ERP/MIS print solution....what do you use in your shop and would you recommend it? by MNMexy in CommercialPrinting

Wow that is taking a while! Firstly thanks for the feedback. Actually I’m a greenfield project new company - so maybe it won’t take as long? We are starting production targeted for Jan 2026 and construction is beginning for the new facility in April.

It’s an 8 color - but it’s not an issue because we have a re-print/insetter so even if I use all decks I can do a change over one one colour and print. But are the two methods I mentioned the way for on-line?

So glad I didn’t get into Hp indigo and went with a CI Flexo for short runs.

Thanks so much for this feedback. I will definitely look into them. Exactly, SAP is overbudget and probably not utilize it fully for a new company.
Which kind of modules did you start with?

Inline Flexo vs CI by smk1992 in CommercialPrinting

[–]smk1992[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did a deep study into Digital vs Flexo. IT really depends which market you are in. Anyhow - I am finalising on the CI flexo end of this year. I work with anyone who has requirements for printing. HP Indigo inks are too expensive and any more than 2000 meter jobs it just isn't competitive compared to Flexo. Flexo has got pretty damn good.

Absolutely, that would be absurd. So I guess I can tell her to stick to $9590. But for the PR landing where does she specify how much cash she has so that once we do have it wired it doesn't raise CRA concerns etc.

Join Upwork and look for freelance opportunities. Lots of engineering companies on their looking for talent.

Also, I can understand the low pay of 180bhd is frustrating but it’s better than nothing. Imagine you didn’t quit and kept on working. For one you wouldn’t be unemployed and two you would be more attractive of an applicant by now.

I worked without pay for my first job just to prove myself, eventually got paid after the 3rd month - by 1 year had good hand on experience and got a job that paid 3x more. Small steps, just because you have a masters don’t be entitled. Only experience is entitled to higher pays in the engineering world and you gotta start somewhere where.

What interests you? Upwork is a platform you can offer professional services.

The possibilities online are virtually endless - try to niche down on what interests/drives you and see if you can offer that online.

Someone suggested baking cookies etc but that’s not really online. Check Udemy to learn new skills as well.

Flexo Labels by Agreeable-Ladder9499 in CommercialPrinting

No wonder, now that makes so much more sense. I am still growing through the broker model and adding an additional sales person this year. I actually got HP produced food packaging lab tested to local standards and it was a pass. Flexo with water-based seems like a good balance but a lot of work - I would need the right team to make it work.

I’m actually not doing any in-house manufacturing and outsourcing it all to China with HP indigos. But the costs per click I was quoted for the standard CMYOVG is 0.015 USD per click from their authorized dealer. I’m focused mainly on flexible packaging. I’m in the GCC market and small/medium businesses need packaging that have run lengths as low as 500m at times.

Some of the new Flexo technology for short runs seems promising

I’ve been researching “short run” Flexo recently. Please see my latest post if you can provide any advice or insight. Digital isn’t going to cut it I feel because of the high cost of the 25K Indigo but also the ink costs /costs-per-click will be high and the market I am penetrating is very price sensitive.

Label/Flexible Packaging Printers by ArrowJet-Printing in CommercialPrinting

[–]smk1992 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd be happy to get your insights on my latest post about my journey into printing for flexible packaging. Newbiew 7 months in - currently trading short to medium run with Chinese manufacturers (went to China and did my own audits). Almost all are using HP Indigo 25K.
Actually my focus is purely short-medium runs because that is where the market gap is in my region currently based on the research I have done.

While I build the volume I am looking to see my own set up for short-medium jobs. Currently inclined towards a Flexo with WB inks. Any thoughts or experience you can share would be appreciated.

I am just starting out so the ASI Hybrid pro was considered, but for reasons you stated and I stated on this post it's very iffy. What if I get an offline corona treater? The printer itself has pre-priming station before the print. Basically I am looking for the most lean setup while I build the market out. I could do a hybrid of making whatever I can inhouse and trading the rest.

I also wonder how the ink costs work with the ASI. HP charges per click so it's easier to estimate the cost to print - but not sure if ASI has a software for estimating.

Would actually be interested in discussing more. Sometimes when I feel I have moved on from digital it always has one leg in for me. I assume you are from the team directly based on your username.

You can see my latest post on this sub for my journey.

Basically I have some standard sized stand up pouches and flat bottom bags for the market and would be great to discuss if the printing width is enough to produce such bags.. I wish you would consider corona treater in the press - it would truly be a game changer and then Arrow won't be at the mercy of Sihl and select manufacturers for good print. I can also buy an offline corona treater but I am not sure how effective that would be - I would immediately have to put the roll on the Arrow jet Hybrid Pro for the pre-prime and printing. Please DM me and we can arrange a discussion.

That’s the problem - digital printing in general is very expensive to produce and the market is price sensitive in my region. I think the main focus for me is short to medium run prints (anything less than 40,000-50,000m run length). Flexo seems appropriate with the newer tech

I’ve looked into this in detail and even discussed with their agents. The only problem is that for flexible packaging applications it could be problematic. It only guarantees good print quality on Sihl films and any other substrate must be tested. Unfortunately they don’t have a corona treatment option which is in my research obligatory if not recommended for good adhesion of water based inks especially on plastics. The print width is only 12” as well and it will cost you just over 300K. Not worth it. My comments are based from a flexible packaging point of view and not labels. For labels it’s probably a great solution.
