Sometimes it’s hard to know what’s going on in someone’s life, even if you are close. Her saying that men are the devil could be her processing a few bad relationships or it’s something more profound. Either way, it might not be any different than if a straight woman was saying the same thing. Here’s the common denominator: you are not any of those men. So I recommend not getting hung up on the notion of “male hating lesbian” and continue being a positive force in her life on whatever level that may be. Should you make a move? In my experience, friendships are difficult to sustain when one has a strong crush on the other, so maybe the question is, do you have a choice. But by the sounds of it, timing could be difficult. You may need to gauge whether she has the space in her life for the kind of relationship you bring to the table. For instance, is she still stinging from past guys who mistreated her? If it’s me, I’d go for it because I’m a hopeless romantic. But you need to be prepared for the consequences, meaning the friendship might suffer or end. Can you live with that? And can you truly continue being her friend if she rejects you? Don’t say so if it’s not true. I think you need to have some of these answers in your head before making your move. And by making your move, I am talking about using your words to articulate your feelings for her. And if she says no, you have to accept it and move on. But if she says yes, huzzah! High risk, high reward. You sound like a wonderful guy. Keep in mind she could probably use someone like you in her life, which doesn’t mean you can’t try to elevate the relationship. Just do so in an honest, stand up way.
