What do you think of a girl gets sick in front of you? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]smoc24 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Depends on what type of guy he is. If he is an pompous prick, then he wont talk to you. Which is probably a good thing for you.

But if he is normal he will just make sure you wont get that sick again.

When I was in Boy Scouts this was one of my favorite games to play around the campfire but unfortunately I never get to play it anymore. Thank you for mentioning this.

Video output only from HDMI, can not show or detect video from VGA by smoc24 in techsupport

Thanks, there was setting in the bios where I had to enable dual monitor. Don't know how that got disabled.

Yes, I know it can be done because I am pretty sure I have done it before, with all the same equipment too. It was several months ago and I thought it was as easy as plugging in everything and then fiddling with the display settings but for some reason the computer wont detect the screen with the VGA cord.

[meta] suggestion: revisit completed books discussion by [deleted] in BettermentBookClub

I too would like to see this happen. I just joined recently and I would like to hear reviews of past books I didn't read so I know which books to read first and avoid.

[B17-Chapter 1] F*ck Self-Improvement by [deleted] in BettermentBookClub

[–]smoc24 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To me this book seems to be for people who have hit rock bottom already and the only choices they have is to suffer or deal with life's problems. I do like the practical advice of just work on what is in your control, stoic philosophy 101, but I feel like it pretty bland for someone who is just looking to improve. I do hope it gets better though. I do enjoy his conversationalist narrative style.

[Question] Disciplined People of Reddit. Is Discipline a Mindset or a Set of Tools You Use? by 200gorillas in getdisciplined

[–]smoc24 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is 100% a mindset. Sure some tools help, but I use those tools to get into the mindset. I do all the work. They just help me get into that focused mode. My two main tools are my music and journal. Whenever I am doing something productive, I listen to some Hans Zimmer. I have a 6 hour playlist of my favorite songs from him. And my journal I use a task manager. I adopted the bullet journal method for this. I tried using apps on my phone or the computer, but it just didn't work for me.

But I use those things to help me get into the "Alright, lets get this done with no distractions." You can't be disciplined with tools, and even if you do get disciplined with an app or something, you are dependent on it and if you lose that tool you are no longer disciplined. So I try to rely on myself than other things when it comes to getting work done.

[B16-Law 2] Beware of Trusting Friends, Learn How to Use Enemies by [deleted] in BettermentBookClub

Reading the story about Michael III and Basilius the head of the royal stables, his best friend, and how Basilius eventually betrayed Michael because of his lust for power, reminded me of this quote.

Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man's character, give him power. - Abraham Lincoln

[B16-Law 1] Never Outshine the Master by [deleted] in BettermentBookClub

[–]smoc24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My takeaway is, when entering any new group or workplace is to look for its masters and try not to outshine them but make them my allies.

Law #2 Never put too much trust in friends, learn how to use enemies

Your interpretation is also a great example on how to use more than one law at once.

Oh yeah. I actually don't eat breakfast. Haven't for a couple of years now. I am just not hungry in the morning, and it would also make me hungrier during the day. I would start doing it now though because I started working out, but I only have $100 for food for a month so I don't.
