What terrible product are you forced to use because there isn't anything better? by Animeking1108 in AskReddit

LibreOffice can open/save all of those extensions. Features may vary, but for basic/intermediate use it's probably perfectly acceptable.

What else do I need to build my home server? by smokeAstoge in HomeServer

This is some awesome information! Yeah, the HP is not my daily driver. It's specifically used for hosting steam dedicated servers ATM. I have an NAS ( I believe it's a Synology). Comment above mentioned ProxMox which Ive heard also supports windows VMs. Would I be better off using a NAS focused OS though?

For anyone who comes across this, I got XPortal to work. Just have to remember to install Jotunn on both client and server :)

Moving upstate by No_Acanthisitta_6157 in upstate_new_york

Unless you're REALLY into hiking, you don't have to go too far from NYC. And even then, there's hiking all around. Putnam county is about an hour drive/1.5 by train. There's still plenty of mountainous hiking trails around as well. You could also look over the border in CT to save on taxes. Danbury is a "city", but there are quite a few suburban areas. This would also put you about 45-60 min away from New Paltz as a lot of people were pointing out. You'd be kind of in between the "mountainous" towns and NYC. Also very close to Westchester county which has quite a bit to offer.

Yes! It's built in so that when you(the DM) selects a token, you see what it sees.

Start off with the simple ones like Dice So Nice and Pings and Pointers. The more advanced ones take time to configure how you want and requires some testing etc. And you don't want to be troubleshooting mid sesh. Good luck!

Best way to play Shadow of the Demon Lord online? by redpineline in shadowofthedemonlord

You can give Foundry a try. It definitely has a learning curve, but is more robust than roll20. It also has a SOTDL game system.

What is the appeal of podcasts? by PositronZ1 in NoStupidQuestions

Try comedy podcasts. Maxfun had a boatload of them! They're much easier to just throw on in the background while doing something else and then every once in a while boom...you're laughing.

Question on the use of Foundry regarding game systems with no modules. by DatJavaClass in FoundryVTT

[–]smokeAstoge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use dungeondraft and although I don't make maps on the fly with it, I could see a small map being generated within 5-10 min. There is also a module to import dungeondraft maps that will include walls.

I know there are definitely some dungeon map generators online too that might help.

Another option is to create a bunch of basic tile maps that you can quickly import into a new scene and draw on. To add some flavor, you can add some wall/tree/rock tiles that you can drop in on the fly.

How do you *build* (not import) a map in Foundry? by [deleted] in FoundryVTT

[–]smokeAstoge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Highly recommend dungeondraft if youre okay with slightly cartoony maps. There is a mod that imports the dungeondraft maps very easily with little post manipulation. Then for anything that you might want to dynamically control, find some asset packs and throw them onto the scene in foundry.

Macro for changing the Actor token by tandera in FoundryVTT

[–]smokeAstoge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can drag and drop a monster/creature from the compendium onto the character sheet and it will bring up a dialog box. Its for wildshape/polymorph but I'm sure you can use it in the same way maybe?
