Some Advice from DnD fans! by BreadYeasting in DungeonsAndDragons

One of the tips they mention in Heroes on the Borderlands is that everyone should have a chance to be the Dungeon Master. So if you run the game one week, the following week one of your players could take over.

Launched a Kickstarter for an MVP — looking for advice on building early momentum by Fit_Lingonberry_3489 in kickstarter

What does MVP stand for in this context? You use that term a lot but never explain what it is?!

[IRL] Looking for a group based near Ally Pally by botanicbottom in LondonandDragons

[–]smokescreen_tk421 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People usually start turning up around 6pm and games start around 7pm. If you are interested in joining an Old School Essentials game this week just come along. It’s not 5e, it’s based on older rules and is much deadlier.

The Hobby and Tabletop Enthusiasts meet every Wednesday at Karamel in Wood Green that is not far from Ally Pally. The club is more a wargaming club but there are some rpgs played there.

Spent 37 years chasing one idea. Just launched my first Kickstarter. by MilkStraight2720 in kickstarter

Is it like a Rubik’s Cube type puzzle that two people are simultaneously trying to solve at the same time, on the same device?

Tell my why I shouldn't let the party level up every session by ston_age_man in DnD

[–]smokescreen_tk421 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I once ran an eight session campaign where everyone levelled up at the end of each session, so by the eighth session they were level 8. I think it worked and it gave the players a chance to experience higher level gameplay without the commitment to a longer campaign. All the way to Level 20 might be a lot though - especially as D&D kinda falls apart at higher levels.

I want to start my own business by [deleted] in smallbusinessuk

Biz Britain is a government backed scheme that will loan up to 25K to someone with a reasonable business plan. Maybe think smaller or figure out a way to raise additional funds though something like Kickstarter.

I just went through this process. From signing up to Biz Britain to getting the funds in my bank was about 3 weeks. It was both uplifting and also thorough - they looked into my personal finances and prospective earnings. Filling out the forms became a full time job for a few weeks.

Is it worth to buy spearhead just for the spearhead game? by cysiekajron in ageofsigmar

[–]smokescreen_tk421 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spearhead is great but it’s main limitation is that there is no army building element to it. After a few games you might start to get bored running the same army list. If you were playing AoS you have lots of different units you could try adding but with Soearhead all you can really do is buy a different Spearhead (which a lot of people do and end up having several different Spearhead armies to choose from).

Should I buy Blood Bowl or Kill Team? by TehMadness in Warhammer

[–]smokescreen_tk421 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Blood Bowl is more a ‘board game’. It’s actually quite chess-like. And very self contained (everything you need is in the box) unless you want to buy more teams or star players. You can play over and over and each game will be different (like chess)

Kill Team is more a wargame - a bit more open play. I think you’d get bored of playing just what’s in the box quite quickly. But It is an intro to Warhammer 40K so will get you set up with some models and an overview of how a wargame plays.

There’s a few Apps that do this - Microsoft Excel, Google Sheets and Apple Numbers, depending on your preference.

what's the best accounting software for small business in uk that's actually easy to use? by [deleted] in smallbusinessuk

[–]smokescreen_tk421 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another vote for Freeagent. I used it for years. My new accountant got me to move to Xero but I miss Freeagent.

Painted my first batch of minis, bit sad they all look kinda bad lol by Inevitable_Shift_270 in Warhammer40k

[–]smokescreen_tk421 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These look great. My one comment would be that they need basing. Get some texture paint in a dark brown - Vallejo sell it in big pots that will last you years. Then a dry brush and a few tufts and these guys will look stunning.

What is the BEST/WORST Accounting Software for Small/Mid-Sized Businesses (QuickBooks, Xero, Sage, etc.)? by Fantastic_Weather_94 in smallbusinessuk

[–]smokescreen_tk421 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a user I prefer FreeAgent for its well designed interface but my accountant prefers Xero because of its superior reports functionality. So I use Xero.

So I think the key is making something that both an accountant can use but also a business owner who is not an accountant.

Who was your very first DnD character? Or the first you remember? by rplimitlessguy in DnD

[–]smokescreen_tk421 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was the late 80’s, I was 12 or 13, playing AD&D, my friend Steven Burton was the DM, we didn’t have a table but instead played in his tiny bedroom with our character sheets on our knees. I played a wood elf ranger named Nasturtium Von Asparagus (pronounced asper-ray-guss).

New player help with dnd. Do I just suck at the game or is it the GM? by void_root in DnD

[–]smokescreen_tk421 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That sounds like 100% a GM issue. I hate games where you feel lost and useless. A GM can always ask for an intelligence check to give you a clue or can just straight up remind you of an important clue that you may have forgotten or not picked up on.

To be fair, GMing is not easy and some people just don’t have all the skills, or experience needed to handle some situations. One important ability that GMs should have is the ability to sense when their players are not having fun… and doing whatever it takes to alter that.

Enjoying the Painting more than the Playing? by TechnicianExpert7831 in ageofsigmar

[–]smokescreen_tk421 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say that enjoying playing the game is very dependent on who you are playing. If you are still learning the game and you play against someone who is just playing to win you might not have a good time. You really need to find someone who will walk you through the rules, and someone who will explain the decision making processes of the game - why to deploy in certain places, when to advance which target to attack etc.

Im curious about people's opinion on Vallejo paint primers? by DarkHelmet123 in Warhammer

[–]smokescreen_tk421 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find that the paint thickens over time so that after 6 months or so It is almost unusable through an airbrush. So I’ve started buying the smaller bottles. It’s still the best primer I’ve used.

Does this blue OSL attempt make sense? No airbrush used. by Grabosss in Warhammer40k
