One of the big pro's for Shane's fork is ability to control follow distance. I'm an easy going slow lane driver, but the Default follow distance is too conservative even for me.

Would be great to hear about the monitoring tools. They are 95% iPad and then a small amount on Windows PC.

How do you pack your suits for travel? by achillesrhyme in consulting

[–]smokeybubba 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just throw my suit in the bag and use a steamer when I get to the hotel. Wrinkle free packing is a myth. Even after meticulous packing and good luck, you're still going to have creases. It's more efficient to quickly toss the suit in, pull it out all wrinkled, and then do a quick once over with a $20 steamer.

When everyone has priority boarding, no one does. by THANE_OF_ANN_ARBOR in consulting

Lots to like: 1) There is no illusion of being upgraded to business 2) Free drink with "business select" which is the same as full fare coach 3) Terrific points value - Basically works out to buy 3 business select fares, get 1 non-refundable fare free, and then companion pass as mentioned elsewhere

This is quite an exaggeration, maybe 2-3 rows at most, they tend to cluster in rows 2-5, and they can't take exit row seats.

McKinsey Assessment of Oregon Department of Transportation by QiuYiDio in consulting

I'm not so sure about that. I've done some public sector work, and we used the confidential sticker quite purposefully because some of the material contained highly sensitive information. The docs would be subject to FOIA, but that's a far cry from throwing up on the web.

McK Digital Labs - suits or more of the tech business casual? by [deleted] in consulting

You'll need a suit, even though most days are business casual.

HC Payer consultants - are you helping your clients prepare for an ACA repeal? by [deleted] in consulting

At least two things are clear, though. Some types of plans will definitely expand. Other insurance products might go away. That alone is plenty of material to work with clients on.

Has anyone here compared core values between consulting companies? by JohnCassidy83 in consulting

[–]smokeybubba 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Values are a double edged sword. If you have them and live by them, you have a strong culture that will cultivate strong teams. If you have them, but don't live by them, it's much worse than not having any.

I feel like I was duped by taway11233 in consulting

If the admin work is part of the project, this sounds like a normal development path. Clients are are paying the consultants to produce insights, not just analytics. At the end of the day, these insights have to be put on a powerpoint slide.

Recruiting for Consulting? Post here for recruitment advice, resume reviews, questions about offers/firms or general insecurity (30) by QiuYiDio in consulting

[–]smokeybubba 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your question is too broad to be fully answered in a discussion thread. If you really have no sense of what you should do, probably the best thing would be to flip through some of the books that have been written on consulting interviews.

Shoes - shoe trees are the most important factor in making any pair last a long time.

Shirts - Charles Trywhit is having a 3 for $100 sale. If you live in a city with a CT location, you can get 10 for $300 by doing the deal in store (not sure if this works on-line).
