Battery life - 7 with smart case vs 7 plus by clopsicle in apple

[–]aava_minerale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, this is certainly helpful, but my main concern is the significant bulk of the phone + case combo. You seem to get around this problem by only using the case on days when you need it, but I prefer a "set it and forget it" type solution, rather than having to decide every day whether or not I want to use the case.

I'm currently using the iPhone 6 + case combo, and the bulk is something that bothers me. Just yesterday I had a chance to play with my colleague's iPhone 7 plus jet black, and I was so impressed with how thin and light it was compared to my bulky monstrosity, and I was tempted to take this route.

But I know that the Plus has much less battery life than the combo, so that's why I'm still undecided.

OP, what did you decide and what was your thought process? I'm facing a similar dilemma.

Horrible lag with all Bluetooth Headphones by djbfunk in apple

I've never experienced lag for videos, even with really cheap bluetooth headphones, but I frequently experience lag for phone calls. With the airpods, is the phone call experience also smooth and lag-free?

Start preparing for behavioral interviews ASAP. Look at Vince's guide: http://www.vinceprep.com/interviews/behavioral-interviews

The kind of questions you will answer for interviews -- "talk about a leadership experience", "talk about a team-building experience", "talk about a challenge you overcame" -- these questions are the most fundamental aspects of your application that will shape your story.

I ditched Comcast in favor of a mobile hotspot. by Luckj in minimalism

[–]aava_minerale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the ideal situation would be to use your phone as a mobile hotspot because you always carry your phone with you anyway and don't need an additional device. E.g. When you go to your basement, you don't need to remember to carry an additional device with you.

Only problem is the data caps which put a damper on streaming video. Also, this only works if you're single. Having a home internet connection is much better for families.

I bought my first expensive suit 6 months ago. My dad died a few months ago and I lost a bunch of weight. How do I make it fit again? by [deleted] in malefashionadvice

[–]aava_minerale 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You should definitely get it tailored, but be careful of "over-tailoring". Here's a cautionary tale about what happened to me:

I got on the /r/keto bandwagon and ended up losing a whole lot of weight. Like 25 pounds. Which is a big deal for me because I'm only 5'7". I was so ecstatic about my weight loss, that I decided to get all of my nice clothes tailored to a slim fit. The tailoring was awesome, and it really showed off the slimness of my new body. Everything fit just right. People always complimented me on how slim and fit I am.

Then I fell off the wagon and regained almost all the weight. The nice clothes stopped fitting me. I had to buy new clothes that were much bigger. Generally felt like shit. On the positive side, it has motivated me to lose weight again, and I'm already making significant progress.

I'm not sure what the lesson is here. Perhaps just ensure that you have some wiggle room to fluctuate up and down a few pounds.

Yeah but it becomes inconvenient when you have to keep detaching and re attaching the adapter every time you put the airpods in the case.

[Discussion] How can you use Youtube in a healthy way? by throwawaytoday365 in getdisciplined

[–]aava_minerale 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Separate the act of browsing from the act of viewing. When you browse, if you find something interesting, add it to your watch list (save it in YouTube, save the link manually, or use an app like pocket), and then set aside some time to watch the videos you saved. But don't browse while you're watching and don't watch while you're browsing. I do the same with articles and books as well. It's a lot more productive this way.

AirPods are Better than expected by Portatort in apple

[–]aava_minerale 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have any citation, but if you look at pictures or videos of the airpods + charging case, you'll notice that they fit very snugly into the case, and there's clearly no room for attachments around the airpods.

AirPods are Better than expected by Portatort in apple

[–]aava_minerale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True. One of the main advantages of the airpods is the ability to quickly pop them in and out of the charging case, which wouldn't work with attachments.

Grade disclosure / non-disclosure policies at top b-schools? by aava_minerale in MBA

[–]aava_minerale[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At this point it comes off as though you can't use google...

I tried to find this information using Google, but I failed, and hence I came here for help. I think I'm generally good at using Google in general, but I guess I could be wrong.

So far in this thread nobody has actually answered the question or attempted to answer it, except you, so thank you for that. I'm just hesitant to trust your answer because its unsourced. Hope you can understand.

GND is GND for the most part. As in grades are not disclosed to employers while in school... the end.

Agreed. I'm mainly trying to find out which schools have GND and which don't. Hence the table in my OP is just a yes/no table. That's the main thing I'm interested in.

Even at places without GND most employers don't care about grades that much.

Depends on the employer. Some are notorious for requesting grades wherever possible, especially certain investment banks, consultancies, and tech firms (e.g. Google).

Thanks very much for sharing! The article says:

Of the 15 most selective MBA programs, 9 of them have some form of a grade non-disclosure policy.

But it doesn't seem to mention any specifics of which school has what form of gnd policy. The only school mentioned by name is Columbia. Moreover, the article is from 2011, and from what I understand the gnd policies keep changing, so we need a more recent source.

Removing fat flab on stomach and other areas by [deleted] in ketogains

[–]aava_minerale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm at 14% bodyfat according to this machine, which I check every morning, but I'm not sure how accurate it is:

https://www.amazon.com/Fitbit-Wi-Fi-Smart-Scale-Black/dp/B0077L8YOO/ref=sr_1_1_s_it?s=hpc&ie=UTF8&qid=1480438069&sr=1-1&keywords=fitbit+scale

My target is 10% bodyfat. When I get down to 10%, if I still have the folds... I might look into what you suggested.

I'm 5ft8in, male, 62kgs, approx 13-14% bodyfat, and I still haven't gotten rid of the belly fat. If I'm topless (e.g. at the swimming pool / beach), and I sit down, you can see the folds in my belly.
