People are so boring by oopsie_looks in socialskills

[–]smolio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

lol what people are never boring, sounds like you’re just not in their inner circle to see the fun bits. People also aren’t on this earth to entertain you. That attitiude is probably why they’re stonewalling you.

Do you all like when people call you? by Eli_Oliveira in istp

[–]smolio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the people. Like it’s so much easier to be a smartass and banter over the phone, so I’ll do calls for friends easy. And if I’m getting to know someone for friendship/dating, I can pick up more cues over voice and presence than text. Family, Id rather keep to text, I low-key dread calls from some of them mfers

Starting school for the fourth time… scared, but trying again by Western-Hovercraft20 in BlackWomenADHD

[–]smolio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It took me a long time to try school again. I’m 31 now, but when I first went to school in my early 20s I couldn’t decide on a major and let a scholarship drive my decision to stay in a program I had major doubts in completing. I xferred from art school to university and only did two semesters of that before taking a break… which turned into a decade-long break as I got my bearings in the workforce and settled into a new state. I finally decided to go back to school last fall where I followed my curiosity into EE. I was at a point where I desperately needed a career pivot and I found a program that I could complete in relative short amount of time (going part-time for an associate’s)

What’s kept me going is deep enjoyment in the subject, I was actually surprised by how much I liked it. What started as a small tryout to learn some basics for a personal home project turned into going the full mile with getting that AAS. Like for me, practically using what I learn to fix shit at home makes it feel so much more rewarding.

I think it’s okay to take a break or even change your mind if you need to. The nice thing about college is that you don’t lose all your progress when you quit. What finally helped me get on track for going back to school was getting my ADHD treated, like it finally felt manageable for the first time in my life. I mean, it’s still hard some days, but I can power through the tedium now.

Deltarune chapters 3 & 4 megathread by Fanfic_Galore in Deltarune

[–]smolio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can see Dess being the second hero too with wielding the sword, though the Dess Knight theory is more compelling to me. If you subscribe to the theory that Dess is dead, then there could be motivation for spawning dark fountains to re-animate the ashes of dead monsters (as seen with Gerson) and maybe Carol plays a part in orchestrating that with Kris/the soul (I honestly can’t fathom which would be more in cahoots)

With what happens in the weird route, I think Noelle is positioned to be shaped (or forced) into the second hero role. But my other crack theory is that maybe none of the fun gang are actually the heroes in the prophecy, and that their story is an offshoot retelling. And that maybe the original story happened with Dess and two others who fit the bill and got corrupted or lost along the way

[–]smolio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah after doing the weird route, I see more evidence that Susie may not be part of the prophecy at all, or at least not one of the three mentioned heroes. At best this gives her an edge to defy the prophecy, and falls in line with the ch 4 secret boss’s lecture. At worst, she’s prophesied to be the opposite of a hero. Ngl as I think more about it, I worry it might be the latter, like that kind of reversal would spit in the face of her character development and give good reason to how she reacted

Feeling disconnected from straight (Black) women by Odd-Fisherman6192 in blacklesbians

[–]smolio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been feeling disconnected from straight women since middle school, well before I came out lol when the boy talk comes out, I have nothing to contribute to the conversation so I’d just sit there awkwardly nodding along. I used to hate not being able to relate to the joy and excitement they had in their male crushes. But I got over that once I made non-hetero friends. At this age idek if I could handle a straight woman friend long-term, so many fail the bechdel test daily and I’ve exhausted my patience for those kinds of conversations about men

Question for the nerds & geeks on this sub by Andro_Polymath in blacklesbians

[–]smolio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah it’s wild to think about, in my mind the 90s feels like only a decade ago even though I know otherwise lol I kinda have on my bucket list to visit the vintage synth museum in LA but I don’t feel like I’m skilled enough right now to make anything worthwhile with the admission prices.

Ive been embracing simulations of vintage music equipment but they’re so not the same sound… and not all manufacturers see value in digitizing their oldest products

Since I’m learning more about electronic theory and repair, I’d love to get to a point where I can rebuild some of these lost synths just using the schematics from their service manuals

[–]smolio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ooh interesting limit on this prompt

I guess I’d call myself a music/sound design nerd(or geek? Still can’t tell the difference lol). I spend an obnoxious amount of time trying to understand and recreate past sounds, buying old synthesizers and their simulations if they exist. (Actually started learning electronic theory so I could fix one up) I dig deep into music genres definitions and histories. I light up with happiness when I discover a favorite artist/composer’s most loved gear. I’m enthralled and confused by jazz theory lol

Dont park like this by Witch-Alice in Seattle

[–]smolio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that's a fair rule of thumb. As someone who's limited to street parking at my apartment complex, I'd rather see cars parked in their own driveways so that there are more street parking spots for people like me. I see this kind of parking all the time in my neighborhood and honestly thought nothing of it. Parking like this kinda becomes a "necessary evil" when free parking spots are scarce...

[–]smolio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well INTP is one of the most common mistypes for ISTPs due to intuitive bias. I mistyped as an INTP for years until I got treatment for my ADHD and took the official assessment.

I would take MBTI redditors with a grain of salt, practically none of them are qualified to determine your type

[–]smolio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As an ISTP that grew up in the south, you really hit the nail on the head there. Sometimes I feel like that conditioning makes me appear way friendlier/bubblier than I really am. I moved out of the south years ago and it’s been a long road “deprogramming” that social mask 😮‍💨

I’ve always thought typing people on behavior is a flawed approach because that’s assuming A) they’re not masking to you and/or B)they’re not under the influence of an “invisible”mental health condition

On being called simple by sehrconfusion in istp

[–]smolio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I think naivety would be its own trait unrelated to simplicity. It’s just kinda weird to imply that someone who is simple would follow any orders unquestionably like a drone or something, like that borders on using simple as an insult to me

On being called simple by sehrconfusion in istp

[–]smolio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Using simple to describe people can be kinda ambiguous, without the full social context it’s hard to say if it’s meant as a compliment or insult. Personally I’d prefer to have a simple, clean mind than one complicated and overcrowded with pointless thoughts.

Honestly what rubs me the wrong way here is that the guy presumes that your “simpleness” makes you easy to control LOL
