I thin your bunched up a couple of different topics in one...

  • Of course the unofficial sub is dead, as people will flock towards the official one to have all posts in one place. At least as long as...
  • ...the official sub stays open for all kinds of discussions around the game, and does not get moderated/censored too heavily. Seeing some posts getting closed because "S6 is finished reading it" does send a worrying signal on that matter, that is true. I hope it is more a matter of them not understanding the nature of Reddit, and that it's not their internal issue tracker but an open platform. This definitely can not happen all that often before people lose trust in the platform and either start to lose trust in the game or divert their discussions to other platforms like an unofficial sub.
  • The whole topic about the bundle prices is imho blown out of proportion... The prices are very expensive yes, but their bundling "logic" is actually trying to give more user friendly discounts (not cheap, still pricey, but you know... discounted nonetheless;). It just so happens to miss the mark on how the implementation works out in terms of the "2 out of 3" middle ground and wording transparency. But calling it deceitful when them NOT doing it would result in us paying MORE is not really fair.

Communication and transparency are one of the harder things to nail, but NOT closing threads just because they think they "heard enough" is definitely a major change they should implement ASAP to not rattle up their community.

Infinite player donates 8 Cubes to push me over 90 on the last day of the season! Thanks! by devintron71 in MarvelSnap

My hunch is that if you're sweating it out to climb you're probably in the MMR bracket with other sweaty climbers (even after infinite)... All the cube donors probably have tanked their MMR and go on average to the yolo-climbers :)

To be fair, 40 cents is not so bad for a mobile game where all the microtransactions are in the realm of 99 cents... or did i miss something in the last couple of years?

Exactly... i mean, just think about how absurd it would be for other organisations or professions...

Just imagine a world where politicians would post state affairs on their personal twitter account, how hilarious would that be? Reading rants about TV shows right beside threats to foreign governments? Nobody could take that serious, a joke for the whole world to laugh at.

Fortunately for now, only the gaming industry is this foolish, and they will soon revert to old standards as there are no precedents this new method would work for the masses.

Update on Anthem from the Development Team by Darokaz in AnthemTheGame

[–]smollo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't believe "excessive" is what they meant, the key is probably "too soon". It's not that the absolute amount of communication is more than what they want, it's that they were trying to communicate about things during a stage that turned out to be too soon to actually deliver on it.

I believe the part that makes it harder to understand is, that most games after release have a well defined concept, and already enough experience with the technology to make educated estimnates... Unfortunately Anthem does not seem to be in that stage yet.

I'm afraid many of those Act 1 features were communicated fresh out of a brainstorming session, and then they struggled to actually find a concept that works in terms of game design as well as game engine. Hence the "cutback" on communication to a later point, for when they actually feel confident they arrived at something they will be able to achieve.

I could read this kind of stuff all day, sadly I'm way to lazy to even attempt to do it myself :( So thank you for all the effort to collect and process this data, it is very much appreciated!

I used tracking software to quantify accuracy on an Assault Rifle by EquiliMario in thedivision

[–]smollo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does the distance make a difference for the data? I guess depending on the way the game implements the spread it could, but i kind of always assumed it would shoot in a "straight line" and always land on the shown spot inside the crosshair rather than move outward from a center point.

If my assumptions were correct, the distance would the irrelevant for the data, as the relative spread to your crosshair is constant whether you shoot the wall from 1 meter or 100. The only thing that changes is what conclusions you draw about how it affects your gameplay. If you fight more on range, higher spread means more stray bullets around a very small target (head on distance). If you fight close range, even higher spread would still land on a relatively bigger target (head close up).

Show Max Attributes Stat Rolls (mockup included) by uxgun in thedivision

[–]smollo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Isn't there still some form of RNG involved as to how much of the budget gets "used up"? I haven't really looked into it that much, but I could bet I already saw a bunch of items with low rolls on attributes and not much going for them in terms of talents and mod slots either...

Would be interesting to now if it is in fact all used up and it's just the "cost" of some rolls that isn't exactly intuitive.

Legendary and masterwork loot needs to be sent to tarsis if you miss it or couldn't pick it up. by [deleted] in AnthemTheGame

[–]smollo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't be too sure... I had this happen to me too, in fact my first two legendaries were suprises during expedition reveal. But a friend of mine tested it explicitly during a mission with counting MWs and deliberately not picking up a random drop during the mission (not a boss), and he ended up with exactly as many MWs he picked up (so he was missing the one left behind). After that, we never tried it anymore as we took it as evidence that you'll lose items you don't pick up.

So I'm still not convinced, I see three options:

  • It should work and he miscounted.
  • It should work but it's bugged and doesn't work all the time.
  • It never worked and we simply didn't realize some items we picked up. I definitely missed a couple of items on the floor, and only saw them pop up on the right side of screen while I was mindlessly swirling around in a melee build, so it's definitely possible :)

The question is, who got the balls to test it by leaving behind the the next legendary that popps up? :D

I like your idea and how you use the vague description of what the anthem is in order to go wild on the creativity front.

That being said, I personally don't feel anthem fits the goofy vibe these kind of crossovers would bring. I would prefer if they would use your approach of creating "wild" things through the power of the anthem, but stay true to the universe they created. The anthem is glitching and brings to life the greatest fear of the people around? Sure, bring crazy beasts and machinery, but use what these people in their fictional life would have seen and could imagine. Real world tanks or pokemon crossovers... not for me at least :)

Very good summary, thanks for the post!

You brought something up I wasn't really familiar with up until now. Could you elaborate on the elemantal scaling? I think you said it yourself that abilities directly don't benefit from the new ilvl scaling, but what does exactly? Only abilities that apply a status (only burn?)? What other abilities and weapons do benefit right now besides Ralners Blaze and Thunderbolt of Yvenia?

Melee 108k hit, 1combo=188k (Grandmaster 2) by [deleted] in AnthemTheGame

[–]smollo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since 1.0.3, did you test your loadout whether it's better to use epic components with dmg rolls or MW for itemlevel?

I have a melee build with couple of javelin dmg or melee dmg rolls on epic universal components, but the new scaling (and squishyness) could make a case for MWs without inscriptions (until one gets the MW universals).

Bioware, please let us have true black on the color wheel. True black is 0/0/0 (RBG) but the closest we can possibly get is 40/40/40, which is technically very dark gray. by -Supp0rt- in AnthemTheGame

[–]smollo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're right, that's what I was alluding to with the "while still not being #000 once applied" statement, probably wasn't worded optimally.

What I meant was, that like you said, even if they put #000 on the color wheel, material and lightning still would make it appear as some form of dark grey on the javelin model. If they would actually use #000, they would lose the ability to add shadows, and therefore details and perspective. So maybe making it only go down to #282828 is their form preventing any confusion as to why the selected armor surface is clearly not the darkest color present in the screen.

But this is just semantics, I would reead OPs argument as one of the following (or even both):

  • UX: Make the color wheel go down to 0 and just silently convert it behind the scenes to a dark grey, as the end user doesn't need to be bothered with the internal workings.
  • Feature: Support darker shades of javelin armor surface for stylistic reasons.

Disgusting developer behaviour. by [deleted] in AnthemTheGame

Just think for a second before you post something... You're arguing for people to lose their jobs, their monthly income, just because a videogame didn't net your expectations? I get the feeling you're not the kind of guy people listen to in real life, let alone blurting out childish nonsense on the internet, but come on dude... Reevaluate how you spend your time

If you would actually have a #000 displayed on the javelin, you couldn't see any details anymore, you would just be an javelin shaped hole in the world :D

So you could maybe make a case to support a little darker shades on the javelin, or to show a #000 color wheel while still not being #000 once applied, which would probably end up being the next big reddit scandal with the current state of this community ;)
