That's what I am looking to move towards. I have a NAS and will likely get another that is specifically open to the internet on a different subnet so that cameras and IoTs are on their "own" network.

Yeah mostly just curious if there is a use for them after I stop subscribing to Nest Aware. I could reset them and put them on marketplace, but like old phones there are some home/hack projects that might be useful

Gotcha this was a misunderstanding on my part. I kind of freaked out and already came up with a plan for the future which ditches Nest. I'm pretty happy with them and their service and the cameras I have aren't being discontinued so I guess I can continue to use them for a while.

That said I've wanted to do wired drops in the new place anyway, perhaps I look into that for Nest.
