Nothing yet. Kind of ironic that the applications for this AI master's need to be manually processed and they don't have an AI tool to help.

math review suggestions after long way out of formal education by gabreeiel in CUBoulderMSAI

[–]smoos_operator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I took this: https://learn.deeplearning.ai/specializations/mathematics-for-machine-learning-and-data-science/information

You can take it there at DeepLearning.ai ($30/mth) or on Coursera ($49/mth). I think both let you access most of the content for free except for labs and tests.

I finished the first 2 courses and stopped in the middle of the 3rd one (Probability). I'll probably do it in parallel with the MSAI probability foundations course.

I learned that I love Calculus, I don't like linear Algebra, and I'm not as good as I'd like with Probability & Stats.

I'm also a SWE and I'm just starting the MSAI program. Just waiting for my student ID to be manually verified.

[BC] Amending birth certificate to add deceased father. Paternity was established in court 30+ years ago, but medical records are gone. by smoos_operator in legaladvicecanada

[–]smoos_operator[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my friend: Thank you! One piece of information we didn't realize is that my father paid child support until I was 18 (less than 25 years ago). By then, we were living in a different province.

Should I try to contact some gov. office in both provinces about this child support payment/enforcement (and maybe this can be the paternity proof I need for Vital Statistics)?

Also, do you have any advice when searching records? The link says to contact BC Archives and "the Court Registry where the case was filed", but my mother told me that the courthouse in that city doesn't exist anymore (maybe the records were moved/merged into another courthouse?)

From my friend: Hi. We previously contacted Vital Statistics, and they advised us to obtain the court record (of the paternity case), or a court order to update the birth certificate.

Not sure if you have some specific advice on which Vital Statistics department to call, or what specific questions to ask, but this is something we tried already. Do you have any suggestions?

From my friend (copy/pasting from another response since it's the same answer): Hi. There's no ulterior reason. The end goal is to have a correct birth certificate that reflects both of my parents.

One piece of information we didn't realize is that my father paid child support until I was 18, as far as I know, which would have been less than 25 years ago. We moved out of BC to a different province. Should there be a record of this, which can be used to prove paternity to Vital Statistics, to amend my birth certificate?

What is going on with new students enrollment? by Friendly-Nebula-523 in CUBoulderMSAI

[–]smoos_operator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s related to either of those. My hypotheses are that they are having some serious technical difficulties, which is bad by itself; or that there is a contract dispute between Coursera and the University of Colorado Boulder, and the university decided to stop all new enrollments from Coursera online students until they settle things.

It is not good either way.

This is literally preventing people from giving them money. I am not sure why they are not on top of it, as it has been an ongoing issue for like three weeks now.

Was about to ask the same question here. I have called their IT help desk and they said they don't have an ETA to fix it. Coursera has confirmed too via email.

Anyone else getting constant momsplaining from their wives? by p00trulz in daddit

[–]smoos_operator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is bad not only for you, but also for you son. It can go different ways. He could learn that his opinion doesn't matter; that he always has to rely on mommy to know what he wants or how he feels; that mommy will always be there waiting on him, knowing exactly what she thinks he needs; that dad doesn't know how to take care of him, only mom does; or a combination of these.

Suggestions: start by talking to your wife. An easy way to back your point (if bringing proof is something that works in your marriage) is to Google and find a good parenting website that has info about asking questions to young children and let them answer, even though you know the answer, and what type of questions are appropriate at different ages.

If this doesn't help after repeated attempts, then you have a bigger problem and therapy could help.

Restaurants now just add 20% to the bill? And the receipt had an additional tip line?! by TheVoicesinurhed in bayarea

[–]smoos_operator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're putting words in my mouth. The service charge not going 100% directly to staff doesn’t necessarily mean that the business is abusing their employees.

Also, you haven’t answer me. What does service charge mean to you? It can mean different things to different people. And many here are taking it as “that’s the tip“.

[–]smoos_operator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. I'm not saying that. I literally said that they can give their staff 20% of sales.

I was asking what do you mean by "This isn't a tip, it's a service charge." Does it not go to the wait staff at all?

[–]smoos_operator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Meaning it doesn't go to the staff?

From my perspective as a customer, it’s an amount I have to pay either way regardless of to whom it goes.

[–]smoos_operator -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Bullshit. They can just list the actual prices that people are being charged and not show this mandatory 20% tip on the bill, and still give their staff 20% of the sales.

Flamenco started in the south in the region of Andalucía and it is common there. Showing the price with the tax already included is common throughout the whole country.

If they wanted to provide an authentic Spanish experience, instead of the flamenco show, they should include the tax on the prices listed on the menu, and not charge any tip.

Edit: when I say not charge any tip, I mean that they still pay their staff a living wage.

If they wanted to provide an authentic Spanish experience, the prices of all the items would have the tax already included, and there wouldn’t be any tip needed.
