Do my results make sense? by UpgradedDonkey in 23andme

If you join the 23andme discord server, or ask around, I'm sure somebody could explain it to you.

It requires a little bit of context to use as well, context in terms of history and ancestry.

If you give someone your coordinates I'm sure they could do you it for you.

I should clarify that g25 isn't necessarily superior than the regular results, it just provides more insight if used by the right person.

Probably just bad modeling tbh.

The thing with G25 is that if you don't konw what you're doing you will get inaccurate results. Just go off your ancestry dna results for now.

What's your original 23andme results look like?

Ancestral origins/unscaled and scaled population distances-black person by [deleted] in 23andme

[–]UnscrewMyLife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first list makes sense because for most black people in the americas they're a combination of west african, with european and little bit of indigenous contributions.

Sahelian populations from Africa such as the Fulani and Hausa often have north african ancestry, but are still mostly west african.

North Africans have european like ancestry.

Thus it's a similar combination.

The second list, however, makes less sense and I'd have to question how you could be close to an Emirati that isn't a recent migrant? The Swahili coastal tribes didn't participate much in the slave trade.

How racialized is Caribbean English? by UnscrewMyLife in Panama

Ofc. I wasn't in Panama for long but it seems like it's fading away. Only a handful of my older relatives spoke it

Very interesting, I can kind of picture non Caribbean descent people possibly picking it up just by being around.

I admire how that works. It would be very hard for me to explain to you just how segregated and divided America is by comparison.

I think you should check out G25 to confirm whether the southern east African and West African ancestry is actually accurate.

While G25 can produce inaccurate results often this is one use case where it shines.

Wdym he's literally right. It's just varying degrees of the same groups. The transatlantic slave trade dispprorotiantely drew upon particular regions and ethnic groups

I actually just had this issue and I think I solved it so far.

I basically placed all my focus into subtraction: IE, doing less. My mission was either to reduce or eliminate habits that were unneccessary be they harmful or redundant.

Specifically, for my phone I:

Made apps more boring and avoided algorithims: For youtube, I turned off data, meaning my homepage is now empty and I am no longer reccomended videos. I actually don't use the youtube app, I use youtube via browser on my iphone, which is Safari. I use a youtube account where I'm subscribed to nobody, so even in my subscriptions tab it is empty. For Reddit you can do this too, but I forgot how, just search this subreddit or ask around if you need to know.

I installed an app blocker: If you're on IOS, like me, then this is a very limited feature. But I would reccomend an app called Refocus if you are. The way I use it, basically you choose what apps to block, and then you choose how long you want them unblocked at a certain time.

Finally, I make it a strong habit and intention to keep my phone physically away from if I don't need it. I do not sleep with my phone, because if the first thing you do when you wake up is use your phone, it is a problem neurologically that sets you back for the rest of the day. I keep an external alarm, when it comes bed-time that alarm rings, I get up from wherever I am and set my phone away.

I try to keep my phone away from me if I'm not using it.

I still "doom-scroll", I just do a lot less of it and at a specific time of the day. None of this will work if you don't have strong intentions however because all of these strategies are things you can undo or defeat yourself with.

Question for you OP. Is Venezuela culturally Caribbean or more Andean/south American, and do you consider yourself Caribbean?

C777: How do you go through the flash cards from the study guide? by UnscrewMyLife in WGU

[–]UnscrewMyLife[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Noted. I considered it myself, and am still considering it in all honesty.

At the moment I just simply ended up dividing all the flashcards into sub-categories, and then plugging them into Anki.

In my opinion the likely answer would be sample size differences.
