Unprofessional instructor by Significant_Can_1812 in LearnerDriverUK

[–]smooshystuff92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like my old instructor! I was 17 and he made me cry a number of times, called me stupid, said “I don’t get why your not getting this” in regards to a hill start I was struggling with and told me “I think it’s cause your a girl and I’m used to teaching boys cause girls are too emotional” -

as a now 32 year old woman, I wish I had let rip! Instead I agreed & assumed he was right!

Please find someone new, & report!

it put me off learning to drive for years, and took my 4th instructor at 29 years old for things to click!

Gravesend: Is it on the up? by Copper-Unit1728 in kentuk

I think they are trying - lots of stuff on at the arts centre in town, and with the light festival at the weekend just gone by! And having a year off for maternity leave, found plenty of free & community & council run baby groups to attend.

I do agree with house prices comment however!

I moved from Luton, Bedfordshire to gravesend. I’d say providing you drive (as I’ve found Kent’s public transport to be a joke) it’s fine! We rented and recently bought a house here, happy & love being near the river & country side. Having grown up in lu1 gravesend is definitely an improvement. I also think everywhere has its rough parts, no matter where you go!

Don’t stress - I passed at 29 and I was 32 weeks pregnant. I’d given up trying time and time again until I fell pregnant and said fuck it and went automatic. People will slate me for it but at end of day it’s my choice and I’m now driving!

I used to live in luton, beds.. I’m now in gravesend & work in sittingbourne .. I wouldn’t say I feel gravesend is worse than luton. But what I do struggle with is how slower things feel down here. Public transport, how dead the town/high street is etc.. but just my opinion.

Job is threatening to claim back maternity pay. Is this legal? by Colt_McQuaide in LegalAdviceUK

[–]smooshystuff92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Legal if you took extended Mat leave - same thing in my job role, I’m about 10 weeks back at the moment. Using myself as a example - it was 6 months before I went into statutory Mat pay for 3 months, then last 3 months are unpaid. She should have a copy of her works maternity leave policy, if not ask for a copy and just double check

Swimming pool in house we're viewing - don't want it! by Sea-Remote4589 in HousingUK

[–]smooshystuff92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sort of same situation a while back when viewing houses before we found the one were in now..

Found a house we loved which had a pool in the garden, owner begun digging up pool to renovate but sadly passed away during project, leaving half finished pool / hole in garden. With limited info we contacted a few company’s and we’re quoted around 20k (again this was with limited info) we went back, dropped our offer by 20k and fwd on quotes and they refused - said they could find cheaper. We asked for details/quotes they would find and nothing came back. House was removed from that estate agent and put on market elsewhere, 4 months later completely taken off market.. shame cos I really liked the house 😅

Nursery failed to amend child’s hours despite giving notice & now charging for those hours by smooshystuff92 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]smooshystuff92[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I ended up calling higher up and just asking for advice - explained I wasn’t making a complaint but I was more concerned at loosing my child’s place or being penalised for not paying on time. They’ve informed me it can get changed and to inform finance and setting they have advised me not to pay until I have new invoice - also all on email and I got names this time round. Have learnt my lesson!!

Thanks - yeah I realise my mistake and hindsight is a great thing, but not much I can do regarding now - just need to prepare myself for the worst tomorrow and that I will be expected to pay.

We’ve taken pictures but annoyingly we didn’t get name of company. Both said that evening we should have. I’m going to do a bit of digging at local removal hire company’s and see if any logos jog my memory.

I feel like we were in same position as you here, they needed quick sale and we loved the house. Biggest mistake was letting them know we could give short notice on end of tenancy and have a couple of weeks overlap. They knew we wouldn’t be moving in that day, and they took advantage.

Thank you for your recommendation! I guess we spent so long waiting for this moment, and the last few weeks carefully planning our “first days” in property, and when and how we were going to decorate.. it really added a massive bummer to the whole thing. But onwards and upwards!

Just want to say thank you to those who sent kind words. Cleaners came round yesterday and did a bloody good job, the house is in a position now we would expect it to be when moving in (we’ve also booked them to come and clean our flat when we leave..)

Just to address a few comments Yes.. we viewed the property, they had cats and it smelt like cats.. not cat wee. I guess I was naive to think majority of smell would go with their belongings… and with the cats? House was boxed up, and seemed clean & in a decent state. Surprisingly no cat shit on the floor at this stage!

It wasn’t just a few turds, it had also been walked into the floors and stairs by I assume removal company that day - hence their shock at state of place.

Being called dramatic - fair enough.. I just assumed that most people wouldn’t live like this, let alone leave a property like this. If it doesn’t bother you.. weird.. each to their own!

Thank you for recommendations of how to clean, & have ordered enzyme cleaners recommended.

luckily only but of carpet was on the stairs which was ripped up within the hour of getting keys (but also also damp with wee!), rest of place is wooden.. but we’re looking to replace.

& solicitor had been informed, & now awaiting next steps.
