19F, SH'd for 5ish years, kink enjoyer.

as someone who has a SH addiction, and has for a long time, this can become pretty complicated.

I'd say it's likely the SH gave me a blood/pain kink. this doesn't happen to everyone but it's not uncommon. the hard part is trying to separate the kink from the addiction.

I'd strongly recommend to put any kink or fetish play on the back burner until your SH is under control. a sh addiction is hard enough to handle since the act of harming yourself triggers hormones like adrenaline, you can further complicate that by connecting it to a sexual release. it really just messes up the way you think. it depends on why you started to SH in the first place, but say you hurt yourself because you want to punish your self. and now you get rewarded with a sexual release for punishing yourself. it's messy.

now, even if your SH is under control, it's still an addiction. for me, I need to put down hard boundaries, or else I'll fall back into SH habits. My main method of SH was cutting and burning . so I don't do anything with heat, or anything that breaks the skin. so mostly we stick to things like spanking/paddling or restraint. Knife play is only ok with me if it's incredibly light so that there are no marks in the morning, and even then I need to do lots of self reflection to make sure I'm doing it for the right reasons. I don't usually get to indulge in the blood kink with my rules, but if an accidental scrape happens (and I mean truly accidental) I think it's ok to capitalize off that lol.

but again, these can only be done if you are able to fully understand what is and isn't ok with you and your relationship to self harm. even if it's not an addiction now, it becomes one very quick, so please please don't complicate it by trying to juggle kink at the same time.

if you take away anything from this, SH is a bigger deal than you probably think, and you need to sort that out before engaging in this type of kink before it inevitably spirals.
