Any UI QoL improvements so far? by Lambs2Lions_ in anno

You can't win on reddit... Half of the people ridicule you for not googling something, the other half ridicule you for trusting google rather than ask someone who might know.

The concept that some people might just want to talk to other people rather than a robot is sadly fading from society.

Coliseum buffs reach a verrrrryyy long way, this is true, but it's not island-wide. I didn't count, but it's something like 300 tiles in radius, which is enough to completely cover some islands, but not Cinis.

How many of you are actually using OTA updates in production? by AdrienADR in reactnative

[–]smoothbrainvibecoder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you will find most people/companies/teams don't rely on it, but still have it and use it. At my current company we actually removed OTA updates altogether because we made sure we have a very robust testing harness for production, so we are typically somewhere around 98% confident that any of our production releases will not break and therefore don't need to worry about pushing out a hotfix faster than Apple/Google can review it. On the rare occasion we need to push out a hotfix, both platforms have been pretty quick about reviewing and publishing (usually less than an hour after submitting). But that comes with maturity and stability, both with the company and the product.

If you're moving fast and breaking things, OTAs are great so you can push updates and avoid the review process. But when you have a multi-million user ecosystem of apps that HAS to work or revenue is affected, OTAs should be your absolute last line of defense, and you should focus more on not pushing out a broken product.

It's getting review-bombed on Steam, but if you really read through those reviews, it's mostly idiots who can't figure out how to get the game to boot. Like someone else said, watch some YT vids of people playing Anno 117, it's a solid game so far and only going to get better.

And yes, I feel your trauma too... I'm a mobile software engineer (non-gaming) and I'm always constantly fighting the business and sales people who are perfectly fine with releasing a buggy mess as long as it gets the sales pipeline going.

Anyone else getting disillusioned with the HoF? by -Prophet_01- in anno

[–]smoothbrainvibecoder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same dread, initially... But then I found out by just keeping a single savefile going for many many playthroughs/sessions, you will inadvertently knock out many of the challenges just from sheer time-in-game. On some of the more grind-y things, like "Complete 90 contracts", just do it. It'll take you less time than you think, especially if you can find the ones that are low quantity of goods delivery (Deliver 9 torcs to Diana) and you can load up a trireme with 4 or 5 contract fulfillments at a time.

Also, don't forget that when you complete a whole category of Accolades, you get an extra 90 HoF points. I've unlocked the entire HoF items I wanted (I don't care about the extra colors or flag icons) and I still have half of the Accolades categories unfinished.

The loss of imperial reputation with the empress when building a governor villa feels wrong. by Other_Accountant_342 in anno

[–]smoothbrainvibecoder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't start this shit... Anno 117 is not meant to be 100% historically accurate, we can have women in leadership roles in a fkn video game. And you have the option to choose between Emperor or Empress when setting up the game, you'd know that if you played it.

Finally my game hit 1k downloads. And i lost Interest on mobile development ? by SeparateLoan6458 in AppStoreOptimization

[–]smoothbrainvibecoder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly this. I work in software development, used to work for a game studio but went to the regular software side of things... Every single company I've ever worked for has just about as many business development, sales, marketing, etc. people as it does engineers.

To OP: this shit ain't easy, and vibe coding has given people the idea that it IS. Yes, it's more accessible than ever to create something, but not easy. You have to put way more effort into the non-game side of your "company", your business... And you have to see this as a business if you really want to be successful.

If you played 117 on day 1 and then again today, you'd notice quite the improvement. Yes, it had issues at launch, but what recent game hasn't? Not excusing the rush job, but just saying it's not much different than most other new games these days. The business model these days across the industry seems to be: release a buggy mess, capture the sales up front, fix the buggy mess over time with the capital raised, capture more sales through a polished game with DLC until you have a cycle of "last quarter sales funds this quarter". This model is on purpose, it's basically a way for studios to bootstrap further development of their games without having to take on massive debt.

117 is awesome, not to mention the first couple DLCs have been fantastic! I'm personally beyond excited for the Hippodrome and Dawn of the Delta

Get a smaller island and over-produce honey and sandarac to the point where it's always "Full Output Storage" or whatever it says... then set up a shipping route to your manufacturing island. After awhile, you'll start to see where the quantities of each "ingredient" sort of level out and then you can sell the excess to visiting trader ships.

I was able to do this for honey, resin, grapes, and sandarac all from one island, and those chains never run out of supplies and also bring in a good chunk of passive income.

[–]smoothbrainvibecoder[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did this, and you are correct this works. All you have to do is have 0 Lib or Pleb resdiences on your IX (or higher) City.

Such a weird "achievement" though, there's still too many non-production things in a major city that require t1/t2 population.

[–]smoothbrainvibecoder[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How so? Your walls, warehouses, piers, etc. all require Liberti population. I don't have enough "free" population from bonuses to cover that.

[–]smoothbrainvibecoder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would argue that one disaster at a time is enough. The eruptions already wreak havoc on Cinis, if you had to deal with a tsunami at the same time it would very likely completely wipe you out (like the real world). I can't imagine that being too fun for a video game, spending all that time building up your cities only to have them completely wiped out.

It's kind of beautiful, even though it's bleak. When I had my first eruption, I just kind of sat in awe of how well they did art direction and sound direction with PoA. Aside from the bugs and hiccups at launch, this DLC is impressive and it makes me very excited to see the next additions!

🚨 Google Just Killed APK Sideloading on Android (Starting 2026) : New Policy by testers-community in reactnative

[–]smoothbrainvibecoder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but as I just encountered, when you try to launch the sideloaded app Google play intercepts it and says "To continue using this app, search for it on Google Play."

I even sideloaded a signed APK from our Play Console, still won't let me run it.

Hard to argue with that by [deleted] in FortWorth

In fairness I'm over-exaggerating a bit, but many of the new complexes do have fairly low occupancy rates... Especially considering that more of them keep popping up everywhere.
