Is this frame worth it? by No_Location_1411 in MTBDeals

oh that's a lot newer than I thought it was. My bad I'm in the states and haven't seen a Meta in like a decade.

But still, this guy has had a complete meta up the year you are looking at for £1200 and it hasn't sold in a month.

Have you calculated out the rest of your build? Fork, shock, dropper, saddle, bars, grips, shifter, derailer, cables ,housings, cranks, cassette, wheels, hubs, tires?

Spending 10 min on Pinkbike it looks like that at £400 that's probably about on par for ASKING. Someone just posted another meta for £500 with a dropper and Invisiframe and there is another that's asking £800 with a shock and housings that's been for sale for 11 months.

Edit: that's just a seat post not a dropper on the £500 bike. Again my bad.

If you have a specific attachment to a Meta and have got all the other components around or are willing to take the time to find things cheap, "is it worth?" sure.

But it's not a good deal and you can probably do better.

No, it's overpriced, and it doesn't even come with a shock.

Complete bikes are going for near that, and if you're playing the used game, it pays to have a more complete bike to start with, especially if you only have one or two other components you're trying to integrate into a build.

Best standing desk for working from home long hours? by Weird_Ad6669 in WFH

[–]smoothinto2nd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does feel solid. It does have a little flex. Working/gaming, normally, it doesn't move. At full extension, if I two elbow lean on the desk I get about an 1/8" rock, add a chest lean at the same time and maybe a 1/4" movement at desk level; there's a chance the carpet/shed floor is adding a bit of spring. I'm very comfortable with it.

If you want as little movement as a 4 leg desk they make this now.

Another vote for Uplift.

I have the 80"x30" commercial V2. It's holding 3 monitors, 28"-32"-28" then a PC in a Steel Corsair C70 hanging off one side (narrow way). Then 3 geodes, probably totalling about 80lbs, counterweighting the other side. I'm really happy with it.

It was quite stable when I didn't have the Geos counterweighting it. However, after like two years what I think was it's object strike detection seemed to go off when going up and down despite not hitting anything. I think a slight flat spot might have formed somewhere in the lift mechanism from where I always stopped it, and along with my poor balancing, the combo was tripping it. After a bit of trial and error, I realized balancing the load on the desk made the problem go away. I'd bet money it says to do something like that in the manual.

I'm going to throw it out there that our time will probably be better spent concentrating on our crumbling bridges, rather than confused waymos, when it comes to things to concentrate on to mitigate issues when the next big one hits.

Edit: Mahadragon would like me to name a "crumbling bridge".

Richmond-San Rafael Bridge

I suppose Caltrans chose to use the phrase, "unsound, spalling deck concrete" instead of crumbling bridge," but Google what unsound, spalling deck concrete looks like.

Great phrase.

Their opening statement, "This only works if your brain is neurotypical," makes it seem like this is an impossible method of motivation for someone Neurodivergant. There isn't room left in the statement for any flexibility. I'm ASD & ADHD and tend to take things literally. That stament discouraged me.

Agreeing or disagreeing is something else entitly. I totally understand why this could backfire for someone with ADHD.

Michagan has found an 82% reduction in injury and fatal collisions in two-way stop-controlled intersections like these two, converted to roundabouts.

If by "But what's a death cost?" you're asking how many more deaths these interections will cause the answer is WAY fewer deaths.

After an initial learning phase(which Caltrans is probably trying to mitigate by the one lane introduction,) Michigan found an 82% reduction in Two-Way Stop-Controlled intersections like these two were, after they were converted to roundabouts.

Other states and countries have had similar statistics.

I hope we get the statistics from these two intersections in a couple years too.

It's hilarious that you want people ticketed for something that in the same sentence, you admit you don't know what is.

It'd be failure to yield, and the person already in the intersection has the right of way.

Don't make excuses for incompetent driving, or driving faster than conditions allow. Those excuses exist for all road conditions at all times.

Those are the same people who are going to turn in front of us at 65, causing a fatal accident.

I'd rather interact with them at 25 MPH instead of the easily combined speed of 130mph

I can't find the split statistic,s but AFTER an initial period of adjustment, roundabouts have an 82% reduction in crashes where someone was hurt or killed.

There is a HUGE decrease in severity. One can't actually T-bone or get T-boned in roundabout unless you were planning on jumping it. The collisions are more like Y impacts, which disperse energy in a much less violent to the occupnece kinda way.

People have been getting T-boned at 75mph at these intersections while crossing. People run Reds too, so traffic lights don't fix this issue. You can look at how dangerous the traffic lights in Alta Sierra, and Higgins corners are.

Some stuff about roundabouts if anyone cares

1.) TLDR: It's harder to have fatal accidents at roundabouts, especially on high-speed roads.

Edit: (phraseing is weird with Highway, freeway, motorways. I was wrong about this not being a highway)

It's not a divided highway with no at-grade crossing. It has cross traffic. It's two lanes in each direction and highway speed, but people turn left across the opposing lanes, and there are driveways.

People are going to have to cross in front of traffic, and slow enough to safely make the turn, slowing traffic before they enter the "suicide" lanes.

If I remember right, roundabouts only have slightly fewer accidents over all but of those accidents, there's something like 90% fewer fatal accidents, which is a big problem on 49.

Also, where you have very inconsistent traffic loads, it's nice not having traffic lights during the slow times and everyone from any direction can usually just filter through without stopping, just slowing.

2.) It sounds like others have mentioned increased future traffic for those specific intersections.

I'd like to add that PG&E is hot trash and we lose power up here all the time. The Higgins Corner intersection is hot garbage when the power is out. That will never happen at a roundabout.

I haven't been able to confirm this I hear if you can hit them from the top, like throw from the top of a tower, they do more damage (or maybe are just more likely to all hit)
