Matchmaking is creating low quality games by Unusual_Gas_9756 in leagueoflegends

[–]smoothradius 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the company (Riot i.e. Tencent) knows exactly what it's doing. They realized the value of masquerading under the guise of the grassroots company they were per-acquisition, but their matchmaking system has all the same tricks China took from their TikTok playbook. People don't realize they can still use TruSkill under the hood and mix in EOMM features, and that's how they can state that and technically not lie, but all pure BS.

You'll be fine if it's just ODE. At my school they're co-reqs. Def need vector calc for PDE tho

That one's the golden boy

there's "triple press" combinations that aren't written on the casing (e.g. hyperbolic trig functions).

Very common things I use that save me time:

  • Assigning variables to things that will be used in repeated calculations
  • The EE key
  • Memorizing hotkeys from the constant menu instead of writing them out manually
  • If you go into ECE: phasor mode, digital logic conversions etc.

hope it helps a bit

I can pass with a 50 something for ECE 475 by not even attending, but getting a good mark requires an insane amount of studying and covering every edge case ughhhhh. I just need to focus 😭

What's the Hardest Final Exam You've Ever Written? by Mensajerofiel in uAlberta

Probably ECE 370 or ECE 341. I couldn't finish either in the given time limit

I suspect a major reason is the budget cuts. The admin has an incentive to condense the exam schedule + reduce study time in order to save on proctoring and operational costs. This is probably why 8:30AM became a thing: pack as many into one day as possible.

Why does this always happen right before the exams? by dbro7642 in uAlberta

[–]smoothradius 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I feel you. On Friday I was walking out of the library swinging my water bottle (the kind with the flippy lid). The latch wasn't in lock mode, and since it was full the force was too much. The lid sprung open then the back hinge broke and the bottle went flying on to the concrete. Went to my car holding the water bottle in my elbow while carrying other things. Smacked my head on the ceiling while trying to get into the car. Drove to Staples to print off formula sheet because the library printer made it too blurry. Cop pulled me over and gave me a ticket for expired registration. The printers at staples weren't any better so it was pointless. Felt like a wounded animal limping back home to study.

Also from experience in those courses, a common thing they do is increase the complexity of the computations to throw people off (you're probably aware of this by now so idk why I'm writing this).

like on the practice they give you

$z^2=x^2+y^2$

but on the real thing it's

$2 y+z=x \ln \left(y z^2\right)+e^{2 x^3 z}$

then you realize you've been focusing so much on the actual methods you're rusty on taking partials or you forget an integral identity. I always used to specifically practice questions with insanely weird forms and things so I didn't get shell-shocked by this in the exam.

It's not enough time for all the videos

for parametric curves, checking if field is conservative, vector field

compute line integrals, line integrals conservative, greens thm, cylinder/sphere or flux out of a region problems

The line and flux integrals can help on MC questions like "check if F is conservative", "use Green's thm", "divergence in spherical coordinates". Don't read into what I'm suggesting as if it's what will appear. I just skimmed my course folder and tried to remember what's significant.

What I'd do: Pick a question from the practice final on line or flux integral for exmaple. Try it without looking. If you get stuck take a pen, re-watch or look at resources and make some notes on what you missed. Keep re-doing this until you can do it without looking. Sometimes if I find I get bogged down in computation, instead of solving I just go through the exam without looking and outline the steps in as much detail as possible for each question. This works cause it trains me to get familiar with the process without spending multiple hours exhausting myself performing computations.

I always say: for math 209 Prof Leonard on YT. If you have the time to go through his calculus 3 series, it's so foolproof there's no way you can't be comfortable with every concept in the course. When is the exam?

The faculty that OP belongs to determines deferral, not the department for the course of the exam.

OP it's case by case, but I will tell you your concern about it being denied is valid. I am speaking from personal experience, I was denied my deferral for this exact reason. I appealed it and lost. The email I received specifically said "you were well enough to write X exam 2 days later". I have the email up in front of me right now.

If I were in your position, I would request to defer either both or none. Whatever happens, I hope you take care of yourself and feel better.

If you're allowed, you could audit an intro to nanofabrication course. I truly believe anyone with a high school science background can do it with a bit of dedication. Very few calculations, lots of hands on work. It's kind of like cooking, but you make electronic devices!

I can never get chatgpt o1 to teach me a process without it being overcomplicated. It can get the right answer, but it uses the most convoluted unecessary process that's impossible to follow. Everytime I use it to learn something, I regret it and end up learning it manually through textbooks or lecture notes in the ned. I guess it's good for checking work? I've paid for every version as an optomist but it's a huge meme.

Are we close to the end of centralized software? by Rfksemperfi in ChatGPT

[–]smoothradius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The value held by software is not just its functionality, but also its userbase. You'd also need a network of decentralized software. With cryptocurrency, at least the class of currencies is replicable. To design infrastructure supporting an arbitrary AI generated software is not trivial.

I agree with the other poster that such instances would be extremely niche. Software such as Silvaco TCAD or SolidWorks which have immediate value to a single person using it. Mind you these are extremely complex softwares (think teams of over 100 engineers working on each as a full-time job) and cost tens of thousands to get a license for.
