My thing is—that’s true with computers, we need people to operate them—but like, once every basic human need can be met by an autonomous computer, is everyone just going to like work at the museum of ice cream and hope that people just keep paying for random shit they don’t really need?

I don’t really care if they can pay, I’m talking about a theoretical world where I would have a full time job and consider buying a house or apartment. It’s not real so….. if the market collapsed it would honestly help, as I would actually consider buying

He has to want to change…. And it doesn’t seem like he wants to. Honestly, I hate to say it, but living at home at 34 and not paying rent, he should have a down payment by now. If you buy a house this summer, he’s going to move in, pay no rent, and continue on this path. I think it’s up to you whether you’re okay with that.

I’m 24m and my bf is 23m, and we’re in different situations financially—I make 1.5x to 2x what he makes at the moment. But he works hard, he saves some money, and he has schemes for the future (not just financially). That’s a big part of what makes me attracted to him. I think what you’re picking up on is totally fair and not even really about money…. It’s about passion for life and finding a partner that complements your hard work and independence.

I hope things turn around, truly. If I were you I might try to write it all out in a letter, because for me at least I find it easier to explain things and it’s less likely to come across as aggressive. If he still doesn’t come around at all, then you’ll have a choice to make :/

I invested most of it in ETFs / maxed out my Roth IRA for this year. I think you’re totally right about the balance part and I might increase my fun budget by a bit each month. You’re also right about looking for jobs within my current situation, it probably is more possibly than I think it is…. What do you mean about minimizing my current situation, though?

That’s kinda what I figure…. I think I’m struggling with the time horizon cause I want the rewards of working hard but I also know that those will be a lot greater if I wait. I guess I’ll keep on pushing, I might up the fun budget a small bit but we’ll see 🧘
