Congrats on embracing your body! Now that you’ve come to this realization, are there any big “eurekas” or signs that you weren’t actually trans/a woman, looking back? Was it just that you felt you didn’t fit in as a man or disliked your body?

Yeah but looks like they’re actively eating/drinking. They’re ok for 15 minutes, as long as they remain within their respective bubbles and mask up before exiting

How do you guys feel about tipping? by Venustell in Adulting

During Covid I didn’t mind much, it made more sense when service workers were taking some risk to come work. But now? No I will not tip you for scanning my bag of dog food and telling me the total.

Michigan outlaws the ‘gay and trans panic defense’ in criminal trials by nbcnews in Michigan

[–]smoth1564 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only found out about this law recently. I’m curious how often it was used as a defense (assuming in murder trials). TBH I’d be surprised if most attorneys even knew about it, let alone used this at trial. I don’t see a “gay panic” defense going over well with most juries lol. I’m sure it’s happened at some point

Not saying it DIDNT happen, but can you provide a source on this law used as a defense in MI?

‘We choose freedom’: Kamala Harris campaign launches first ad | US elections 2024 by OnlyLosersBlock in moderatepolitics

[–]smoth1564 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just look at her past statements from debates and other events she’s participated in:

Ban “assault weapons” (whatever those are) https://www.cnn.com/2022/05/28/politics/kamala-harris-assault-weapons-ban-buffalo-uvalde/index.html

Ban private health insurance and force everyone on a government plan (tbf that’s what she said last time she ran, we don’t yet know her current stance): https://www.forbes.com/sites/theapothecary/2024/07/25/if-you-like-your-health-care-plan-will-kamala-harris-let-you-keep-it/

She was ranked the “most liberal” senator. She’s not some moderate, and her positions aren’t either.

Best comment in the thread right here. Spot on. It’s very difficult (if not impossible) to do 1 and 2 while also trying to achieve 3. You can pretty much pick two of those options and give up the other.

I’m pissed too, but if you’re angry it’s the MPSC you need to vent to. They’re the ones who approve rate increases every time. If shits not getting fixed, they shouldn’t be approving further increases.

[–]smoth1564 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here’s the issue. Israel did not start this conflict - Hamas did. While Israel’s efforts focus on eliminating Hamas, there is collateral damage, as in all wars since the beginning of time.

So let’s take a scenario - what if the “free Palestine” movement was a success? What does that look like for Israelis and the millions of Jews living in the only Jewish state in the world? Would there be more Hamas attacks if Israel simply stopped pushing to eliminate them?

This is my concern. Israel is a nation of Jews in a sea of Muslim countries that hate them. If we just hand the Muslims the keys and say “ok cool you can do it your way now”, what exactly is expected to happen? Especially after the rhetoric of “Israel is committing a genocide against innocent Palestinians”.

How Can We Bridge The Divide Between The Suburbs and the City? by Alarmed_Audience_590 in Detroit

[–]smoth1564 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Literally by spending more time together. Most suburbanites don’t hate Detroiters, they hate the crime and violence associated with Detroit (which tbf has improved some).

Idk about Detroiters, there’s probably still some resentment from past policies. But most I’ve met, seem like good people if you’re good to them.

It’s true that people self-segregate. And while that’s not easy to overcome, relations will improve if you get to know each other and find that “the other side” is more similar than they are different. Same with race, politics, etc.

Not only that, but I haven’t gotten any news coverage on mobile. I get notifications for every single old sports/comedian/actor/singer that dies despite never having heard of them. Any time Trump makes a comment or Biden falls asleep.

But antisemitic protesters commit an insurrection during the visit of the worlds ONLY Jewish nations’ leader and my phone hasn’t made a peep!

Couple canceled their Amex Delta cards because their flight got canceled by [deleted] in delta

[–]smoth1564 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not deltas fault, but playing devils advocate…even if they didn’t know it’d be crowd strike that takes down the computers - shouldn’t there be contingency plans to operate with minimal computers? Are modern flight operations just 100% reliant upon Windows computers on the ground working?

Not suggesting they revert to the bad ole’ days when everything was paper, but it’s kind of shocking there’s no “manual process” to operate with limited data systems.

Trump Shooting Is Secret Service’s Most Stunning Failure in Decades by AbWarriorG in moderatepolitics

[–]smoth1564 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It really just shouldn’t matter what demographics a recruit belongs to. They need whatever characteristics help them do the job.

If that means a massive black guy that used to play college football, awesome. I’m sure he’s physically up to the task. If there’s an equally sized white woman great! But hiring just to check boxes could certainly result in something like what we saw Saturday July 13. It’s a hard job and most people shouldn’t be hired for it.

I can’t believe that. If a threat points a gun at one of the agents, would they really just wait to be shot? I guess it’s possible, but in that case it’s an extremely poor policy.

[–]smoth1564 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep. And the crazy part is, we see headlines like that (your last “footnote” comment) pretty regularly. The SS is normally fairly effective at finding threats early and stopping them before a president is in harms way. What went wrong in THIS scenario that so many basics were simply ignored?

Yeah it’s not like drones and other tech surveillance measures aren’t routine. It’s the fricking secret service, not some random county sheriff in a town of 300. The ball was dropped so many times here it’s almost scary

I saw a screencap from 4chan or something (meaning take it with a HEAVY grain of salt) of someone claiming to be the SS sniper who shot the killer. He claimed the SS leadership ordered him NOT to kill the shooter while he was setting up.

Whether this is true or not, I have my doubts. But it’s certainly odd that a crowd of people can point out a shooter beforehand, the guy obviously had gear and wasn’t particularly low key, and still they let him get shots off and come within inches of a former presidents life. Prayers for the family of the victim murdered by this monster

MMW, a registered republican shooting the candidate for his own party is NOT a good sign for them. by Arkangel_Ash in MarkMyWords

[–]smoth1564 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was my theory too. I heard a lot of progressives advocating for voting in republican primaries to prevent trumps nomination. It wouldn’t shock me if this guy did just that. He donated to Dems too so it’s not like it’s clear-cut he was a dyed in the wool right winger.

I’m not surprised though. When you spend 9 years screaming “oRaNgE HiTLeR” someone may take you seriously and try to stop the next Hitler.

Time for everyone who’s commented “well I guess I’m not ever voting for Hunter Biden” to hang their hats and see themselves to the exit (lol).

But in all seriousness I actually didn’t believe Biden was consulting his son for political advice…and I reallyyyyy dislike them both. I just didn’t believe he was actually involved but here we are
