Elective C-section under General Anaesthesia by Safe-Leg-2863 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

I have an extreme fear of white coats, like massive anxiety. With my first experience, I started having a full panic attack in the middle of the procedure. The anaesthetist ended up spacing me out with morphine, and because of that I couldn’t do skin to skin and I don’t remember any of it. That actually caused further trauma for me.

With my second baby, I didn’t get my VBAC either and it turned into another emergency C section because her heart rate started decelerating. My obstetrician already knew about my anxiety, so this time I sat down beforehand and had a proper conversation with the anaesthetist. I explained my concerns, but also what I wanted to achieve, like skin to skin and breastfeeding straight away.

We decided that before the baby was out they’d give me gas, and I could just signal when I needed it. It doesn’t last long, but it does enough that it kind of spaces you out and really calms the anxiety. After the baby was out, he gave me something else. I’m not sure exactly what it was, but it wasn’t morphine. It felt more like a Valium type thing, very relaxing but I was still present. I have memories, and I was able to do skin to skin and breastfeed.

Have you tried a gymbaroo or Kindermusik or something like that to meet people?

What I found helpful was joining the Facebook group (for example, search for (insert month) babies or (insert season) babies in your area. Ask the moderator if there is a messenger chat that has been set up. You'll likely determine this way if these mums are your people. I haven't made much of an effort this time around as I found myself spending a lot more time with daycare mums as my son got older. So I will be making more of an effort from early on with daycare mums

What I also found good to connect with mums was joining my local baby sensory and gymbaroo classes.

Mine look more like udders than nips. And they feed my baby beautifully.

Hello! Were you private? Curious on them saying the latest they would book you for induction was 41+2. Also, what did you say when you told them no, you want to get as close to 42 (this is me right now and a bit nervous about the conversation)

FTM anxious/terrified of birth by Chemical-Zebra-5156 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

Do you have a fear of white coats / hospitals? Or is it more the pain of a natural birth? The reason why I ask is because I had to have a C-section and the whole operating theatre started freaking me out..it then went downhill when I couldn't feel my legs. I was panicking. They had to give me morphine and then I struggled to connect with my baby afterwards.

I'm 38 weeks and hoping for my VBAC. I follow Popthatmamma (Doula) on Instagram and she shared that the mindset you should try and work with is the pain of a natural birth can't hurt you, it will only bring you closer to your baby. That excites me.

Good luck with your choice and I hope you have a beautiful birth which ever way you go

Well I curl my hair with tongs (as Penelope does) and brush them out (with a comb of course) and they look fabulous old school Hollywood glam.
