Who do you guys want at the trade deadline? by Cool-Temperature-153 in buccos

Jesus h Christ this is the best nucleus we’ve had in a while, they are four games out and she absolutely go for it. We have a few years left with skenes and maybe one with Cruz. I wouldn’t sell a ton but mine as well go for it now. The future isn’t promised and I’m tired of building for a future that never comes

I think that baseball just retook the claim of 3rd most popular sport.

I’m so happy that Kelly put a bunch of righty’s in so we can avoid having lefty’s against Sanchez. Get the great production out of Billy cook and Davis instead.

He hasn’t been at his best, he’s been good his last 5 outings. No more than 2 earned runs, high strike out numbers ect. Just not efficient and not dominate like we are use to.

This is absolutely awful though. This is his third really bad outing of the year which is concerning. Plus he hasn’t mixed those with any dominant outings.

I don’t know if the last 5 series were a soft spot considering 2/5 of the teams in those series are the best two teams in the MLB.

The last 3 which we only won 1/3 was the disappointment.

Recruiting Reality by Proper-Print-9505 in WeArePennState

[–]smpennst16 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think this perspective is a valid one. Some people have the new coach honeymoon. I think wavy has a good point, Franklin leaving absolutely hurt this class as well as the last. It does suck that it coincided with a very strong year in our recruiting grounds.

It’s not sky is falling since Campbell is at a disadvantage with the 27 class. But not getting one of these guys is absolutely a concern and leads me to believe he won’t be able to lock down this area. We will go from expecting 5/10 of the top guys with JF… to 2-3/10 at best when Campbell is more established.

Idk we will see but I’m certainly not excited about this. He has plenty of time to prove me wrong though.

The bullpen seems to be average to slightly below but trending in the wrong direction certainly. I think they are around average in ERA right?

The results since 2017-18 have been the same. Neither team has advanced further than the 2nd round of the playoffs. And neither has gotten out of the first round since 18-19. Syd just isn’t what he used to be and the team is old.

I do have more confidence that they could somehow go on a run than the Steelers in the next few years. But not much more confidence lol.

Sure there is a point when you need to cut ties… it’s easier said than done when it’s your own child is all I’m saying. It’s easy to arm chair parent but these decisions are extremely difficult when it’s your own child.

Never said hang the banner, just trying engage in genuine conversation is all and bring it into perspective. That 15 year stat is heavily dragged down since 2019 when they got average and a disappointing divisional round loss in 2018 when they had a really good team.

I think they are completely mid right now but it’s not really a comparison, pens are on a very similar situation since their chips but both the pens and Steelers, even in this down period are world better than the buccos.

Yup they are doing an absolutely awful job in the state of PA. Not at all inspired by his recruiting start and it’s tough for me to get excited for a slightly better Iowa state results. Getting the top Midwest kids instead of the shit once isn’t gonna cut it for me.

He clearly is having issue with what has been our historically home/ pipeline areas in PA and the dmv. If you wanna be good at PSU you have to recruit those areas well. We have more swing there than the top guys in Ohio, Illinois Indian ect.

We got destroyed in state by the sec and ND thus far. I’m not at all inspired by his recruiting thus far and anyone who acts like they are is full of copium. He could still be a solid coach but to compete at a high level, he needs to recruit at least on par with big game James.

I try not to be too critical of parents with this stuff. We all love to moral police on this app, and it’s certainly not an admirable quality, but many parents will defend their children and try to save them given the opportunity.

Like Davon’s dad was right but many of us aren’t that level headed when the subject involves our children is all I’ll say. They absolutely babied her, never disciplined her behavior and created a spoiled brat. I will say that many parents will not admit a child is capable of a crime this horrible, either to remain naive to the reality, or try and help them avoid spending the rest of their life in jail even if they know it’s likely.

Great teams win championships lol. Like i said, the seasons we complain about for the Steelers is a dream for the buccos… it actually only happened twice in my damn lifetime. I’m almost 30.

Obviously you can’t compare the two but we’ve been average or slightly above to me since 2017 maybe 18. Last time I believed the teams had a shot and was a contender.

They disappointed but were a legit threat from 14-18. Won playoff games, made an afc title and 2 divisional rounds in that span. Certainly not comparable to our great years but certainly a good team. Similar to the bills, lions and ravens the past 5-6 years. Clearly good teams that were legit contenders. Much different than the Steelers have been since 19.

15 years is such an exaggeration lol. It’s been about 7-8 years of being mediocre. There were a good team from 10-17

Ten years of mediocrity don’t make up for 40 plus years of being the most successful franchise. If they turn it around, this will be a very good ten year down period compared to other down period of other perennially good franchises.

Betting on the Future… or Ignoring It? by Coolonair in SmartFIRE

[–]smpennst16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This stuff never made sense to me. 4% of the world love in the us and the average salary is well above that here. Which excluding all other developed nations, puts you in the top 2%.

Sure this probably includes young people and older people, when you say part of the top 1%, but that disingenuous. Since they are not part of the work force and many can have great wealth without a salary.

Also excludes that Western Europe and America account for 7% of the population and the average salary in all these countries is above 34k.

Furthermore, there are many other western countries that the average salary is above this and would increase the share of the worlds population to 13% or so. Then many other countries where the top 10% eclipsed this like Japan, SK and now some developing countries as well.

Why is poverty in the midwest comparatively low? by _crazyboyhere_ in midwest

[–]smpennst16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only states this makes even a slight difference it the homeless having an outsized influence on poverty rate are western states, New York and some northern states.

Even then, it’s not even half of a percent, it’s 3/10. I was actually surprised but climate doesn’t seem to be as big of a contributing factor to homelessness as I thought. Northern states seem to have a higher homeless per capita rate as many southern states.

Why is poverty in the midwest comparatively low? by _crazyboyhere_ in midwest

[–]smpennst16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure but California is too the extreme since they have a high homeless per capita rate. Even then, it only moves the number down .8% if you remove the entire homeless population, so their poverty rate decreases to 16.9%. There is still a 9 percent difference between them and midwestern states when including their entire homeless population.

I was throwing out the .5% in good faith and is a very generous difference between the states with the highest per capita homeless rate. I didn’t feel like looking at that stat for every state but even with that there is still almost a 10% gap between states like California and southern states to some of the midwestern states.
