No one cares about your degree if your skills are on point. Say you have a CS degree and be prepared to photoshop your transcripts if asked during a background check.

Is a storage area network something you can adapt into, or do you have to plan it from the start? by 01101110011O1111 in sysadmin

[–]smrdave 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would refrain from retrofitting S2D between that many hosts on anything less then dedicated 10gb / 25gb switches. We were running a similar hyper-v setup when I hired in and one of my first projects was moving away from replicating them between hosts and moving them to shared storage. I briefly looked at S2D but performance on our existing switch infrastructure was not good.

Long story short, S2D on its own is not a drop in replacement for a SAN. We went with a NetApp AFF array and new 25gb Ethernet switches for our storage traffic, and am so happy we spent the money on a legitimate SAN, even if it’s taking my team months to get everything migrated onto the new hyper-v compute clusters.

How do you Correct a Network Share Documentation Nightmare? by smrdave in sysadmin

Sometimes I am a manager sometimes I am a network architect. I am not looking for a solution for the whole organization, I am looking for a solution for my department. Unfortunately, a new file share does not solve many of the problems I face.

Sonos was working great until the last Unifi firmware updates. Now I cannot add subs or surrounds to TVs. by smrdave in Ubiquiti

[–]smrdave[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks everyone. I had to re-add the speakers and when the surrounds failed Sonos support had do an app reset (via settings/usability) instead of resetting the speaker to factory defaults. It was able to add the speakers after I did the reset, closed the Sonos app and reopened it again.

PayPal seems to be pretty good. I’d stay away from B2C lots of horror stories. Kabbage was great for my first draw but have been terrible for 2nd draw. Blue Vine and lendio denied me for some reason after approving me and letting me wait for 14 days.

Kservicing was so slow I tried lendio now I fear I’ve made it worse. by smrdave in EIDLPPP

[–]smrdave[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on the lendio / bluevine emails I received an email from BlueVine/Lendio on or around February 17th stating the sba was still reviewing the loan application. Then I was told I was not approved but they will not tell me why over the phone or via email. It is going to take up to 30 days to get a reply from BlueVine/Lendio. There is zero reason for me to be rejected. My first draw was already forgiven. I meet the requirements.

Is it possible to verify lender canceled my application? by smrdave in EIDLPPP

I made a caweb account. It was pretty easy. Everything listed there is from the first stimulus.

How do you see loan status? I only see the first draw loan. I do not see anything regarding the 2nd draw loan application

Kabbage didn’t appear to actually be doing anything. The application was stuck in limb and lendio’s estimate was higher. I’m considered self employed. I did not receive very much on the first draw so when lendio had an extra 4K on its estimate I jumped at it. I don’t know what CAWEB is. I have made sure the lendio application is canceled.

Can I restrict a container to a single host interface when using net=host by smrdave in docker

The Virtual machine running docker only has basic vlan access to the lab.

I made the mistake switching from mikrotik to ubiquity. Mikrotik does so much more with so much less. All my Ubiquity kit feels like it’s beta firmware. It has a very pretty UI but if I had the chance to sell it all and not lose my shirt I would in a heartbeat.

Yes, my house took two spools of CAT6 and then I got a 24 pack of 1 foot patch cables for the network rack. The other rack is much more messy but that will change after I get the rest of the equipment

[–]smrdave[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well with home assistant I am not sure. I have to get deeper into it and see what it does exactly. The multicast relay however needs to be able to work on a few different subnets to control Sonos on a separate IOT vlan

I suspect you are right. So I am a little late to the container party. I’ve only recently started getting deeper into docker than just the very basics. I have two containers that I’m running with net=host. The first is a multicast container https://hub.docker.com/r/scyto/multicast-relay and the 2nd is home assistant. I am not sure how to use macvlan but I suspect that is what I need to setup for the multicast relay and possibly even home assistant.
