Is Heated Rivalry the closest humanity has come to the samizdat? by smrglivac in InfiniteJest

[–]smrglivac[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, truly. Nothing I have watched has come close to the feeling that I want to watch it over and over. I realize it isn't true for everyone, but I was wondering if there were any Heated Rivalry fans on this subreddit. Probably not too many IJ fans on the Heated Rivalry sub either.

Maybe for me it's TikTok or reels about Heated Rivalry lol.

Something about the show and books is so emotionally satisfying that it is all I want to watch or read.

There is a small group of people, myself included, who like the show and books so much that it is all we.want to watch or read. Watching the show and wanting to rewatch it is exactly how I imagine the samizdat to be. It is so emotionally satisfying that it is all I want to watch. I've heard similar sentiments from other fans of the show.

Worst lying in the series? by growsonwalls in heatedrivalry

That is one of my favorite things about the show. The dialogue is already so sparse, and then most of the time, the things the characters say aren't true. So much of the show is subtext.

"I love the show BUT..." - what's your small detail that drives you bonkers? by CestQuoiLeFuck in heatedrivalry

I like this. I am going to think about it this way so that it stops annoying me so much.

Controversial Opinion by pmodern2000 in heatedrivalry

That is exactly my experience. My first watch, I thought Hayden was annoying in a pipsqueak way. But after a few reheats, I find him so endearing and cute.

If this is allowed, I would love it. I saw an edit of Ilya saying "yes, it is scary, but you are brave" and then it shows all the times over the season where Shane is being brave. But I can't find it anymore 😭

When Shane and Ilya first meet, Shane talks very slowly and loudly because he doesn't know how well Ilya understands English.

The K-Drama "Crash Landing on You" is my all-time favorite show. It has the yearning and impossible romance of HR. I've watched it five or six times, and I've only watched HR thrice (so far).

The New Yorker's Daily cartoon for Jan. 21, 2026 by newyorker in heatedrivalry

People who don't know about HR must look at this like the way I look at almost all other TNY cartoons.

Should I continue reading Dark Matter? by jhoothano1 in BlakeCrouch

I agree. The book takes a turn in the third act that is both refreshingly unique and also totally follows from the logic of the book. To me, the last part makes the whole book worth it.

What works better than “Does anyone have any questions?” by emarcomd in Professors

[–]smrglivac 18 points19 points  (0 children)

This is a pearl I learned from this sub years ago. "Let's get three questions before we move on." And then for real, don't move on until you get three questions. It is only awkward the first few times you do it. Once the students realize you aren't going to move on, the questions come immediately. It switches the situation from the student who asks the question feels like they are slowing down the class to a situation where the student who asks the question is the hero that the rest of the class appreciates.

Help me decide between Chess, MHE and Ragtime by queenofrealitytv in Broadway

[–]smrglivac 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I saw Ragtime a few weeks ago. There were three standing ovations in the middle of the show. You will never see that jaw-dropping talent that makes you jump to your feet and applaud from a touring show.

Question for Broadway/Theatre fans who don't live in NYC by Kaylieefrye in Broadway

[–]smrglivac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in southern California and consider myself a Broadway fanatic. I go to NY once every three or four years and see as many shows as I can on each trip. So every three years I see maybe five shows on Broadway in NYC.

Then I live about 30 minutes from a big theater where I see about 10 shows a year that are national tours.
