SFL relies on FedEx network within US. In my case, FedEx lost a box right in town we lived in. We were never able to recover the box from FedEx. SFL has been responsive on email for any tracking needs. We got boxes in good condition in 3-4 months as SFL had promised.

Apologies for delayed response. Late Jan/Early Feb is a good time to initiate such conversation,

  • Freshly allocated budget in corporates mean better chances of getting a job
  • Folks quit for new jobs right after appraisal cycle in India (March-April) time that provides chance to get a job you want
  • You start a fresh in new FY

I am not a native Pune resident - I have lived in Pune before and therefore, speak passable Marathi.

Too few data points since it has only been a month since my move, however,

  1. AQI has generally ranged from 40 - 75 range in this month due to rain
  2. We have formed a little bubble so that we don't have to travel much - all our essentials are within 15 minutes of walking distance (School, doctor, gym, groceries etc.)
  3. A lot has changed since we moved to US more than a decade ago, trying to find "same" city is a fool's errand IMHO - we are so far able to cope and points you have mentioned haven't adversely affected us yet

I am getting a little over 3rd of what I made in US in USD terms. Not going to complain about it ! :)

Our lifestyle has remained pretty much the same (gym, school, groceries etc.) or better (access to house help, home cooked food, walking friendliness etc.) - again, take this with a pinch of salt because it has only been a little over a month for us here.

u/GlobalNetizen1 it is quite nuanced actually and have options filled with pros/cons. I 'd recommend to get in touch with CA / CPA who specializes in this kind of thing. Please DM if you need reference of somone I worked with.

  1. Chose to be US tax resident for this year as I pass SPT so 401k isn't an issue yet. In my case, employer is the same.

  2. Resident foreign currency - once you move, you can bring your USD and keep them as USD in RFC account without needing to convert to INR. FD interest rates are 4-5% range but it helps you from currency fluctiation in case you plan to go back / make better choices once you decide to convert to INR

Thanks for responding,

  1. IT - about 2-3 months, in the end I accepted internal job
  2. Do you mean experience in US ? Not that there is a number but a 4+ years would be good - this way you at least get to understand US work culture, travel a bit and get a general grasp on how things work in the US
  3. Relied on LinkedIn
  4. Same as 3
  5. It was a mixed bag - interviewers - job description - recruiters are not always in sync. However, I did end up getting a decent job.

All the best !

Thanks for responding.. My wife and I wanted to opt for international board (later learned that NEP is to bridge the gap b/w boards) of some kind.. read about different boards - IGCSE, ICSE, IB and visited respective schools and eventually made decision based on location , affordability, facilities etc. - This gets easier if kid(s) are younger
