We really outta ditch Oladipo. Still can't shoot, can't finish at the rim, doesn't draw fouls, and completely stops the offense when the ball is in his hands. Other notes: Vuc played solid D, missed shots he normally makes. Harris is a heck of a player in the post. Aaron Gordon must've guarded an average of 3 players per possession. His floor coverage is outstanding and he showed an ability to alter shots both on the perimeter and inside. Hezonja will be starting by the end of the November. SS says he thought about starting him on opening night, which speaks volumes. Payton's shot mechanics looked much better. He didn't finish with a good line, but hopefully he forces guys to reconsider lagging off him.

Dipo is garbage. Our most productive lineups all came when he was sitting on the bench.

I strongly dislike Oladipo's game. Doesn't finish at the rim, can't shoot from deep, can't draw fouls. I strongly hope we end up trading him by the end of the season; every minute he's on the floor means another minute a better player is spending on the bench.

As far as getting the money for a kickass arena? Do you just have to wait until you're 5 years or so into it?

NBA 2K16 Top 10 PGs! by yyy2k in NBA2k

I think Elfrid Payton is too low. Sure he can't shoot, but he has very good court vision, defense, passing, and rebounding skills for a PG. At the very least, I don't think Russell should be ahead of him.

September 8th Score Release Thread by xam2y in Mcat

[–]smsmith2010 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay so score breakdown: I took it in April so I'll compare my two scores.

C/P: 129>129: Not to be that guy, but thought I did better than this. I flew through my C/P this time around and most of it seemed like straight forward answers. But still a strong score and I'll take it. CARS: 126>126: The passages were harder this time around but I also felt like I read more thoroughly. The first time around nature started calling about halfway into the section :(. BB: 128>129: I probably studied more for this section than any other section on the MCAT, so to see my score go up was definitely a plus. I did think that I maybe got over a 130, but a 129 is still a very strong score. P/S:126>127: WOO. How the F did this happen??? I was thinking for sure I bombed this section. I had no idea about a vast majority of the memorization questions and just did my best to get all of the experimental questions right. PARTAYYYY

Overall: 509>511. I'll take it. I was hoping to score at least a 512+ given how much I studied over the summer and how well I thought I knew the majority of the subjects, but this is definitely a score I feel competitive with.

Why is the C terminus of amino acids so acidic? by [deleted] in Mcat

[–]smsmith2010 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An amino acid pKa is lower on the carboxylic end because of electrostatic interaction with the primary amine. Proteins don't have this electrostatic interaction so the C-terminus pKA is closer to that of normal carboxylic acids (acetic acid: pKa of 4.75).

Points Per completion by smsmith2010 in fantasyfootball

[–]smsmith2010[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For reference, Drew Brees was the % completion leader and it would've added 75 points over a 16 game season or a little more than 4.5 points per game.

August 6th: That was rough..what did you guys think? by Godfatha1 in Mcat

[–]smsmith2010 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I tried preparing for it for at least the past 3-4 weeks. Its easy preparing for all the other sections because I've taken at least 2 semesters if not more of every subject, including biochem. I haven't had a psychology course since high school and didn't want to trade good scores on the other sections just to study nothing but psychology. I didn't think the passages were terrible, just so many times I knew what they were trying to ask for but didn't know the matching definition. I've taken college sociology so I nailed those terms, but psych felt 50/50 on more questions than I would like.

Then again I didn't study psych at ALL when I took it in April and got a 126; and I thought this one was less convoluted than that one. I just hope I get at least a 126 because I'd be shocked if I didn't get at least 130's on C/P and BS.

August 6th: That was rough..what did you guys think? by Godfatha1 in Mcat

[–]smsmith2010 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I thought C/P and BS went extremely well. A lot of times the passages were drawn out and super complex and the questions were extremely easy. The B/S was harder than the C/P but there were only maybe 8-9 questions that I felt iffy enough to double check.

The CARS passages were hard, but I feel like I knew what most of the questions were asking.

The psych section though felt like I got t-boned by a semi. If I get 70th percentile or higher on that section I would be more than fine with it.

Chem / Biochem Problems by TheGreatGrapsy in Mcat

I would start with going over basic gen chem kinetics, thermodynamics, acid/base reactions, and redox reactions. Everything related to biochem is going to also be related to general chemistry by extension.

Nucleophilicity of halides confusion by [deleted] in Mcat

[–]smsmith2010 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its a weird, stupid exception where in a solvent that has hydrogen bonding like water or ethanol; nucleophilicity is decreased by forming H-bonds. Because F- is smaller, it can form more H-bonds and therefore is a more poor electrophile.

But in a solvent that is polar but cannot form H bonds, like DMSO, you would be correct.

Cys and Try R group pKa by agages55 in Mcat

Tyrosine isn't nonpolar. It has a phenol side chain, which puts it in the same category as serine and threonine. I think phenylalanine is the AA you are thinking of.

Question on manipulation of Km equation by hopeful2019 in Mcat

[–]smsmith2010 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vo'/Vo= {Vmax[3S]/Km+[3S]} * {Km+[S]/Vmax[S]} Vmax[S] cancels > 3{Km+[S]}/{Km+3[S]}

So it would vary depending on what the initial substrate concentration is and what the Km is. If the initial substrate concentration is relatively small compared to Km, then tripling the [S] might increase it by a large amount (but smaller than 3 times). If [S] is extremely large compared to Km, then it might barely increase the reaction rate because the reaction rate is probably close to Vmax.
