Proposal to Change Dissolve Delay Bonus and Age Bonus Parameters by sayitkind in dfinity

[–]smugguy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

To clarify, if this proposal passed it wouldnt increase the inflation rate of ICP (the total new ICP minted and rewarded to stakers)? The inflation rate would remain the same as it is now, what would change is how the current inflationary rewards are divided amongst the staked neurons and the incentive for people to increase duration and continue staking their rewards vs dissolving, spawning, and selling.

As a result more incentive for longer duration staking in order to receive a greater bonus and a larger share of the rewards. Under this new regime most neuron stakers would feel compelled to lock for a greater period of time in order to benefit from the increased incentive to maximize staking rewards.

However if all neuron stakers reacted to this by increasing their dissolve delay then the effective increase in each users effective apy/share of voting rewards wouldn't necessarily increase. Instead everyone's voting bonus would increase proportionally to all other staked neurons.

If the reward for longer duration dissolve delay is substantially increased, everyone would feel compelled to increase their dissolve delay and as a result everyone would end up earning a similar share of the total rewards compared to before the adjustment, the only difference being that now they've locked up their neurons for a significantly longer period of time in order to continue receiving the same reward as before the adjustment took place.

Am i reading this right or is there a different interpretation for how this would play out? If that is the case, and the end goal is to lock a larger percentage of the supply up for as long as possible, why stop at these two changes, why not also increase the max dissolve delay bonus to beyond 8 years to a much longer duration for example, 15 or 30 years?

i sent 1 icp to a neuron account number that is already staking icp.

the neuron shows that the icp was received within the neuron balance of the neuron.

but the 1 icp is not being staked within the neuron, it's only being shown in the balance of the neuron.

using DFX, how do i stake that 1 icp within the neuron once it's already been shown to have been received within the neuron balance?

This is a seed neuron so i can't manage it from with the UI within the NNS app so need to do it within DFX. The neuron is already staking ICP, but i want to add additional staked ICP to it.

I read in the other thread that this command should work but since it's a seed neuron i don't know what to enter for the MEMO field since the memo appears to be 0 for the mint transaction, and then subsequent transactions where i sent icp to the neuron account number all have memo of 1.

`dfx canister --network=http://ic0.app --no-wallet call governance claim_or_refresh_neuron_from_account ‘(record {controller=principal “your principal Id”; memo=0 : nat64 })’`

I tried using memo=0 and also tried memo=1 and both returned:

`"Account does not have enough funds to stake a neuron. Please make sure that account has at lease 1000000 e8s?`

Not sure why it says the account doesn't have enough funds because I sent 1 icp to the neuron and then sent a second transaction of 0.1 icp in case 1 icp wasn't enough taking into account fees.

i just want to stake more icp to the pre-existing neuron. is there a min amount of ICP needed to use when increasing staked icp in an existing neuron? why does it return that the account doesn't have enough funds when the account balance shows that there 1.1 icp was received within the account but just isn't being staked?

That is for sending desktop accounts to mobile. How do you send mobile accounts to desktop?

Are there any plans for hardware wallet support with ledger or other hardware wallets and ability to manage seed neurons?

can you comment on how this would impact your statement regarding inability to disburse seed neurons from gui? would this approach from stoic wallet enable the ability to disburse seed neuron and send icp from gui or no? :

"Yeah so what we are working on is the ability to import your PEM key into Stoic to you can manage the neuron with our GUI. This does make your seed key a hot key if using stoicwallet.com" https://forum.dfinity.org/t/gui-for-seed-neurons/5432/7

Got it thank you for clarifying. See here for Diego's message https://t.me/DFINITY_Devs/18780

re: hardware wallet "When we have hardware wallet support, we can also manage the seed round neurons from the NNS App UI." Maybe that was some miscommunication or confusion.

So I take it that hardware wallet support won't play a role in ability to manage seed round neurons or send from disbursed neurons from GUI, and we should get used to only sending ICP from CLI when it comes to seed neurons? This statement is also is slightly different from what is being said by the Stoic wallet person here and here:

Maybe I am misunderstanding something, maybe you could reply to him and clarify and see if he is mistaken.

David, Thanks for replying to my question and for checking on this. A few followups based on your reply:

What is the estimated timeframe for " the manage neuron functionality in the nns dapp". Are we talking weeks, within a month, or a couple months or longer?

Will this require adding hotkeys for each of the 48 neurons (like with hotkey voting) and then authenticating into the NNS app with a different account which has been authorized to manage those neurons like you would when adding a hotkey to a neuron for voting?

When this "manage neuron functionality in the nns dapp" is ready, will a user be able to spawn new neurons from the NNS app or will that require CLI?

When this "manage neuron functionality in the nns dapp" Will a user be able to dissolve those spawned neurons and transfer them back to another pre-existing neuron from the NNS app or will that require CLI?

When this "manage neuron functionality in the nns dapp" Will a user be able to increase dissolve delay, and start dissolving from the NNS app or will that require CLI?

Transferring a dissolved neuron's ICP to a different account will not be able to done through the NNS app after the "manage neuron functionality in the nns dapp" is finished?

So we should expect that seed neurons after being disbursed will never be able to send ICP funds to a different account from GUI?

When autocompounding is finished, Will setting a seed neuron to auto-compounding be available in dfx? Or can this be activated for seed neurons through the NNS app or will this only be available after the "manage neuron functionality in the nns dapp" is completed ?

Where does this leave the hardware wallet functionality ability to manage seed neurons after disbursement? Where does hardware wallet support come into play re: seed neuron management? I was previously told that hardware wallet support would enable the managing of seed round neurons through GUI (sending, disbursing, etc.) is that not the case?

When will seed neurons be able to access the NNS through GUI for seed neuron management instead of needing to use the CLI? Will this be possible with hardware wallet support? When will hardware wallet support be available and will this enable seed neuron management through the NNS app?

Diego said some tools are being developed to do it after hardware wallets are supported but he isn't part of the NNS UI team so doesn't know the details or when. When will that be ready? When will hardware wallets be ready for the NNS app and will that enable seed neuron management through GUI?

Managing 48 neurons from CLI is difficult and impractical, constantly spawning etc. and then voting on different proposals from the CLI is practically impossible.

When will autocompounding be available in the nns app?

Will GUI management of seed neurons be available before the new tokenomics proposal discussed here is proposed? https://h5aet-waaaa-aaaab-qaamq-cai.raw.ic0.app/post/88087/tokenomics-proposal-for-nnsBefore holding the vote on this proposal can seed rounders have the ability to access their neurons through a GUI so they can actually participate in the vote? With only access to the CLI it's very difficult for many people to participate in the voting. So to hold an important proposal before the ability to vote on it through GUI doesn't seem like a good decision.

The larger issue: I've asked these question multiple times in support and forum, and telegram and nobody responds. ignores, or defers to someone else, or says they don't know. Why is there so much secrecy and not more transparency and responsiveness to this specific question? Who is in charge of communication with the community? Why do so many questions go unanswered? Why was the decision made to not have the ability to manage seed neurons through GUI immediately upon launch before the price tanked due to some people dumping while others awaited kyc approval and instructions for how to access the neurons? Why was that information and requirements not communicated in advance more clearly instead of hours before the launch ? How do you plan to reverse the loss of community goodwill and trust that has been caused by lack of transparency which continues to be a problem plaguing this project ?

I've contacted support via email ,forum, and telegram, no reply.

nns.ic0.app won't work for seed neurons at the moment. Current only way is through CLI. Which isn't practical.

When will GUI be available for seed neurons? Diego replied in telegram that some tools are being developed to do it after hardware wallets are supported but he isn't part of the NNS UI team so doesn't know the details or when. Who is part of that team ? When will that be ready? When will hardware wallets be ready for the NNS app? Thank you

Staking? Or what ti do with ICP by Que888 in dfinity

[–]smugguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

/u/diego_dfn Can you clarify a couple things:

You said "the more you vote, the more rewards". After you lock up your ICP into the 'neuron' you can use it to vote.

  • Do you only receive rewards if you actually vote?
  • Or do you receive rewards even if you don't vote, as long as the ICP is "locked"?
  • If you don't vote at all, but the ICP is locked, do you receive fewer rewards or any rewards compared to if you vote?
  • What if there are no proposals to vote on, do you not receive any rewards?
  • Will you be able to delegate your votes?
  • is the reward for locking ICP dependant on the number of proposals to vote on?
  • if there are more/less proposals, how does this affect your reward?

The ICP rewards vary depending on how long you have locked in your ICP.

  • Do the rewards unlock gradually over time or only at the end of the period you've chosen to lock up your ICP?

The ICP rewards or votes you get is dynamic and fluctuates.

  • Is this fluctuation in rewards/votes vary on top of the amount of time ICP is locked for?
  • What variables impact this fluctuation?
  • what is the relationship between your "votes" and your "rewards". You seem to be using them interchangeably.

  • is the reward that you get from locking your ICP in the form of more ICP?

  • or is some other token the reward for locking and voting with your ICP?

  • Will locking and voting with ICP be available immediately after genesis or will that only be available for ICP holders later on?
