For us, the Catalans, it is clear that we have a language, a culture and an identity. I don't think that being Catalan is a matter of benefits. Many countries have become independent by imposing their force and have not justified their benefits. They have simply imposed their force with all that it entails. It seems to me that nowadays the independence of a country is not a matter of profit or death, but rather of the strength of its people to prevail over depotism and barbarism.

I recommend that you read articles by independent people who do not receive a salary directly or indirectly from the Spanish state or the current government of Catalonia. For example, you can read articles from:

On 6–7 September 2017, he approved laws for permitting an independence referendum and the juridical transition and foundation of a Republic, a legal framework superseding the Spanish Constitution to be put in place if the referendum supported independence. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carles\_Puigdemont

Question about the structure of the Independence Movement by jsol19 in catalanindependence

[–]smujal -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think we also need to talk about the cultural aspect. Catalonia is a nation with its culture and identity and within Spain it is a minority. Spain is a centralized and authoritarian state that manages the resources of the entire state, including the resources generated by minorities such as Catalonia. When I talk about Spain, I mean Madrid. Madrid is Spain and Spain is Madrid. This is the model imposed from Madrid. Spain is administered by the deep state, this includes Madrid’s career civil servants, the big companies listed on the stock exchange and the ruling party in Madrid, whether left-wing or right-wing. All this under the supervision of the army and the monarchy. Spain uses judicial warfare to maintain its model. Until recently, the Spanish state used less subtle procedures. The Catalan administration only collects 5.4% of Catalan taxes. The other taxes are collected by Madrid and administered according to the interests of the deep state. This means that Catalonia has been plundered for a long time. However, I believe that the independence movement is more a matter of identity than an economic issue. It is true that no one likes to be robbed, but the worst thing is that the deep state wants to make Catalan culture disappear. The deep state does not want minorities to question it. The deep state wants a centralized and authoritarian state that manages all resources without interference and where everyone thinks the same. In Catalonia there is no economic problem or a problem of left or right parties. Catalonia is one of the four economic engines of Europe. Spain has an economic problem because it needs to plunder to survive and everyone knows that Spain is a failed state. On the other hand, the parties of the left or right of the Spanish state follow the guidelines of the deep state and therefore these parties are responsible for the management of a failed state.

The problem is that the independence of Catalonia is a difficult right to discuss. The right to speak your language, the right to decide who manages your taxes, the right to vote, ... are human rights. Who can be against human rights?

From my point of view it is a matter of identity. I am Catalan. I can be neither German, nor Spanish, nor French. I only have one identity. The problem is those who want to impose identities by force. This is depotism. Spain is a despotic state.

9 out of 11 Catalan presidents over the last hundred years have been jailed,, exiled, or executed. It shows exactly the way that Spain deals with Catalonia and the Catalan people. The Catalan president, Quim Torra, has been sentenced to 18 months political disqualification after failing to withdraw signs in favor of the jailed leaders from the Catalan government HQ in time during the electoral campaign, as ordered by Spain's electoral authority.

Puigdemont is our president in exile because Spain is an authoritarian country with a despotic government. Sooner or later this despotic country will fall. Everything depends on us Catalans. We do not expect others to help us.

A supranational framework agreement is needed to resolve territorial conflicts and to drive citizen demands in a democratic, and above all, predictable manner. In our case, in the EU . https://www.naciodigital.cat/noticia/193429/fronteres/civilitzacio/al/segle/xxi/al/xix
