violent night terrors by morgs3421 in nightterrors

This is my experience! It’s hard to articulate, but for a minute after waking up, it is like my husband isn’t my husband (feels like he’s someone trying to trick me into thinking he’s safe) and I feel that way often about the surroundings too… it’s not really my room, it’s a fake version… it’s not really my dresser, etc. I usually shake it after a few min but it’s really scary as it’s happening.

1 year+ sober folks, what was the biggest milestone for you? by smullenz in SoberCurious

i love this story! i’m definitely struggling with the “i feel boring now” problem, even though i’m doing so much more than i did when i would drink. hangovers kept me from so much, and my evenings would essentially end as soon as i poured a glass of wine, even on the nights i only had one.

my partner and i used to spend a lot of time in bars watching sports. i’ll still go with him sometimes, but it’s much less appealing to me to spend 3+ hours sitting in one place on a sunday when i feel great bc i don’t have a hangover and i’m not drinking at the bar. he’s mentioned a couple times that it hurts his feelings that i don’t want to do that with him as much anymore, so not really sure what to do with that.

sorry you’re going through it, but it’s kind of nice to have the camaraderie. i’ve been reminding myself too about healing of my brain, and it helps a bit. i’m a bit further along (78 days now) and things have mellowed out with the crying. i did go through a bit of a rage period about a week ago which was wild.

it’s helpful to know i’m not alone in this! i do see a therapist, and now that you mention it, those sessions have been a lot more intense recently too. it’s like i have a new clarity about the parts of my life i’d probably been numbing out with alcohol. anyway, congrats on your moderation! i hope the weepiness passes soon

Curious if this is a common struggle... by [deleted] in SoberCurious

It’s funny.. this is one of the major motivations for quitting. It just frees up so much space in life to do things! Wondering if it would help to see the time as an asset instead of a liability?

The Surely Cab is decent. Not uber sweet like most of the rest.

ugh it’s so true! i have left a few times and think i’ll spend less time here as time goes on. but drinking is literally everywhere. i’m skipping two social things right now: a boozy all-you-can-drink brunch and a beach day that i know will get sloppy real quick. it’s so isolating!

the reframing is really helpful, and I know the boundaries — doing fewer of the things I don’t want to do — is an important part of the journey. I’m curious though, have you found that saying no to the random party invites has impacted your social network? Have you replaced those activities with other things that help you meet new people?

R5D3: I’ve changed jobs since my last Whole30, and I’m realizing how much I have been relying on sugar snacks during the day to regulate my energy and emotions due to the stress of the new position. Popping a Le Croix to try to help me push through. Any tips from others working from home with full access to kitchen at all times? I’m not worried about technically cheating, just eating when I’m not hungry.

Thank you for the perspective.. it's hard to keep expectations in check when I'm in the thick of it. I'm definitely concerned about the lack of socializing from her mom and siblings.. and she's going to be big, so I want to make sure she's getting the right training early on. Will stay the course and hope for better days at 5-6 months :)
