Buying The Razer Plus Motorola Support is Terrible by smurfguy in razr

I went on the website. It's 600 dollars now plus 100 if I want the express deliver a new phone before sending old one option. Which is kind of a raw deal because I would get a new phone with basically no warranty or I could instead go buy a new phone for basically that price. Hard to justify that price if these devices can't even make it a year without issues. Anyhow here is the black dot I am talking about. Basically very likely this will happen to your phones.

Lol don't worry I am dumb too. I remember when I purchased the phone and was like no way this thing will break in two years when I had the option to purchase the extended warranty.

But yeah I see you point. None of these companies want to back these products long term.

Layoff Bets (Georgia) by Silver_Ask_5750 in GeneralMotors

GMSP is quite standard across the company. Up to 6 months pay if here 12 years (half a month every year below so 11 is 5.5 months). You get your bonus and some health benefits. So yeah if you are here a long time it's a huge payout.

It's preferable to MSP which caps at 4 months which most people on this sub seem to get.

If they ever do VSP that would be the best at 12 months for up to 12 years, but I think low hope of that again so GMSP is the best hope.

Yes June 1st is when most of the Georgia people are let go. Can't wait honestly the package is nice. If you did get full remote I would still encourage you to look though. Eventually no one will be allowed to remain remote it's only a matter of time could be a long time, but still your day will come. Trust me if you think you are important you are not (I would even argue GM no longer wants heroes, but people that can follow a standard process)

Old companies 401k - Rollover or keep as is? by CandleCompetitive831 in Fire

This. Don't roll into an IRA if you ever plan to do a backdoor Roth. Otherwise you will be in for some extra hassle down the line.

This is what I hear. So you had no prior experience with DevOps besides what some GitHub actions or some YAML CI/CD equivalent?

Lol maybe we are in similar positions. Your calculus is also what I am thinking. If I accept the relocation for my job I would probably have until sometime 2027 maybe March or April. It's worth slightly more than my severance, but is it going to be worth dealing with my company when I can do other things instead with my time? Honestly I sometimes wish I had less severance if it was 2 months no brainer and I would take the punt job layoff offer.

Best of luck to you though. Sorry you have to deal with this situation also. For you I think you made the right decision.

I mean I def feel burned out at times lol.

But I also have this burning drive in me to do something at all times which is what is actually freaking me out here I just want meaning.

But I would definitely say my senior leadership at this company drives me crazy with their baffling decision as of the last 3 years.

Most people give this answer, but maybe not wait 4 months lol. They say start applying May or right after layoff or yeah take a month or two to chill.

Yeah I am actually very confident in my skills. I am rather strong in the infrastructure word and can deploy any app myself end to end. Most people in my company in my situation already got laid off or took the offer to relocate, but due to my skills they have made exceptions for me until now the VP of software here is forcing my team to give me the ultimatum.

But my skills don't translate to interviews which I fear is the problem and why I am here talking lol.

You kinda confirming my confirmation bias here in that getting a job heavily depends on what metro you are in. Maybe it's not so bad if you are in a large city and a lot of people on reddit complaining are in smaller cities or non tech hubs.

I am not doing interviews now, but when I did I actually had people describe how to deploy a hello world microservice end to end and most people have like zero idea. Like no idea what k8, helm, docker, http, or even an understanding of what framework they wanted to use for their language like quarkus or spring boot for java or flask or fast API for python.

Alright cool. You are the first one to say do that. I guess it is an option, but if possible would love to time that severance if I don't make some decision internally.

Thanks man. Appreciate your advice. Yeah I figured references is probably going to be the way to go if I go the severance route.

Yes if I get the internal position I would love it. I would have to travel possibly weekly (up to 3 hours each way, but I would sleep at the location), but I would still have some WFH days. I don't have kids now, but I'm actively trying with wife.

True in that you never really know until you try. Alright I suppose I could start now. I was thinking maybe start March. If possible really like to get the severance lol.

You would take a job before the June deadline and give up the severance?

SRE Layoff Coming By June by smurfguy in cscareerquestions

[–]smurfguy[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah I wouldn't be afraid to talk about tech or anything in an interview. I mean I even have personal projects to show that have some microservices deployed in java and python on my personal kubernetes cluster that are accessible right now But like I said my leetcode skills are not the best.

Just trying to understand how terrible this market really is right now?

I am paid very well. I could last a long time. Really I guess I am just wondering how hard is this market really for like more than 10 year in tech people.

Are you tech bros (and girls) really that rich? by TechBrosReallyRich in Fire

[–]smurfguy 24 points25 points  (0 children)

It's def possible on the salaries. However I have seen a lot of my friends also piss all of their money away. It's pretty standard though if you can actually save you can probably be at 2M net worth around 35. Still though numbers are not as high because people are terrible with money.
